My first post. :-)

Screen 8.1" 1280x800.
2GB RAM
32GB SSD
Office home and student included
Mini usb, mini hdmi, memcard reader, front+rear camera.

Price is £109.97 + £4.97 for postage.

It is refurb, A1 "like new" condition. I do not have experience with this seller, but seems like a very decent deal.

Only negative reviews I found were about the cheap screen (low viewing angles).

Unless I'm mistaken this is the first Windows 8" tablet that came to market which Microsoft gave out to paid attendies of a tech show.

It's cheap build quality and the screen is abysmal - far more wrong with it than just viewing angles.

I'd stay clear. Choose one of the modern alternatives from £180.

Have changed topic to computers as no 3G.

Not sure but value for ms office so ..
Do younagree

Grade A1 means its been used in the showroom as a display model. Been on all day long, coughed and sneezed on. No thanks.

Hot at this price, but I still wouldn't buy one to use myself.

But they wouldn't sell as many if they put that in the description, like new sounds much better.

You can wipe them

You can wipe them

He also stated been on all day long, not good for the battery, a bit different to a customer return who just turned it on once and did not like it so the battery would be basically new.

That is of course assuming these are ex display.

Grade A1 means box open.. ex display means ex display. I would know, I work there

Tablets are not put on display in the showroom unless its in a locked glass cabinet.

LaptopsDirect define A1 as being "As New", not ex-display. I purchased an A1 Chromebook from them which had quite clearly seen no use at all. I have also seen similar reports from other members.

Unless you work for LaptopsDirect and can substantiate your assertion, I think it is malicious trolling.

dumb question ..but can this find 5ghz wifi ?

It is wifi I use at work and this would be pretty good on site

The Dell Venue 8 at £140 recently at the dell outlet is much better value than this. This one has the last gen Atom, which is half as fast as the current ones. Is still quite a lot for £115, but not value compared to available alternatives.

This. For the love of God stay away from this tablet. I thought people were exaggerating about the crap screen until I saw one in PC world.

Would be tempted by Dell Venue 8 at £140

Hmm I ordered the dell venue from the outlet but now wondering if would have been better saving £30 and going for this. Seriously decent pricing for an x86 tablet

EDIT: Dell cancelled and got this instead. Only after a cheap toy to mess about with. Will report back on arrival

Office software alone is worth £95, so use the licence on your desktop and use the tablet as a cheap music player or web surfer via WiFi or whatever. Hot from me.

I made the mistake of buying another acer from tesco. B1 I think. Slow and acer are as bad as samsung for after sales. rubbish. still stuck with the old android it came with. Don't bother with acer or samsung if your a techie.

Bought one of these on eBay recently for about the same money. It has been a great entry into windows 8.1 tablets but the screen is rubbish when out it direct sunlight. But in normal English weather or indoors the screen is fine and the system is quite responsive. I have my profile from my desktop loaded on it and it doubles up as my desktop when I don't want to sit at my computer desk. And the battery seems to last pretty much all day under constant use. And is much more useful than an iPad or any android device

ah my bad, its a windows one. Well good price but low spec screen. My comments on after sales stand though.

Compared with say Samsung Tab? looking at what it has for the price I know which I would prefer.

When folk say 'get the one at £180' do they realise that is 50% more? Like saying don't get a Range Rover Evoque at £40k, get a Range Rover Sport at £60k instead it's better. No Sh*t Batman.

The battery is great, lasts longer than one can find in Samsung or other tablets. Poor screen quality though. I paid £200+ when it was out over a year ago. I needed something that paralleled my desktop and mobile, it is doing the job!

have used laptops direct recently - had nothing but trouble trying to get them to take back a faulty piece of kit.. and a relatively expensive one too. Would not touch them again.

Grrr Windows 8. Nagged me to do Windows update. Restart to apply updates. "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer".

Do a hard reset and you get that same screen. Hold F11 and do a system refresh and get that screen, do a *system restore* and you get that screen. Contact Microsoft on live chat and they tell you to insert your Windows 8 disc.

The tablet hardware itself is excellent value, but it comes with a bad OS. With an iPad, I can always connect it to iTunes and do a restore. What the hell am I supposed to do with this now?

Fresh install windows 8.1 would be what I'm planning on doing first! Relies on having a build USB stick/ DVD drive and the OTG adaptor though

Doesnt seem to allow usb or dvdrw boot. Looks like mine will have to go back.

Can you connect to another machine via wifi? Maybe a shared CD/DVD drive

I seemed to have fixed it by booting into the recovery partition, deleting Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml , then doing a system restore. JFC what a waste of an afternoon.

Got mine today but quite disappointed with it. I wasn't expecting the screen to be good but it's utterly abysmal. Grainy and unpleasant to look it with viewing angles so poor it's awkward to use even straight in front of you. I didn't seem to get Office with it either, looks like someone has nabbed the licence.

Definitely get what you pay for with this one, should have stuck with the Dell Venue!

Edit: had the same windows update problem as drspa44 whilst playing with it today. Won't turn back on now!
