Grundig Freesat+ HD 500GB HD Recrorder - £65 @Tesco (instore only)

First post, so be kind!
Saw a Freesat HD recorder box in Tesco Coventry (by the Ricoh) for just £65. The shelf label wasn't saying it was on sale etc, so had to check with staff and they said it was the correct price. They were selling a similar model that didn't record for about £90 next to it!
Can't see it on their website, apart from a 250GB model for £129.99.
This is definitely 500GB and HD. Just set mine up now and it's working great!!
Not sure if it's national. No promo around it in the shop.
Model no. GUFSDTR500HD

Nice 1 thankyou, anyone know of a cheap HD FreeVIEW one?

Edited by: "hotmik" 5th Jan 2012

would love one of these ... but can almost guarantee my local stores won't have one

I would also love one of these but fear that they won't have one in my 2 Tesco's (Bletchley and Kingston). I was told by the manager of the Bletchley store that they keep an eye on HotUKDeals and amend prices when they are too wrong. I went in there a few days ago for the 16p space saver vacuum bags.

was there any left at the ricoh store may send hubby done!

There were about 10-15 at about 2pm when I was there

Great price, but shame only 1080i rather than full HD 1080p.

Does each tuner need its own LNB? If so, might be better to wait for a freeview HD PVR at a similar price (one can only hope!).

I currently have the Goodmans (same as Grundig) HD box and experience a lot of hanging/power on from standby issues, as described by many others on the net.

Did they have anymore at the Ricoh Tesco?

Just like my Asda the manager was asking me where I found a ps3 deal, when I told him he said to me I thought so.

There is no broadcast service which transmits at 1080p as of now (or likely to be for some time) which is why all these boxes are 1080i (pretty much de-facto for broadcast HD).

This is a phenomenal price for a twin tuner unit. Each tuner will need its own LNB, but dual/quad LNB's are very cheap and a straight swap for those that don't already have them (obviously second cable is also needed).

Does anyone know if it has a CAM slot or if its strictly for free view HD? Also does it support motorised dishes?

Wrong! I've been getting a 1080p signal through Freeview HD in Coventry on my Samsung on BBC One HD and BBC HD, mainly on night programmes for some months now. This article confirms it.

When do Sky start broadcasting in full HD?! (_;)

The BBC broadcast some 1080p on Freeview HD.

Not on Freesat. There were two European broadcasters whom were, but one was subscription which this receiver can't handle and the other very little was broadcast anyway, both would require a dish realignment anyway assuming using a dish pointed at 28.2/5e.

Wow, one broadcaster, and then it's not constant 1080p.

Still not paying for it!

None around the Doncaster/Rotherham/Sheffield/Barnsley areas either.

Tesco Craigmarloch had 4/5 left on Sunday when I picked one up.

Model is discontinued. It uses two lnb's, similar to Sky hd, and has similar functionality.

Will also work from a single feed (single channel view/record).

Care to elaborate?

i had one of these it went **** up , the customer call cost me £20 and they were VERY VERY unhelpfull and this was after an update the box froze and NEVER WORKED AGAIN !!

I've got the goodmans version of this. It's okay, but you can't rely on timer recordings on bbc hd as there is an issue when it tunes into it. :-(

The guy was a bit slow tbh (no offense guy) - I really had to lead him by the hand to even get the info I did, out of him. Gave up after that. Their sytem can probably only check specific stores - my guess.

Each tuner will need it's own LNB connection, but if you've had Sky + HD at any time then your LNB will probably be a quad, and it would be a case of running a cable to the LNB.

Or, if you'd prefer, just use the LNB's connected to the Sky receiver.

There were 3 left about an hour ago =] (Coventry Arena Store)

Will thus work with a old sky plus dish ?

mine works with an old sky dish. Assuming you received a signal with sky, you should be fine on this

I had one of these. It haback. Fan noisy, and kept missing recordings.
