Don't try to buy a large frame size though:

Great saving on this model for this price.....
Heat.

These bike companies are taking us for a ride in this country. The price seems ridiculous when you can get this great electric scooter for just £206.

Bit of a difference between a Chinese brand youth scooter and a road bike...

The youth tag is a bit of a misnomer. There's an adult version as well but the only difference seems to be the size of the battery. So they are both for anyone who wants to ride them, adult or youth.

£206 + VAT + Import tax + cost of providing 2 year EU warranty.

Granted even then the scooter is a lot cheaper but I have to agree with the previous poster, an electric bike like this and that scooter are not really comparable.

Someone buy that for me, I can't afford it

Don't think you can legally use that on the road or a path let alone on anything that has a gradient.

The market for a reasonable quality road bike with an electric motor must be very limited indeed.

E-bikes usually appeal to commuters or older people, not road bike buyers.

I can't see much point paying for a good quality lightweight frame and components and then strapping a whacking big battery and motor to the bike, making all the weight saving irrelevant.

It's also illegal to ride a bike on a pavement but thousands do it every day. We live in a miserable country with miserable rules made by miserable people. I have seen people ride electric scooters on paths in London though.

Fantastic deal but I don't even really like the TRP SPYRE on my CAADX, let alone on an e-bike. Heat added though for decent enough bike. (Would just prefer hyrdro brakes)

The ebike regulations make a road bike even stranger as they have two limits in the EU:
1) Max assisted speed 25KP/H (15.5MP/H)
2) Max motor power of 250W
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_bicycle_laws#European_Union_definition)
The speed limit mean that road bikes would only gain anything when going up a step hill. Certainly when I cycle anywhere on a hybrid or mountain bike, I can easily do around 25KP/H on flat ground and yet am constantly overtaken by people on road or racing bikes.
The 250W motor limit probably means that even the one thing an ebike should be very good for is not that practical either: building sturdier city bicycles with excellent full mudguards, chain-guards, always on lights front and back, luggage carriers and so on (i.e. things which are great for safe city use but make a normal bicycle heavy to pedal.

Can't fault you and hopefully prices will drop on ebikes. I'm looking for something to do a longer more rural commute with a few hills and damn doing on a scooter would be good, although I'd be knackered on arrival.

You're right, I'm living in China at the moment and e-bikes are the norm here. Everyone uses them, it's the best way to get around. I bought a decent one for £230 and it goes much quicker than 25km/h. And that wasn't even a good deal, Walmart sells folding e-bikes for about £120.

Edit: I can also get the Xiaomi scooter for close to £110.

how about for an older cyclist with knee issues who can no longer keep up wth his friends / cycle group? a little help up hills may be all such a person needs. Though maybe the bikes with a small motor in the down tube would suit that market better.

I've seen some stealth e bikes 2nd hand for just £500ish more.

I would think that the bigger battery and 3000w motor would be a better choice.

Correct my if I'm wrong as I'm a complete newbie.

Wow.. 1.5K for a standard 250w setup with only a 400Wh battery and no suspension. Might as well bend over and flash runway lights.

I have the trp spyre and they have been far better since I replaced the pads to Shimano deore pads wiggle.co.uk/shi…ds/
£7 a set, the spyres are meant to be even better with swissstop pads £18 a set.

for the bling I also added icetech rotors on, and I'm sure they make a big different over the regular rotors and I lost around 70-80 grams over the old rotors and CL adaptor,

they havent got the power of Xt m8000 or even slx mountain bike brakes but they stop ok.
the 105 and ultagra Shimano hydraulics are £250/£300 on Merlin cycles if you fancy an upgrade

Blimey. You could make a killing selling the xiaomi scooter for that price on here!

The reason ebikes are so expensive, is that they just dont sell many here in the UK. Its currently a really small market. If the amount of ebikes sold were the same as regular bikes, they would only be half the price, or even less.
I built my own ebike with a kit, but would only buy a ready built one if has a big discount.

Can i ask where you got your conversion kit from? Im wary of ebay bargains with this and have only looked at cyclotricity, thanks

I got an 8fun front hub motor kit with a 9amp/hr battery........ cost about £400, but this was about 4/5 years ago now. I'm still using it so its been really reliable, but you can get better, more torque, and more efficient systems now. I would prob go crank drive if i bought a kit again.
Ebikes, and Ekits take a lot of research to get what you want, everyone has different requirements....;. try the Ebike forums, Pedelecs, Endless Sphere and even some cycle forums have a Ebike section.
