I love grooveshark, much better than spotify

Spotify also does LastFM scrobbling, even on free accounts...

i tried spotify once, and i had to listen to adverts, stuff that

Not everyone has a free spotify account, and getting an invite is not the easiest thing, well I have found it difficult anyhow.

The main advantage of Grooveshark is a much cheaper alternative to spotify

I tested the signup and at the last stage it added 17.5% for "local taxes".

Making the $30 $35.25 in fact.

Similar for the monthly cost.

Bear that in mind.

Still cheaper than Spotify.

Why not sign up for United States account?

I still use free spotify. The premium monthly cost is too much and I dont mind the adverts on free...

Plus if I Scrobble LastFM mobile will play trays I like through Spotify free for free. So I pay nothing for something very similar.

Must say i use Grooveshark on the desktop and never use Spotify ,adverts are hell.
Grooveshark is excellent.

shame u can't use the free spotify or the like on Android, wouldn't mind the ads too much , much better than paying as Fatal says.

If anyone can provide an invite to spotify much appreciated.

Groovehshark is also free, it's only if you want the VIP benefits like no ads and mobile apps that you would have to pay for

Pity no symbian version, potentially 100m more customers and proper multi-tasking... -.-

Just bought the £2 month, i think once this month is over im more than likely going to subscribe for the full year if it's still the same price (doubt it though). At £2 you can't go wrong, tried spotify & we7 on my G1 and ipod but i found they weren't worth the £10 a month.

Hopefully £2 will be worth it, does anyone know how many devices your account can be used on? As it's 3 with spotify and 5 with we7. As i have my G1, jailbroken ipod and my fathers jailbroken iphone. Can't seem to find it anywhere on their website

Not sure, but you can try asking ]here

cheers for the post never heard of Grooveshark before, testing out the free version at the moment, quality sounds better than free Spotify (I stream music of my laptop to my hifi) ....cheers again.

you can also upload music to grooveshark so you can access it when your not at your computer. so could potentially use it for audiobooks.

What is the difference between me using mobbler via a last fm account and this? I stream music to my phone via that and don't pay anything. I just use my internet allowance through my network provider.

I had never heard of this until now, and it looks very good, thanks. I'm interested in the iPhone caching mostly, and used to use Spotify for that, until I threw a tantrum when they offered Spotify Premium half price to random people but not existing subscribers. Threw my rattle out, stopped paying; this looks like a good replacement. £2 a month is certainly better than £10, and they appear to have the same stuff I want to listen to.

I'm a little concerned by the sentence "for a brief time, VIPs get to use it completely free." How brief, I wonder? Would be a shame to sign up and have the mobile app pulled.

Threadjack: a few folk have mentioned here they want Spotify invites. I have a few, message me if you want one.

Thanks op for this, trying out the free version, first time I have used it and it play songs that spotify don't, so thanks very much!!! Heat added.

Looks interesting. May sign up to this and give it a go on the blackberry.

According to their website you can sync tracks to your phone like with Spotify.

Thanks for the heads up

Had this for quite a while on my iPhone, but couldn't get it to work! Had another go at it after seeing this post. VERY, VERY impressed. I think I might give it a whirl at £2 a month. Maybe even the whole year!

amazing! also, ipod app gives 50 free songs a fortnight

i currently pay £10 a month for spotify so i can use it for my iphone, i hadnt heard of this so thanks!

Heat added
Tried the website and looks like i can find alot more obscure and non-mainstream songs on there

Grooveshark also works with Orbit Downloader to 'capture' the stream.

Grooveshark isn't legal, which is why it's cheaper than Spotify. The money you pay isn't going to artists, it's just going in the developers pocket (though they like to say they've got a pot of money incase someone asks for it..). It's like the music on YouTube. People upload songs onto YouTube but it's not actually legal as the artists don't get anything from it.

I tried it with my BlackBerry and it didn't work/connect. Pretty pish.

I don't think you can compare the pricing of Spotify v Grooveshark. As far as I can see, Grooveshank relies on members uploading tracks which then become available to all other members. Whereas Spotify pays a very small amount of money to the recording company each time you play a track. For non Premium Spotify accounts this is funded via the adverts or your £10 a month premium account (which I agree is too much) for a higher bitrate and no adverts.

It didn't work on my new Bold either BUT the app is great! As good, or better than Spotify imo

Just to echo what another poster said, what is the difference between this and the Last.fm app that I currently have on my iPhone which allows me to stream music to my phone for free?

I use grooveshark a lot in work as last.fm is blocked and I love the radio feature, however, I am very happy with last.fm when I'm at home and through my iPhone app too which has been quite frankly absolutely perfect for me.

It is our aim to revolutionize the way you listen to music, and we intend to do so in a completely legal manner. You can choose pretty much any song, rather then listining to a 'channel' on last FM.

You're also able to forward and rewind in a song

well, ive signed up for the $3 version, and it seems pretty good so far. just gonna test the app with my bb bold as well, fingers crossed after other people have said it doesnt work.
heat added as well, never heard of it before, used to use spotify

IF you have a windows mobile phone someone made a free app that plays music from grooveshark for free.

Also you can use the skyfire browser with its flash capabilities to access the desktop site.

So I'm using the iphone app, on the trial 2 week period.
I like it, quality is good, interface seems pretty good.
But how do I search for an album? Say I want to play a whole album instead of just an individual song by an artist how would I do that?
my searches just bring up individual songs... then it goes into "radio mode"

They are 30 seconds, and while they aren't really that annoying, Grooveshark doesn't have any at all.

The android app is nice but flawed.

THere is a current bug which means all music is played with low bitrate and many are currently not available. Low bitrate on grooveshark really is low quality (64kb at best). This bug was flagged several months ago but they lack update.

Nice service but not as clean and well developed as spotify. I'd recommend using last.fm or spotify instead at the moment.
