Can’t go wrong at this price and a 5 year guarantee

Now and again, LG Washing Machines of comparable specification come up for around the same price and sometimes with a 5 Year warranty too. Even without the warranty, the LG wins on noise levels, longevity, build quality, ease of use and performance. I'm not saying the Grundig is a bad buy by any means, but pound for pound the LG wins hands down.

Has it got 'short wave' bands?

Take a look at the LG and then check out the reviews of both machines and you'll see which is the smarter buy.

2 year warranty...

The Grundig website has an address at Beko’s offices. Seems they may have bought/licenced the name to offer a “premium” range of machines. Not sure they’ve chosen the best name to use. I saw this and thought instantly of transistor radios.

2 year warranty...

You would be very unlucky if an LG washing machine needed a repair within 5 years, with or without the extended warranty. I've owned two machines which have been used daily. The first lasted 10 years without needing a repair, the second is on it's 9th year and still going strong again without a repair being required.

Grundig is now owned by a Turkish company

No washing machine has that level of reliability anymore. My sister bought a new LG last year and has had the engineer out to it already. You unfortunately can't assume reliability of a brand anymore based on models built over 10 years ago. I have a laptop that I bought in 1992 that still works. I know my current hp won't last more than 6 or 7 years of use. I have a marantz CD80 that was built in 1989 and cost £800 that's still going strong. I would be lucky to get 5 years out of a modern cd player....as washing machines get more complicated there is far more to go wrong it's just a fact. And the way they build them now does not allow you to just replace a part cheaply. For example the drum and housing on most modern washing machines is a sealed unit. If a bearing goes it's a massive expense to replace the whole drum assembly where in the past you would just dismantle the whole washing machine and replace the bearings.

I have an LG machine currently 3.5 years old with a 5 year guarantee recently developed a fault the engineer came it was just a pressure pipe come off so nothing really he explained these are the best machines very easy to work on and very reliable. He also said whenever he gets called out to an indesit or beko etc he said these machines are usually dead on arrival and usually a replacement machine is needed! I would have another LG machine tomorrow by far the best machine I have owned precious machine was an AEG and Siemens before that.

In this day and age, where nothing seems to last.
I'd take a five year warranted grundig over a two year LG.
Because at the end of the day freek accidents or not, I'm guaranteed not to have to buy a new machine for 5 years.

Thanks OP great price for a guaranteed working washer for 5 years.

It seems to be an almost universal truth that you cannot trust a washing machine brand based on how previous models have performed. Most washing machine manufacturers seem to be involved in a race to the bottom. The one exception seems to be Miele. They rely on their reputation for reliability and longevity and their machines are more expensive. In the long run though, one Miele will cost less than three or four short life machines.

I would include Miele in that list now too... few models have any length of warranty with them now, and prices are disproportionately high. My next door neighbour has had a few visits from the repair men too! Customer service just like all the others is lousy now too: uk.trustpilot.com/rev….uk

My 12 year old Siemens needs replacing soon, and I am spoiled for choice.... do I buy cheap junk or do I buy expensive junk? :-(

Depends on how much you like sitting around, and whether or not you have spare time/holidays to wait in for repairs!

I bought a miele 10 years ago but the newer machines of the same brand are less robust. they may or may not last as long but even miele do not offer long guarantees on the machines . I'm attracted to Grundig on the basis that it does a full wash in less than an hour. Why do modern machines want to do a long wash in over 300 mins ? the launderette machines do a wash in less than 30 mins
