These are terrible ports, very jittery and unplayable able in parts, in playing on PS4 Pro and tried with and without boost mode, they could do with a proper update to sort the issues out
sharpedges1213/01/2019 16:54

Do these have trophies? Or are they just PS2 ports?

They are the original PS2 games running through an emulator which renders them at 4x the original resolution - so the gameplay experience is exactly the same as playing the original PS2 versions except that, even though they haven't been remastered, they will look slightly better. And they have had trophy support added so you can now Platinum all three of them.

No, they're the original PS2 versions (see above). None of them are playable on Xbox One but even if they were I don't think they would run better, given the way the PS4's PS2 emulator works - although the Xbox's version of San Andreas was basically the PC version, so had many enhancements over the PS2 version, so it would be nice to be able to play that on modern consoles.

That was not my experience at all - I bought this when it was on sale last Christmas and replayed all three games (a mixture of on the PS4/TV and remote play on the Vita) and didn't have any problems. Of course they feel a bit clunky now because they've aged but I didn't have any technical problems with them.

Also they're not ports - they're the original PS2 versions emulated.

They had to remove tracks as to renew them after a certain time period and/or perhaps porting certain songs to another console or something was blocked. Doesn't make sense for Rockstar to pay further royalties sadlyLot of ppl have complained ABT the controls etc. Maybe better to eBay and buy the PS2 and the discs?

The controls aren't bad because they're on PS4; they're bad because the games are old. If you don't like the way they handle on PS4 you'll feel the same if you go back and play them on a PS2.

A port is when a game or other piece of software written for one system is rewritten for a different system - so, for example, Grand Theft Auto V originally came out on the PS3 and Xbox 360, then it later came out on the PS4, Xbox One and PC, so those were ports (with a lot of technical and graphical enhancements added in the process).

But that's not what these are, because they're the original PS2 running through an emulator on the PS4, so none of the game code has been rewritten and it's not running directly on native hardware because there's the added layer of emulation.

dance_with_the_reaper13/01/2019 19:07

That was GTA IV, just don’t update and your soundtrack will be the same

It has happened to every GTA that has licensed music that was released over 10 year ago - Vice City, San Andreas and IV - so, yes, there are some songs missing from these releases (off the top of my head, there's no Billie Jean in Vice City and no Killing in the Name Of in San Andreas). I think the best way to deal with it is just use Spotify on your PS4 while palying them and find a good playlist for whichever game you're on.
I wouldn’t say they are terrible ports, they’re not amazing but they are playable. I’ve got Vice City myself and it was nice to cruise around for nostalgia and that soundtrack, but I don’t think the games hold up well, the controls have aged terribly and graphically they are quite rough. Still, good for a trip down memory lane and this is a lot of game for under £12

it's cheaper to get the entire Rockstar collection! I got it for about £20 last time it was on sale.
So difficult to control... Tried playing Vice City (my favourite GTA) and to me it was unplayable.

I think it means in the case of a game, bringing it from one console to the other. GTA vice city was ported from the PlayStation to the PS4. Hope this helps

I just responded to what you wrote - "It's cheaper to get the entire Rockstar collection!"

Is there a Rockstar bundle that includes the GTA games and the other ones, or do you mean buying them individually? According to PSPrices the cheapest GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas have been is £4.79 each.
Aren't these the android versions ported back?

Think they'd play nicer on an Xbox One if the originals are part of the backwards compatible list?
They have been this price in every sale I remember. The ports aren't great either as others have said.

Not a bad price but if you're unsure don't jump on it. There's no rush.

These games have aged very badly the core gaming mechanics are garbage. Similar to original resident evils.... Only way to make them appealing is proper remasters
GTA San Andreas is the sole reason I’ll never buy anything of PSN ever again. I bought the digital version on my PS3 then on my PS4 they expected me to rebuy it again despite it being the exact same copy on the exact same store. My xbox and PC has never done that but Sony does so they won’t be having money from me again

Just tried GTA III again, jumps/jitters every few seconds with sounds and skips gameplay, they are the PS2 pimped version’s but I don’t ever remember the PS2 jumping like that, terrible
I bought this for PS3 several years back. What a shame Sony or Rockstar decided to keep these as unique products despite being exactly the same when there are many other games that are cross platform.

I'm tempted as San Andreas in particular has great replay value but I'd rather just dust off my PS3. Always been loyal to Sony but they need to bring in backward compatibility so we don't have to keep legacy systems and pay again for stuff we already own.

I had the same situation and figured it was a little out of the ordinary for MS to pull it from the marketplace on console.

Basically you had the OG Xbox version which was merely ported for the 360. I had this, and it ran fine for many years from release (or re-release rather) until I deleted it because of storage issues and when after it again, couldn’t find it on the store. That’s when Rockstar released the improved version of GTA SA which supposedly looks a little better and has a few tweaks - I couldn’t tell but perhaps side by side or if the tweaks were more obvious I would have. That definitive version isn’t available on any Sony platform unfortunately.

I’m the fool who bought this on PS2 on release, on OG Xbox a year or so later, the aforementioned 360 digital download as soon as it was available, and finally the improved 360 version. And I still never got past the damn mission with the bikes on the train tracks. Only GTA I gave up on...that, and GTA2 but nobody counts that
