Thought this is a bonkers deal for a still very capable Chromebook.

The Acer Chromebook 14 features a great 1080p IPS display, quad-core processor, long battery life and metal construction. Compared to what else you can get at this price it's a no-brainer for anyone who isn't reliant on Windows-specific software.

The battery easily lasts me a full day at college and it's updated with Android and Linux apps.

Also still available in silver for £149,97

Nope it's got Android Apps and now also supports Linux apps
Cheers. Went for an A1 Gold because:

Hopefully it'll be a better experience than the refurb I picked up from Argos EBay last week. DOA and Argos about as helpful as t*ts on a fly.
This is a lovely Chromebook. It feels like a much more expensive model with a full metal chassis. I think the base 2GB/16GB and HD panel model usually costs £200 new. If you can work with a Chromebook (I can’t unfortunately due to things like the odd label printer driver we need for Royal Mail among others) then this is an absolute steal and despite the middling specs (for a PC anyway) it literally flies in general use.

Exactly as you say OP. I might even buy one because why not.

EDIT: for anyone interested you can get an A2 grade (minimal marks) for £99.99 which I think is an even better deal - for a machine that will pick up the odd mark anyway I don't mind a bit. A3 grade (average) is even less at £94.99 but probably worth paying £5 more and also suggests display is HD only. Anyone interested in the A2:

Is there any problem with 32Gb and system updates? My mum has a 32Gb Windows machine and it's a pita.
Thanks for posting great for the kids homework
I'm very interested in Chromebooks but would like one that doubles as a tablet.
What would be a good choice - taking price, performance and support into consideration?

Not at all. Its a chromebook.
Are these actual refurbs or open box/ slightly damaged ones?

They're virtually the same thing. Probably open box and customer returns that Laptops Direct have checked over and revalidated themselves. Acceptable use of the term refurbished - despite some people thinking refurb must mean refurbished to brand new condition.
According to Google this model will continues to receive ChromeOS updates until June 2021. The R13 posted above is slightly longer at September 2021.

Thanks mate. I was looking at these in Currys not long back and was waiting for them to come down in price as they are very impressive bit of kit. I've ordered one

Depends how skinny your jeans are....
Cracking price, guaranteed updates for another 2 years as well.
How does this compare with the 13" M8173 (that I bought yesterday)? laptopsdirect.co.uk/ref…asp

Presumably this isn't touch screen, and the size and storage differences are obvious- but what about general performance? How do the two processors stack up?

Thank you.
Ive been using a chromebook for years. Rarely use windows now. Only when i have issues with cloud printing.

Ordered a couple of the £99 ones :-)

Just stick a decal on. You'll only be doing what Starbucks do when they serve you "coffee".

Cut the wires off your earphones and pretend you have airpods.
You'll look like a pillock and fit right it.

Rant over.

Yes, me too, sold out not long after. Couldn’t resist at £83 ex VAT! Will be great little things for working outside the office. I can do a lot on a smartphone but nothing beats a large high-res display and keyboard.
Great deal! I've been using one of these for a year now and don't miss my MacBook at all. Battery lasts all day...good keyboard....screen is ok....and it's super fast. Thinking about getting one to use when mine wears out...but it feels like it'll go on forever.
Sold out
These are great devices! Nice metal build and sharp screen. The quad core celery deals with Chrome OS fine.
Cheers OP, nabbed one just before they all went

The only acceptable alternative in a Starbucks will be a Chromebook Pixel.
Anybody received theirs yet? Mine should turn up today and wondering whether to steel myself for another refurb Chromebook disappointment....
Received mine this morning. My first Chromebook and it seems great for the money. No marks or dents as expected with A1 condition - you never know with a refurb though.
Got mine this morning as well, despite ordering yesterday afternoon and choosing the free delivery option.
Looks A1 condition to me. Will be setting it up tonight

Edited: Set up, took minutes to be online and on candy crush
Couldn't be happier

I just use a Surface Pro and sit in Caffe Nero - the one near us is super modern and has power and USB at every table. Starbucks is so 2015
Thanks Chris. Got mine today. A1 - no issues at all. Initial teething probs with Netflix...id suggest installing it once, clearing the data then reinstalling it. Should then work fine. Also didn't come as 1080p on the display, I had to change those settings, easy enough tho. Click on your profile icon in the bottom right corner then find the settings cog. Also there is no Spotify app for the chromebook and the standard download won't work so log into the standard website and save the page - it works perfect and you get a shortcut on your menu. The speakers are brilliant on this thing. All in all can't believe what I have got which is more than half price in the shops.
Mine arrived but it has a chip on the lid right through the paint so you can see bare metal underneath. It can't have been missed so I kinda think the A1 description is inaccurate at best.

It's very nice otherwise but I'm gonna contact Laptops Direct and query the grading.

Mine was the same, called them and got £25 refund, to be fair they were very good when I told them and offered this without any prompting from my side. Was certainly not A1 which as they explained should really be open box rather that lightly used which I would say mine has been. Good luck!

Thanks, appreciate the reply. Good to know they're willing to be pragmatic in these cases.

I'd reached out via their E-message service last night and got a response this morning asking for some pictures. Just waiting on their reply to these.

If they offer the same I'll be happy. Might even plump for the extended warranty if so.

Edit: Yup, offered £25 refund or £35 voucher. Happy with the cash.

Was looking for wraps/covers for this Chromebook to hide the damage (and prevent anything further).

Came across this; amazon.co.uk/mCo…AMZ

A little pricy perhaps but seems like a nice idea. Went for the tasteful orange colour to 'complement' my gold Chromebook.

Can always return if it's rubbish. And go with my usual plan of covering things in stickers.....

Edit: it's rubbish. For the price you'd expect it to fit properly. The bottom half of mine was loose. I certainly wouldn't have felt confident it would stay on.
