For a 14-year stretch running from 1992, Grandaddy cemented their status as cult heroes of the Californian alt-rock scene with their off-kilter, melodic melancholia. Happily, after nearly a decade apart, Jason Lytle and pals decided to revive the project, and are now unveiling their first full-length since 2006’s Just Like The Fambly Cat. As per previous offerings, Last Place finds them marrying the fuzzy chug of guitars with synthesised sounds, all manner of electronic gizmos, and Lytle’s plaintive, Neil Young-alike croon and, as expected, it proves as irresistible a combination as ever. Our current favourite track is ‘A Lost Machine’, a piano-led piece of spaced-out introspection in a similar vein to fan-favourites ‘Lava Kiss’ and ‘He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s The Pilot’.

I have the vinyl record of this and it's a classic Grandaddy album IMHO, well worth £4.99 for the MP3 version
