I agree. Being french I wouldn't go for it but I voted Hot for those who don't mind french quality & realibility.

How do you go about purchasing from this company when they don't have a showroom?

so what exactly is good then? I have a merc and a peugeot.....soon to change the peugeot for a vw/audi/bmw....merc arent that great, colleagues have audis....kit is pathetic and almost all are options
peugeot has been good and cheap only changing it as ive had it 7 years and fancy a change....merc is fine but servicing is a joke (avoid main dealers - unbelievable prices, unlike peugeot), almost no diy at all and poorly designed in places...eg changing spare wheel (steel!!) for the alloy....you use different bolts..wtf!! my peugeot had a full sized alloy spare

I should think so, but it's possible they will supply it though a Fiat dealsership.

Is that a deal breaker?

Anyway call or email them and I'm sure all will become clear. Will you post their response?

I have had a number of fiats for the last 15 years or so (cinqucento, punto, panda) and never had a pick of bother... I would reccommend a fiat to any low mileage user (I only do say 6000 a year)

My partners Fiat 500 is excellent, well built, superb mileage (around 70 mpg), well equipped, full of safety features, superb all round.

Why do people make such sweeping statements, oh sorry, TROLL ALERT!

Here we go again - another car deal - look out for another load of unsupported personal opinions and prejudices.

For what it's worth and based on confidential, syndicated motor industry research of a representative sample of NEW cars, Italian and French makes will, on average, give the most problems. HOWEVER, and this is a big one, they are still way better than the average of cars 20 years ago.

Top of the pile? Toyota (ignore the uninformed recall hype and panic), with Honda close behind. Jaguar is a surprise player in the top group too. BMW and Merc are only mid table with the latter recovering from a pretty dire performance a few years back. Audi/VW pretty average too. Remember, this is about FAULTS, not whether you like the colour of the instruments, the texture of the steering wheel or the way the sales guy stroked your ego when you bought it.

Individual models from the same maker do vary and you may get a poor one from a good make, or a good one from a poor make. It gets more complicated than that too: eg as the Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1 are basically the same car you aren't going to get the Aygo at the top of the table and the French brands at the bottom, though the way their different dealer networks go about preparing and repairing them has some effect.

The above is broadly supported by less accurate but published data (eg the Auto Express annual survey).

OK, those are a brief summary of FACTS. Now lets carry on with the 'my Dad's car is better than your Dad's car' nonsense which wrecks these threads.

Disagree - the JD Power 2009 survery (Most respected of them all) has Mercedes-Benz right at the top of the pile, and rightly so -

Good deal, but dont buy any teens this for their first car! Insurance would be WAY too much. Better of going for the clio in this case, but others, great deal.

Whys that?

This is 76bhp and insurance group 7, Clio 1.2 was 74bhp insurance group 8

If anything this will be the cheaper to insure car.

Also worth pointing out, this price is for the old model Grande Punto, not the recently released facelift Punto Evo....

agreed - cant comment on fiats but french cars are miles better than they were 10 years ago....i bought my 307xsi new as i got it cheaper than a year old one...similar golf with LOWER spec and old model was 70% more! and audi a3 was double with again LOWER spec......finish of these cars at the time was actually worse than my pug.....but vw and audi upped their game in the last 5 years and the finish is alot better BUT you pay alot more for similar models and you still get LOWER spec.....golf gti near £25K wtf for a GOLF come on! and you STILL have to pay for folding mirrors (my pug had these included as standard - thats 7 years ago!), sure you expect a few more issues - ive replaced the ecu after 4 years and 80K miles and thats it
mind you, its always worth looking at year old premium models like mercs - big discounts

Nice one, need more posts like yours :-D

fiats are terrible. better off staying away from them and all french cars.

Now we just await the first person to come and along and proclaim this will only be worth £5000 once you have driven it away from the dealer, and the thread will be complete.

Excellent advice, I can see your a motoring expert with comprehensive expereince of all Fiats and French cars and we should all bow down to your superior knowledge on all things related to the car.

French cars have only one dipstick, unlike your car....which Has 2

Yet another TROLL

The only thing I find off putting about Peugeot is that whilst they are probably very reliable, they seem to be just a little boring? to look at, Citroens seem to be imaginative, daring and cutting edge as opposed to Peugeots dependable.
I've never been a great Renault fan, no reason, but wouldn't **** them off without a good reason, so I don't..

Gun

Small Fiats are always good fun to drive, nice revvy engines and light feeling. No they aren't the best quality but they are cheap and I personally would chose one over any french brand.

Had a mk2 punto for 3 years, not a single mechanical or electronic problem. So far so good. Had a grande as a courtesy car - seemed alright, the only downside for me were the pillars near the front of the windows. Still, I think they have the styling right.

Look everybody just buy one and then if you encounter any problems afterwards then... cry! Lol!

worth a , er-hem , punto , at this price .

Why is everyone talking about Fiats being french when they are actually Italian?

Any Quidco?

;-)

Disagree. Merc did have a wobble, but are now back near the top.

Great deal - hot - cheers

I have a Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 Active Sport model that is just over 3 years old and looks the same design as this . I have to say it drives very well, loads of leg room in the front ( i'm over 6 foot) and cheap to service and insure. Last year fiat gave me a voucher for a service and mot for £120 and this year another service for £99 so not bad at all as Honda want £360 to service my wifes 2 year old 1.2l Jazz !!!! :? . BUT i also have to say that on the Punto:

Breather hoes needed replacing in around the first 12 months ( around 7000 miles)

steering column replaced just under 2 years ( around 12000 miles)

As of last week the electronic boot has stopped opening so i'm having to put down the rear seats to get stuff out :w00t: (22000 miles)

Its a shame because it is an ideal car for me to go to work and back in and i don't exactly drive it hard as it still has the same tyres and brake pads as when i bought it but it does seem a little bit unreliable

Im on my 4th Fiat Punto, and apart from the 1st one I owned (T Reg) which the water pump went ive had no problems with them. excellent MPG and never broken down. The customer service has always been 2nd to none at the Fiat garage.

I would recommend a Fiat to everyone. Sure they used to have a bad rep, but I can assure you thats changed with the recent launch of vehicles.

Euro is like £1.17, why isn't it cheaper?

I think that the german people will be outraged when they realise 88% of their income tax revenue is being used to prop up failing euro countries, then will be the time to order a porsche

Wow the older model actually looks nicer than the new one, in fact the new on looks identical in shape to my little 57 mitsubishi colt. my experience on these very flat angled bonnets is lots of paint chips. older model featured here will be better for this.

Save just over 2k... pretty much the4 same price as when we had the scrappage scheme running then... rip off merchants!
