Correct. If you’re budget savvy this is not for you. If you have a 4K player and want the best experience of these films then this is for you 🏻

The PQ of 4k disc is a little ahead of streaming (even though Disney+ has DV) but the audio is better on disc.

But thats the end of the advantages - with a years Disney+ you can see all the Marvel films right back to Iron Man, and the Star Wars films, and the Pixar films - as well as all the other stuff on Disney+
I prefer ultra HD 4K discs to streaming as the quality is higher. Streaming services typically offer up to 30Mbps whereas a 4K disc goes up to 100Mbps, often using up to 30Mbps for the Dolby Atmos bitstream alone. The Dolby Atmos audio on a 4K Blu Ray is definitely better than any streaming audio service and the picture quality is better too. Some streaming services don’t stream at the full 4K resolution (still better than HD) and compression artefacts are more noticeable.

If you’re watching on a small TV from a distance using built-in speakers you may not care but on a really good system the difference is significant.

I use Cinema Paradiso disc-by-post service as they have a large range of 4K Ultra HD Blu Rays including all the major films and box sets. For around £5 you get 2 discs per month going up to £8 for 4 discs per month or £13 for ‘unlimited’ discs per month. You enter a list of discs you want, they post one or two at a time then you return it in a postage paid envelope to get your next one. I’ve never had a faulty disc and the service works really well with fast turnaround via 1st class post. Ironically, this is how Netflix started before moving on to streaming...

Even better they are sending double the number of discs now to compensate for the postal service being delayed due to coronavirus.

Use this link to get a free 30-day Cinema Paradiso trial.

To see a list of their 4K films and box sets use the Film Explorer with Media filter set to “4K Blu-Ray”.

The subscription is great for people who want to watch a movie once and that is it. But physical media is better quality and has so many extras that a Marvel fan or physical media collector will always buy it.
Was really impressed with the picture quality on Guardians of the Galaxy 2, was hoping for more of the same with the first one.

Sadly I found that not to be the case, real muted colour palette and no real effect with HDR. I feel like they just grabbed the Disney plus release and mastered it onto disc, I believe the maximum nits(?) was the same as the Disney plus release. Such a shame, as I class Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 to be one of the best looking discs.

Still £13.50 each is a great price, so heat mate
UHD: These never go for over £36, marked up to make the deal look better. Not that great a deal - these triple box sets are almost permanently at £33 at Amazon.

Edit: currently £29.99 @ Amazon

...would be hesitant ordering anything from Zoom at the moment...have not received the last 3 orders I ordered from them, 3 and 2 weeks ago, and have had to raise PayPal dispute cases.
Just FYI for any deals from Zoom, they are now sending out orders in delivery bags, which offer no protection. So just bear that in mind when looking at any of their deals. You might want to also factor in the cost of a replacement case, if its damaged in transit.

A real shame, for me they'll now join Zavvi in exclusives only orders or 'to good to pass' deals (including possible cost of replacement case).
I’m still fuming that the big box sets of 4K UHD films that they’d been hinting was coming, with deleted scenes and lots of extras, happened - except only in the US and only very limited stock. Definite kick in the teeth.
Definitely the best marvel movies!! Even better if they hadn't of edited out new York groove

4k streaming quality is dependant on bitrate that the data is streamed at. The more its compressed, the worse it looks. It's still a 4k picture, but that's only the measurement of the picture size, the quality of the picture can vary wildly. I've watched 4k films on Netflix that streamed at 10Mbps and look much worse than the native 4k UHD discs that I own. But... it's a balancing act depending on what you're willing to pay for for the improvement in quality and convenience.
Along with the compression differences between discs & streaming (video & audio quality), which is noticeable at 1080 let alone 4K, the Disney+ versions of films may be censored versions too. For example, Disney "Maclunkey'd" Daryl Hannah in 'Splash', giving her an awful CGI hairy bum.

I get you but we in 2020 now don’t get me wrong your right that disks are better than streaming it’s like vinyl vs streaming audio extra is way better think people just want the laziness of having it there with a click of a button instead of getting up putting the disk in letting it load etc lol

I have both, I rip them uncompressed to my media server and stream then over ethernet via Kodi. Perfect quality. It may be 2020, but we still don't have the streaming quality we deserve

Hmm, that’s disappointing. The service is excellent in my experience. I’ve never had a disc fail to play (as I did with previous disc-by-post services) and discs are despatched very promptly. Returning a disc in Monday’s post nearly always results in your next disc arriving on Wednesday (I.e. as fast as first class can manage).

Which service did you sign up to trial though? The cheapest services doesn’t include 4K.

I always sign up for the most expensive premium service for any free trial and then update before the free trial expires.

Thanks for letting me know - that’s really disappointing. I think the service is really attractive to 4K UHD Blu Ray users so it’s disappointing they don’t allow trialist’s to borrow 4K discs.

I agree.
they should say in advance before you sign up that they don’t allow you to borrow 4K disc on the trial.
Just waiting for them to refund my £1 back to me now.
For what it’s worth I’ve been very impressed with Cinema Paradiso. Discs have always been sent promptly and always played OK. They have a great selection and I’ve no complaints.
