After he saves her from drowning in the bay, Scottie’s interest shifts from business to fascination with the icy, alluring blonde. When tragedy strikes and Madeleine dies, Scottie is devastated. My favourite film but waiting for 4k restoration

For such an old film it won't work. You can't make 4k out of a film that wasn't shot in 4k.

They weren’t shot in ‘HD’ either.
They were shot on film.

Most modern films aren’t shot in 4K, they are shot digitally using sub-4K cameras and they get mastered at 2K and then upscaled to 4K for a UHD disc. (Hi, Atomic Blonde, Star Trek Beyond,). Sure, it’ll look cleaner than a Blu-ray print, but it’s not a truer definition.

A 35mm film print is the equivalent of 4K resolution, a 70mm film print is as much as 8K.

You can take a 4K/8K/12K scan of the original print and restoratively clean it up - though on some films it will highlight its shortcomings massively and ruin that cinematic gaze.

School over.

You obviously know nothing about film, go and do some reading......old 70mm film is the equivalent of 8k it is why old films look the best when remastered. 4k / 8k is a resolution it has nothing to do with beimg digital.

Old films shot on 70mm are all ripe for remastering and will look absolutely stunning. Lots of films have already been restored for Blu-ray era and now they can finish the job for 4k.

2001 A Space Odyssey is just about to be relaunched at cinema in a 8k master and was originally shot in 70mm - case closed!!!! Go educate yourself instead of jumping in head first & looking silly.
