If you get the Venus flytrap one to have any chance of it growing only water it with rain water or deionised water, tap water will kill it. It is a big plant so keep it standing in a bit of water during the summer and drier (and cooler) during the winter.

Mine only gets tap water and has just produced the most lovely flower!
Sorry auto correct caught me out it is a bog plant . You would also need specialist carnivorous plant compost to grow it in and a very sunny windowsill.

Really, you must have really soft tap water with low salt levels. Most people's tap water isn't suitable tho.

Lol I am in Orkney dude!

Ok perhaps i should have said only a little pollution - depends where you live though and as you are in old Smokey yeah Edinburgh is the pits for pollution and Glasgow is worse!
