I was walking through Ilkley today and about 15 people rode past me. Each person was on a Brompton. Must have been some Brompton biker association. I wonder how near these Greenway bikes are in quality to the Brompton ones. Greenway bikes are lots cheaper.

These Greenway bikes are more like a great value alternative to many Dahon or Tern models and not really in the same area as Bromptons. The Bromptons have that incredibly small fold and based around an incredibly reliable 3 speed hub with a ultra strong mini-derailleur setup to take it to 6 gears.

I didn't have any problems but I'm with plusnet currently although about to change. For those interested probably best to buy via Amazon then to ensure you get excellent customer service.

This is the company's main site in China. Although the equipment level appears much lower on the models listed there.

Well put. Bromptons are also made (made, not just the label stuck on) in the UK, and this naturally results in a premium due to labour costs.

I've got a greenway single speed, was £150, I could not be happier with it.

Seems like value for money

Still hesitant- Need item reviewed prior to buying ?

Maybe buying through Amazon is the best idea. Their customer service is excellent and if there are any issues they will make the effort to sort them.

Slightly cheaper by phoning it looks like.

Still available and still a great price for this spec. Many of the other Greenway bikes that were great value have sold out and been replaced by much inferior models at only slightly lower prices and suspect the same may be true here too.

slightly put off by the 13kg weight - if I bought a folding bike I think I'd prefer to pay a bit more for a lighter bike - not an expert but isnt one of the the main selling pointa of a folding bike is that it should be easy to carry around ?

Which folding bike are you comparing it to? Steel folding bikes can be up to 16kg and 13kg is pretty light. This bike features low weight components where possible but it has a heavier cassette based drivetrain for strength, double wall rims and the frame has reinforcing by the seat tube. You can find aluminium frame bikes at 12kg at a similar price point but they will have much weaker wheels, drivetrain and possibly frame. It's well worth paying the 0.5-0.9kg weight penalty to get those upgrades. Folding bikes tend to be a little bit heavier I guess because of the folding design that requires hinges, telescopic tubes etc.

If weight is a big issue for you consider a smaller wheel size like 16" but 20" is often a good compromise point between ride quality and portability.

Brand leader for folding bikes Dahon has this model. It's 12.3kg but has a very low end plastic derailleur and low quality light freewheel with single wall rims. So I would say the Greenway is very competitive for weight considering its components.

thanks for the reply - will have a think on it - understand now that at around this price level you wont really be getting a bike thats noticeably lighter than this one & any such one will have other issues as you mentioned

There are lighter bikes with decent components at a much higher price point and you may have to check rider weight limitations which may be reduced. To me such bikes have diminishing returns. You are paying, much much more to get a weaker frame bike with a superior lightweight drivetrain. To shave off each kg of weight on the bike it might be equal to £500. So much cheaper to just lose those kg's from your own body instead which will be easier with a heavier bike anyway.
