This would be a poor buy without knowing about the battery life. The batteries are not user replaceable and no UK repairer will replace. This is a 4 year old model and batteries may well be at the end of their useful life.

Found this in their Warranty blurb:
"Batteries are not covered by our warranty; we neither promise battery life nor guarantee it. We only confirm that any battery is working when dispatched but as a consumable item we do not guarantee or warranty remaining usable life of any battery supplied."
You really should put refurbished in the title.
Surface Pro's are horrendous to repair >

  • The display assembly consists of a fused glass panel and LCD, and is extremely difficult to remove and replace.
  • Tons of adhesive hold everything in place, including the display and battery.
  • The delicate and arduous opening procedure leaves no room for mistakes: one slip-up, and you'll be out a screen
Source: ifixit.com/tab…ity

Also the micro USB port can break, to fix that you'll likely break the screen, to change the battery you'll likely break the screen.

As above, these are quite old now and I'd be concerned about the battery state.

They are a well known seller, they have lots of great deals that get posted on here. They are a Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher according to their website.

Ouch!
I suppose it's still the luck of the draw though? The fact that they're apparently in good condition might indicate they've been looked after / used responsibly? I've got the lower spec version of these, and the battery is still fine.....not exactly stellar, but decent enough with 4-5 hours to offer.

I bought one of these the other day. There was an issue with SP3 batteries but claimed to be fixed with a software update a while back. I’ve had a few of these and not experienced the issue before so hopefully it’s not widespread. Microsoft do make it damn near impossible to service this though but at this price you can overlook it. Mine even came with the proper corded dock unit (when bought from ITZoo)!

He should have, but a Surface Pro 3 would have to be used given it’s age really. Still a great purchase.

Also, to anyone who does buy this, there’s a guy on eBay selling lightly-used UAG cases for £17.78, a bargain and great protection for this.

I literally just took my 2016 MacBook Pro in for servicing with Apple today as that useless butterfly keyboard jammed... they are different market segments though, the Surface is a good lineup if you get a decent device - I had 4 Surfaces that had various issues (uneven backlighting and/or arrived bent) and I’m still using a Surface Pro 3 today.

I have a Macbook 2015 and wouldn't probably replace it if it wasnt for the battery, how's the battery on the surface?

SP3 isn’t the best but you can get 5-6 hours depending on what you do. I’d expect 3-4 hours but always keep the charger nearby as I had standby drain issues before - I turned off Connected Standby helped. The later Surfaces (Skylake onwards) had much better battery but worse QC from what I saw.

The problem is physical condition is no indicator of battery life. LiPo/LiIon batteries universally tend to have a maximum lifespan of around 1000 full cycles. Many other factors impact this on top, such as operating temperature, charging current, current draw, trickle charging to 100% continuously etc etc. You may find one with a decent battery, on the other hand it might be a complete dud and the fact that the reseller does not guarantee any minimal battery life is a bit telling to me.
i7 option is sold out now.

Hey i picked up one, just wondering did it come with the keyboard as in the picture? also was the pen included?

I understand why they don’t to be honest. Mine seems ok, but I’ve sold iPhones in the past with good battery and had people complain that it doesn’t last 10 hours screen-on like Apple states it should and because it’s eBay I have to accept it back anyway, so why warrant something that does deteriorate over time. People who are overly fussy about battery should just buy a brand new one as that’s the only way to bypass the issue. For a £1000 tablet at a quarter of the price, I would probably live with a slightly shorter battery.

Mine came with the keyboard and the dock charger (usually £100 on its own). I didn’t see the pen but I had a spare and admittedly didn’t check the box fully either.

Wise words. I was tempted with the i7, but know that a dodgy battery would drive me bananas....so I've resisted the temptation!

There isn’t a micro USB port on the SP3, that sounds like the Surface 3 and yes while it’s convenient to charge over that, it’s too flimsy for a large tablet - USB C would be better. The Pro is just as hard to get into - I saw a video of a guy who wanted to upgrade the SSD in it and he ended up Dremelling his way into the casing.

I also have an HP Elite X2 1012 and that thing is like a Surface Pro but fully accessible, it deserved to do so much better as it’s just as good a tablet really - unfortunately it was aimed at enterprise-only and HP charged insane money for it.

Yes you're correct the cheaper Surface 3 has a Micro USB socket.

I agree though. Microsoft assembled it in a very repair-unfriendly manner - all of them, Pro and non-Pro. Which is odd as HP and Dell made competing tablets that were infinitely easier to access and repair but they just didn’t sell as well.

WOW £300+ for very old in laptop terms

Conveniently missing out how it cost about £1000 new for this spec and how processor IPC barely hasn’t changed since 2011’s Sandy Bridge. Though I am curious what kind of power user you are that you need a Coffee Lake CPU for tasks you can’t do perfectly well with this Haswell one?

Any part (except battery) would've failed already. The majority of these have a lot of life left in them. But yes, battery - I had one at work and after 3 years battery was lasting 3.5 hrs - originally I got 6.5 - 7 hrs. On the plus side: the battery seemed pretty stable, it wasn't getting worse than 3.5 hours

Only reason I picked up one was my SP2 got water damaged and died a death in December. Always held itself up really well, reliable productive laptop/tablet. Good build quality for the price. But yeah, not easy to repair.
This is cheaper than it is to fix the screen on our one
