Considering this is only a little more than a netbook and is a proper PC with a powerful processor. I think that this is an excellent deal. 3 month warranty but extra £25 to extend it to a year

These Gemstone models are monsters in size and weight compared to other laptops.

old model old design but reflected in the price so fair enough.

I bought both my daughters Acer Laptops...I should have listened to reviews on Acer. The mouse pad is all over the place on one of them and you need a wireless mouse to now operate the laptop, this laptop just out of warranty as well. The Blu Ray player will stop, stall and play like a learner driver on their first lesson of using a gear box! So you cannot watch a blu ray disc. Apparently this is a common problem, Google it....The dreaded black screen is a real pain, good job you can open the battery compartment for a restart. Oh and the battery lasts about 6 months and dies a real death. The mains power in connector has been repaired by Acer and has now malfunctioned again in less than 9 months of being officially repaired! And Acer disputed an extended 2 year warranty even though I provided bank statements and an Acer Warranty Receipt Invoice..If it had been just one laptop with these problems I probably wouldnt have minded so much, but I have two in the household. ACER is ia real nightmare !!! ...AVOID, AVOID,AVOID,AVOID,AVOID!

never ever ever buy acer more hassle than its worth - same goes for toshiba!!!

Had Acer for years never ever had a problem except with a BIOS flash once, returned and repaired and returned to me in 7 days, other than that no probs Acer I find are great but never bought a low end model so maybe that has something to do with it.

not a bad deal only draw back is that it is ACER , a bit like marmite, xmas is approaching so old EB has decided to come out and look for deals, i shall be on the look out for some hot deals to post.

Wowhats

That sounds like real bad luck, but to be honest that can happen with any maker. Customer service for consumer products are all awful, just business services are better but they are much more expensive. If you want good service for your computer equipment, get Dell, Leneovo or HP business onsite services

Personally I wouldn't buy any laptop with a 3 month guarantee so you'd want to factor in the £25 to upgrade to a 1 year warranty...

Personally, I do not think is reasonable to buy old subnotebook whilst dual core netbooks are available. 12 inches does not make the laptop portable yet. In order to make the computer portable, you need a long lasting battery and lightweight build - non of them is present in this model. So what's the point in working on a smallish laptop, connected to mains, at home ? Acer + 3 months warranty are not a perfect selling points too...

A Core 2 Duo in this is quite a bit faster than a dual core atom,
you also gain a DVDRW drive.

That's right but it still does not make the acer more portable
