Was in the Edinburgh Powderhall B&Q tonight and in the reduced garden section (next to tills) they had lots of plants reduced and I spotted this Grow-Your-Own mushroom kit.

Includes compst with spawn, peat and seems easy enough to do at home.

Usual price £5.98, not sure if it's a nationwide deal but Powderhall had another few boxes left.

Can anyone confirm if this is all stores? Father-in-law got one for Xmas, and although not the most exciting thing in the world, looked great for it you cook with mushrooms often so I wouldn't mind one especially at this price!

OK, what type of mushrooms? Magic

Lol I'll find out in a few weeks time, I guess.

Box says 'white cap', normal supermarket ones.

Can't seem to get a photo to work on here....

I've grown them from a kit before and it only took about a week, make sure you do exactly what it says on the packet (keep moist, in a dark place etc.). Once they come up they grow very quickly and can double or triple in size in a day.

How mush room does this kit take up?

what a fun guy!

I feel like a mushroom, my partner keeps me in the dark and feeds me a load of s**t !

Can you keep using these over and over again? Or is £2.50 for one lot? I can get quite a few mushrooms in ASDA for £2.50

Eat loads of the things would like not to have to buy them anymore

You can get 2 or 3 'batches' but the yield diminishes with each successive batch. It's cheaper to buy them from the supermarket if all you're interested in is the price for the actual mushrooms.

good price but you need somewhere warm to grow them

Use the airing cupboard.

I bought one last year, followed the instructions exactly and just got a layer of mould, no mushrooms to be seen.

Agreed, I got the same one from B&Q - I got exactly the same, it was not very good at all.

You're lucky, all I got was a million tiny flies hatch out.

lol, I had them too, little ones that seemed to jump everywhere!

Yeah I had loads of flies on the last one I got - reduced in an end of line sale.

I assume the kit was left around for too long and the fungi died? In the kit before that I got loads of delicious mushrooms (much better quality than you'd get in ASDA for the person complaining about the price above!).

Is this a grow your own mushroom or mushrooms?

Is this the std button mushroom spawn? (Agaricus bisporus)

i bought this last year and got 1 mushroom from it.

Those little flies where probably scarid fly's if you get them take the kit back to B&Q and demand a refund as there is no excuse for poor quality products

Do you use all the compost in one go? It says you can repeat another 2 or 3 times so does that mean I have to only use a quarter of the ingredients?
