nothing special and certainly not a great PC. Mine is better and cost £300 18 months ago.

I am not sure that £199 is such a great price for a system unit with a so-so CPU and no operating system. Also on board graphics and sound.

The individual hardware prices are below (all these figures are rough, off the top of my head, they may all be a few pounds either way). That comes to £199 (maybe another £10 for a DVD drive), Ebuyer will buy them in cheaper

The CPU is about £50
Case/PSU another £30
Memory £40
Motherboard £40
Hard drive £30
Keyboard/mouse £9

Pc component prices have gone up recently, due to $-£ exchange rate going down

I was looking at this desktop for my father in law. You guys have now put me off it. Does anyone else know of anywhere selling a decent deskop for no more than £300. I dont really know what Iam looking for, so any pointers will be a great help.

Thanks

Mark

Very old and slow processor. Definitely not a great PC.

You say its not a great price, but your parts come to more ~219, and you have to build it and get no warranty:whistling:

Thanks, but I was looking for new.

As a professional PC builder, this is a decent price. You can't build it for cheaper, although it would be similar. Windows Vista Ultimate as well, which is the top one

Vista Ultimate OEM - pcworld.co.uk/pro…rch around £120

Should be fine for most office applications, but not top end gaming as integrated graphics, which will use a chunk of that 4Gb RAM - is that why they fitted 4Gb RAM? Only 64-bit versions of Windows can utilise this amount...

It's going to need a screen as well, don't forget.

My parts come to £199 plus maybe an extra £10 for DVDdrive, so £209.

I did not say is was BAD offer, just not a particularly good one.

But you get no installed operating system so you have to buy and install that yourself (or you have to install the Vista Ultimate if you buy that as part of the offer), plus you need to buy a monitor and speakers.

So it is difficult to compare this PC with one on Dell's web site.

Its not a bad deal but please be aware. Its states WIndows Vista premium 32bit edition. 32 bit edition operating systems can only make use of a maxium of 3gb so you have 1gb that can't be used! So no point getting it unless you can get it with WIndows Vista Premium 64bit edition.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm sure you can just install vista 64 bit as the key should be valid for both. You just choose which one you want to use.

Although you may need to request a 64 bit disk from Microsoft.

For me this is a very good deal, fair enough the parts only come in at around the £200 mark or just above. but the operating system is £100+ on top.

but why have the flagship vista product running on a very poorly performing PC?

you could get a much better Dell system for £270

More info here (without the OS): hotukdeals.com/ite…e2/
I have bought one and think its good for the price - I have only just got it out of the box though!

Correct me if I'm wrong here but this site is about voting on a deal that is listed, not a alternative.
If you feel there is a better dell deal post it

this isn't a poor spec pc, you can't get better for the money

I think it's a pretty decent deal too but for those who don't, could you provide a link for a computer around the £300-400 mark which you think's better value for money? I'm on the lookout myself and some opinions would be greatly appreciared!

Did I just see "better" and "DELL" in the same sentence?

I wouldn't buy a DELL unless I was a complete nubcake.

It's an OK computer for the cost. The processor is not great and the graphics are poor, the RAM is irrelevent as you wont be able to use anything that requires it. I built something like a 2.4 C2D, 7600GT, 4gb RAM, Vista Ultimate 2 years ago for £350

tremtastic;4302088

No - this is a Pentium Dual Core (Not a Pentium D or P4) which is just a Core 2 CPU with half the cache.

Not a bad CPU at all.

Ultimate gives you 32 AND 64 in the box - although i'd rather get 7 Beta and then 7 when it releases...

Could I use this as a media server (add a second bigger hard drive) and have the viata ultimate synch with my xbox 360 using Media Center?

Are you sure? Vista RETAIL comes with both disks. This is a pre-installed OEM version. You will be lucky to get any medium with it at all. Probably just a restore partition. As far as I know, OEM copies of Vista are sold singly - you have to specify whether you want 32 or 64 bit.

I would imagine these come with a disk, you will probably only get the 32 bit disk but the key is interchangeable.

this is actually not a very good deal. for those who know computers.

If your looking for a basic, half decent entry level PC then this is a bargain.
Fair enough most of us can build one for less.. Less hassle buying it... Comes with Vista and PC Looks good.

I know computer well, I have been building them for 12+ years.

Care to explain why? Although vista ultimate is a little over the top for home use, and premium would do just fine. Vista ultimate is part of the deal, so that's what it is judged on.

If someone wants a pre built lowish end system, with a operating system this seems a good deal to me.

Sure if you build your own you could maybe knock a few £££ off. But people who buy these, are people who tend not to want to build their own.

Ive been trying to add a picture that i got sent with the mailshot from ebuyer but the forum just keeps deleting it...

Looks like a good spec pc for the price, very little info though I would like to know what M/B is uses? and also what is the PSU output? I have learned from past experience these are your basic building blocks and if they underperform you can forget upgrading in the future. Still if you dont plan on trying to get it to be a gaming pc it looks good.

Your paying for the OS pretty much with is completely unnecessary!!
