was just about to say the same

I wouldn't recommend low-cost GU10's I bought about 10 from whicks for about a tenner each one seemed to last a matter of weeks, yet I purchased some Philips units from Costco for about £4 each and they lasted for months/years.

The main reason that I posted this was because I've had so many of these things blow

We knocked the place around last year and fitted downlights throughout the g/f as part of a complete re-wire.

We have 8 in the kitchen and 5 have blown, fitted 15 months ago and they weren't cheap I can tell you!

I'm trying the cheapies in the hope that they'll last a similar length of time

Here goes . . . . . .

;-)

You have 400w of lighting in the kitchen? I'd be after some energy saving ones mate, I recently moved house and every room had banks of 4 spotlights. Lighting downstairs alone was 1Kw, when I turned on all the lights in the house it was around 1.7Kw.

:w00t:

Chit, got 8 in the lounge too

Elec' bill rec'd today reads 1321 kwh used in last qtr, is this high ??

Kit lights are on 2 circuits (3 and 5), lounge is 4 and 4, so we don't always use 8.

Does the dimming facility reduce power or just light ?

Thx for the heads up

Bill

i gave away about 20 of these not long ago, only worth about 10-50p tops each new.

****** if i'm running 50w per lamp

I bought 6 from Home bargains in late Jan-2010. five gone already.

Got 10 in my kitchen 40w - do keep blowing.

I Treid a 11w megaman replacement to save power, but they don't produce the same amount of light on the work surface. (when you look at the megaman bulb seems to give out more light but working under the megaman bulb is dreadful, a lot less light).

Going to try an LED bulb next, but not sure which to try?

Voted cold, 50p each all the time at Netto.

TBH that aint bad mate, I use nearly double that! But there are 3 of us in the house working different hours, and 5 pcs running pretty much 24/7.

if you think CFLs are bad, don't try LEDs.
