This weekend only, ArenaNet will offer its online role-playing game Guild Wars 2 for a 75-percent markdown from the title's normal price.

The deal will go live this Saturday, January 24, starting at 4 PM UK time / 8 AM USA PDT through the official Guild Wars website. The promotion ends 40 hours later. ( i believe that to be midnight on the the 25th )

The Digital Deluxe version of Guild Wars 2 will also be on sale for 75-percent off this weekend.

****Please Note**** :- the price on the official site will not change to the discount price untill 4PM uk time / 8 am PDT ( Pacific Day Time USA) on Saturday the 24th 2015

I have posted using the UK prices and Dollar prices , as perhaps you can use a VPN/ Hola and set location to USA to purchase in dollars which will save you a few pounds on the UK prices.

UK prices are a bit more expensive than the USA pricing , but i have listed both prices , please note the UK price quoted is not UK pound conversion from USA price , the UK price quoted is the exact amount you will pay when purchasing through the UK store , the USA price is based on hopefully been able to use HOLA / VPN to buy it cheaper by setting your location to USA then purchasing through the USA store as opposed to the UK store.

Based on this link , it appears the you will only be able to use a EU server if you buy direct from the UK store , if you buy the USA version you will be locked to North American Servers

help.guildwars2.com/ent…ons

I will therefore be buying direct from the UK store

I have just purchased Elder scrolls online so with Guild wars 2 as well , thats a whole load of MMO with no monthly charges

Cheers Sul , i have played a fair bit of WOW in the past , but i am not prepared to pay for monthly subs , so this looks to be a great deal to me , i shall be making the purchase , you cannot go wrong at this kind of price , excellent reviews .

How active is this game now? GW1 was active until and still for quite after GW2's release. Not so much now. I didn't like GW2 when I first played because of how much they changed it, but may be ready to give it another go!

Tempting. Are the deluxe extras worth it?

I had a quick look and i am not tempted by the extras .... but may consider if i go VPN as it works out at around 9.99

Just be careful when trying to purchase via VPN, they (the website) have a habit of blocking accounts from purchases if they suspect anything wrong.

Trying to purchase two copies for my girlfriend and I to play last year when it was on sale. Managed to get my girlfriend a copy and couldn't buy another. By the time I had got unblocked from purchasing another copy, the offer was ended. A week later after multiple emails to support I was given a discount code, but by that point the girlfriend had played, and then I'd created a character on her account, and we'd missed that initial exploring the game together.

I'll probably buy it now, for myself, and go back to it. Quite a bit of gameplay for less then the price a month's WoW subscription though.

Thank you for the advice , i have bought Origin games via VPN in the past , but i might just skip all the messing about and buy the standard edition via the UK site for 8.74 , via VPN would be around £6.66 , we shall see

That is the official page where this offer is from.

Before making a character research the server you choose as your "home". Weigh up what is important to you, mates/friends/guild, ping/speed/lag distance to servers, or events & language within game. I played originally on US territory servers even though I am from UK. I kinda regretted it after realising all events in game are actually when I am in bed!. So after the guild I was in became inactive, I decided I would transfer to EU territory servers. (I had to pay to transfer characters from US to EU. The choice is one territory area per account.) On US territory servers you can pretty much say language is always English, on the EU it varies from server to server the density of languages choose carefully & read up.

Great advice, which server is considered as the best for the UK?

I presume once you purchase, when you set the game up for the first time then you choose the server location etc

It looks like a good price but I'm going to feel cheated if its available for $10...

Consider the VPN option, but I imagine the extra UK cost comes from VAT at 20 percent.

good price for a no monthly fee game !

Seems cheap

Not sure if it's a good idea to use a VPN to pay in USD as it seems the keys are region locked?

eg: on nuuvem there is this message:

ATENÇÃO: Conteúdo para ser jogado apenas em Servidores Americanos (US)

ATTENTION: Content to be played only in American Servers (US)

I got the game when it first came out but I've not really played it much as it's no where near as good as the first guild wars but for this price it seems really good

Hi . thank you for your words of wisdom , i might just stick with the UK price , due to me wanting to play on a UK server , so that all the events are more likely to happen during the times of day i will be playing

Just Wondering

It's a wise decision. I Played Everquest 2 on a U.S server and i nearly destroyed me.

I have been tempted to give this a go, purely because they seem like a great company and their model is unique. Subscription based games and F2P just don't seem to work any more.

I watched a few people playing this morning on Twitch , looks like a lot of fun , nice colourful graphics , different enough from my purchase of elderscrolls which is more a dark gloomy look , so i think between the 2 mmo's i get a mega bang for my buck ! with the added benefit of not needing to get my moneys worth every month ,as i tend to play for a few days a month sometimes , during the summer times maybe not at all !!

Yeah, I had been playing F2P Neverwinter for the last 2 years. It was a great game, until they introduced new gear which meant it was possible to buy your way to the top and very difficult to play your way there. Haven't touched it for months as a result.

Yes that does tend to take away the sense of balance in fairness and also in equality amongest the ranks of players , but i guess some form monetization scheme will have to be forth coming , other wise the whole thing is just a online pyramid scheme , that will digitially collapse once the balance of costs is out weighed by a lack of new purchases ! but time will tell ! still cheap enough for now .

Oh man, I just bought ESO and now I'm tempted to pick this up as well.

Can anyone confirm if they'd be any problems if I used an in browser VPN to purchase it? I don't want to buy it, and then be locked out of my key or whatever. If I buy a US key I can pick any region I want anyway, correct? I might want to make a US character to play with friends, but the option for a UK one is always good.

Hi Sparks , well indeed thankfully to your goodself i also purchased the 6.99 Elder scrolls offer , the good thing is as you will know is both are Buy to play , so if you buy it and do not play it much to begin with , it will still be on your system and not costing you any money....based on 6.99 + 8.74 for 2 good MMO's with no monthly subs , its got to be a good purchase !

Plus both games do look a fair bit different in there style and look , both have different pros and cons too , GW2 looks a bit more like wow , bright and colourful , where as ESO is more Skyrim , Dark , Moody and gloomy !!!

Bought GW2 on launch day, didn't like it. Re-installed it last week and loving it! Any new players, don't jump in comparing it to WoW, LOTRO, etc like I did, jump in with an open mind

Based on one of the other posters in this thread , it looks as if ,if you buy via VPN USA then you will be locked to USA servers , so IMHO buy the UK version for 8.74 , USA version would work out at around £6.66 , but USA server events will be more suited to USA times of day when most users will be playing , which is most likey when UK players will be sleeping....

So i am going to plump for the UK store bought edition , its only a couple of quid more expensive and by the looks of things , well worth it....

I enjoyed watching people play it on Twitch today !!

P.S yes i believe once you make a server choice you are locked to that server , i believe there is a cost to move around , before i choose my server i am going to check out the GW2 forums and get some advice on the best English speaking EU Server etc.

Still very active, they changed the system a little while back so that all servers now populate the same PvE maps (megaserver) - this means that you will always see someone around, even on the lower level maps.
For those interested in WvW (a 3 way match up against 2 other servers), check out this web site to see where your 'potential' server sits in the current ranking, it might influence your decision. European Servers match ups. I am on a mid tier server and hardly ever see any queues to play WvW, but there's enough population to get an enjoyable game.

From the looks of it, the keys aren't region locked but your account is. Theoretically, you could by an American key and then just redeem it in Europe and you will have no further problems whatsoever.

For that reason it can sometimes be better for us to use American servers. I was playing ESO last night and I've played FFXI in the past and much of the server chat seems to be in either German or French.

The flags against each of these servers on matchups is still relevant I believe, so, for example, Jade Sea is flagged as french, so will be predominantly french speaking. The EU flags represent the rest of Europe, including UK, and i believe are mainly English speaking in map chat. For example, i am on Aurora Glade, it is mainly English speaking, but also has guilds from Czech and South Africa. It's also worth mentioning that the player base is very friendly (mostly) and willing to help newcomers..

AG is a fun server and everyone is really friendly. WVW is great fun and always looking for more players

This is a fantastic deal, a stupid amount of game for less than nine pounds. Head added.

OK, it would seem that you can use EU servers with a US key if you want to but your account will be permanently stored in the NA data centre (which shouldn't cause too much trouble).

My server short list has just increased by 100 % i shall do some reading up after the gym !

Just going to chime in and say I don't play this religiously but for the content it offers, I think this price is really good value for money.

i picked this up some time ago for £20 and i only dipped in and out of it and i never gone like the way i did in wow but i had a lot fun with it and still do dip in

No sub really helps it with not having that feeling you got to play it to death to get your sub's worth
