i went to Greggs once and they wouldnt serve me - they said: "Greggs Bakery - Pure British Cornish Pasties - Doughnut serve Indian". Only Chavs work there i suppose

I'm disgusted if that's true rakdamac!

I've had that also here in Bristol. I got called a honky white chocolate freakbox.

It's all true - they wouldnt let me buy any food - purely because of race. I complained and they offered me £5 worth of vouchers in compensation - wrote back into head office and ended up having a meeting with a director about the racism. They totally dismissed it - but offered me £20 instead - shameful

No way! Come on down to Bedminster we'd not let that happen :x

Went into one today for the first time. Horrible, horrible food. Better off going to an independent baker.

Don't really think Bedminster is my scene either...isn't that now more for (how can I put it)... men who, you know.........like men?

So Rakdamac,

re "It's all true - they wouldnt let me buy any food - purely because of race. I complained and they offered me £5 worth of vouchers in compensation"

did they (a) acknowleedge the racism you experienced and take appropriate disciplinary action against the employee in question, or did they (b) literally ignore the issue and wave vouchers in your face until you (the problem) went away?

If (a) I think that's pretty ugly and I will never enter a Gregg's bakery again, not that I did anyway. Their stuff ain't great - let's be honest.

Thanks seejay, unfortunately the director claimed that it wasnt racism but claimed that "it was a saturday, very busy...he looked at me before getting scared...and he only recently started working there".

Where you hoping to get some sort of rise from that ?

yeast you tried.

re "unfortunately the director claimed that it wasnt racism but claimed that 'it was a saturday, very busy...he looked at me before getting scared...and he only recently started working there'. "

So, his point - if I'm following the 'logic' here - is that it's excusable to ignore an Indian in favour of a white person in a Gregg's bakery under the following circumstances; it's a Saturday, it's busy and finally, if the perpetrator is a new member of staff?

I suppose the racist employee hadn't had time to undergo Gregg's extensive training programs, which - we must assume - enable those with far rightwing tendancies to interact with (not serve, obviously) the 'non-whites', without choking, puking or bursting into violent spasms? That is the only explanation to the 'he was new' arguement. As for 'busy' and 'saturdays' - they should warn the indian community about this new rule, so we don't "get all offended, like".

shame on gregg's

They have also refused to serve me in Greggs.

Is it because I is broke?

Greggs have gotten a lot better since their product line was partially merged with Bakers Oven.

Used to be rubbish. They'd sell pasties at 50p with virtually no filling. At least now they sell ones closer to the £1 mark but a nice like the Bakers Oven ones!

AMO

They refused me once. I gave them a £50 note and they didnt have change.:?
but then they explained they dont accept £50 notes company policy.

Seejay, i asked Sir Mike Darington (owner of Greggs) to put up a anti racism campaign (just to say that Greggs' is not in anyway racist). However, nothing has been down - all we can do is hope

Gregg's food is minging apart from the steak slices. I much prefer Sayer's though I doubt anyone outside of the Merseyside area will have heard of them?

BTW: Are Gregg's still called Thurston's in Yorkshire?

You will be dead by the time you manage to reach this deal.

Greggs is pure **** wrapped in fat, I dunno why Mcdonalds gets attacked so much when you got greggs the chav resturant of choice.

Where? Where?

lol

bad for u

greggs is truly the choice of chavs

I just been there myself and have to agree im not a big fan of their food, since college the only thing ive had from there are Tuna baguetts+eclairs+Spongecake and thats only because they are cheaper than elsewhere and dont taste too bad either. I had no idea that some people have experienced racism while shopping there, dont think I'll be in a hurry to shop there again.
