Acer 15.6 inch chromebook available from Amazon warehouse for under £160 with the black Friday 20% discount applied at checkout. Only one left!!!
Just received mine and looks brand new.
The reviews for this aren't great but examining the reviews further you will see they relate to the AMD A4 chip with a 720p TN panel. This one has more power using the A6 chip and had a full 1080 IPS screen which doesn't look too shabby.
This model is not a touch screen but does have the play store.
Seems great value for money to me and there are a few in stock which are in very good condition.
Might help someone on a budget that wants a no frills laptop with a decent screen.

Not too sure but this is this years model so should have support for a few years to come

Edited:

It looks like June 2026, and it should get octane benchmark scores of 12,000 which good enough for most people.

Speedometer 2.0: 33,9
Octane v1: 12 064

Thanks
Looks great value. This is about the only time I'll advocate an AMD A6, as fitted in a Chromebook it'll probably shine.
Is this one as good as the Lenovo on offer at curry’s for 179
Also for roblox would this run it better than a tablet?
Pardon my ignorance but how do you I get it for £150?

It's showing up as £219.99.

Look for the option to buy "New & Used". This will open up a list of other purchase options. Select option of the Amazon Warehouse options. Proceed to checkout and price will be further discounted. This is working for me.

Not all CBs support Android.
Look Here
£148.54 at the checkout for me
For those interested - Like New now at £195.65 before discount, or £156.52 after 20% discount.

Suspect Very Good will probably suffice but it's only a difference of £8.
I ordered this machine a couple of days ago which arrived on Friday..shipped it back on the Saturday. This is what I said about it in previous post:-

"I'm sorry to say it was a massive let down ..and I sent it straight back the following day. A real shame as looks wise, battery life and sound, it was more than acceptable. But unfortunately the main thing I must have is RELIABLE PERFORMANCE. And this thing just failed to deliver. Taking an age to load pages, failing to play 720p videos without buffering,, and many times taking over 10+ seconds to respond to request(not 10+secs to begin and complete loading a requested page/link, but to actually begin responding before another tedious wait during the actual loading stage once it woke up from its coma) I mean what the hell type of garbage are they putting in these things??? It just doesn't make sense to make such a beautifully designed machine that has a useless piece of garbage at the heart of it. I'd understand more if even some light multi-tasking or something was slowing things up, but we're talking about single tab operations here. The most basic of tasks and it's struggling to manage."

The reason I'm looking for a new larger Chromebook is because my old smaller one died(after great usage) R.I.P. CB3-111. And while that machine was anything but lightning fast, I could cope with its performance because it was super consistent..and it was at least responsive to my every request. And it also played 720p video without any of that buffering nonsense(allowing for time jumps with only brief re-load stall) The AMD A-6 unfortunately couldn't offer me those minimum requirements

But just to be clear, anyone looking for a budget laptop, who also isn't bothered about enduring an intermittently sticky performance, this is for sure a great deal. You're unlikely to find better audio and screen quality than this machine has at such low cost. But for someone who demands consistent(if not fast) performance, I believe you'll struggle with this the same way I did. I suspect that's why there's many being returned..and the price has crashed to an almost unbelievable low. BF is an ideal excuse/opportunity for them to offload a bundle of these at "bargain" prices.

Yes it does. I have this chromebook and it comes with preinstalled google playstore.
Hi, excuse my ignorance here but what is the difference between one of these and a low cost Windows laptop? I assume the OS, but anything else? Any merits over Windows?

It really depends what you use your computer for. A chromebook boots up in seconds with no update slow downs in the background. There is no need for an anti virus as this is built in. You do however need an internet connection for most tasks however there are more offline options than previously.
You do not have full windows but you do get an online version with limited resources, however I must say google docs is equally as good (in my experience) and with its constant save feature you never lose any important work.
A windows PC is probably better if you are looking for productivity but if you are after a PC with a long battery life and is simple to use then a chromebook is a serious option

Thanks for your reply.

So would a good assessment be that a Chromebook is best for web browsing etc? In other words, sort of like having a tablet, but in the shape of a laptop?

So does it actually run windows? Any issues in installing basic software, i.e. PDF readers etc?

A chromebook is definitely a great browsing machine. Productivity wise is depends what you use it for. I have a windows laptop but to be honest I never use it as my chromebook does everything I want....documents, excel, PowerPoint etc.. There are also photo editing apps available but nowhere as powerful as a windows to be honest.
I recently bought a new windows laptop with decent spec but really missed the simplicity of my chromebook and bought this Acer chromebook which is half the price of my windows laptop. I am glad I did:)

Nice one! I'm doing some research now.

Is this Acer model old now? Any issues in terms of support? Am I better of with something like the Acer R11?

Sorry for all the questions I'm quite familiar with Windows PCs, by no means a novice. But haven't come across Chromebooks much.

Tbh, I want this for the Mrs who has wanted her own laptop for ages. But the idea of a Windows laptop becoming laggy, outdated and prone to viruses etc worries me. That's why I said the whole thing about a tablet in the shape of a laptop lol, because that's effectively what she'd need

This is a 2019 model and one of the replies here suggests that support is there until 2016.

Ain't had any of those issues at all as of yet with streaming being buffer free when using Netflix, Iplayer, YouTube, Amazon instant video etc...
I have had about 8 tabs open at once with no slow down at all.
Looks like you may have had a faulty machine.

Would be great if you could stream that in action? I'd naturally be encouraged to order again. And I'm sure plenty other possible buyers would be interested and encouraged to see it was capable of such fluency..

Always possible. But why are people not prepared to show real time performance? If I could see for myself that these things are in fact capable, I'd have simply returned the unit as faulty and had them send a replacement. As it was, I seen enough negative reviews which backed my experience, so I wrote it off without the thought I'd simply been unfortunate enough to get a dud.

This place(and YT, online in general) would be so much better IF only people were prepared to do a little bit xtra in confirming a products overall quality..by showing some standard, real life exercises.

Cheers. I wasn't meaning specifically you when I said about the sharing thing. I was just saying in general it would be so useful if more people were willing to share some quality facts. If you can record constant for 5-10 mins, opening tabs, stopping on pages for a time(as if you're reading) before clicking on another fav in the bookmark bar, playing video and also time jumping them etc.. that would be ideal.

A good place to upload without the need for an account is sendvid.com/

Once your uploaded file is processed it'll give you the video url, which can then be shared anywhere.

From reading other reviews it appears fanless and I haven't heard anything with my limited use which would suggest otherwise
