On a related note, bought a soup maker a few weeks (an Amazon warehouse Morphy Richards saute and soup maker for a bargainous 45 quid but they are even cheaper now) and totally recommend them! Been busy making loads of superb tasting soups very cheaply and with fresh ingredients. And they form part of your 5 a day, don't forget.

Heat added.

Even though the Morphy Richards was a n Amazon return I've manged to register it on their site for the 2 year warranty so have about 23 months of cover left!.

Have to admit, I've got a little obsessed with soup making Got half a freezer full of the stuff Tried loads of recipes but still come back to the cheapest and easiest to make - carrot and coriander (although i add chilli powder and garlic to give it more of a kick!).

Compared to what you would pay for this quality soup in the shops, these machines should 'pay' for themselves pretty quickly.

34?? Didn't see that! I joined which? on the quid trial before deciding on mine and MR's soup makers basically take up 95% of their best buy recommendations.

Sorry to jump on your comment but you seem knowledgeable and enthusiastic over these and I’ve been considering one... Do these come with recipe ideas in the packaging or have you found your own? And do you mind me asking what it is costing you to make soup (very roughly) so I can try to understand how quickly this might pay for itself. Thank you

Yes 20% off warehouse orders at the minute doesn't show until checkout and has to be Amazon as the seller.

Not so much knowledgeable as enthusiastic The Morphy Richards I got came with a few recipes but they aren't amazing but thank God for Sir Berners-Lee as there are absolutely loads of recipes online specifically for soup maker recipes. The one I've personally found most useful is Lianas kitchen but there are literally hundreds of other sites plus lots of youtube videos. I just print them out for future reference. And don't be afraid to add your own ingredients to suit your taste buds, we love spicy stuff so always add stuff like chilli powder, garlic and masala powder etc.

Rough costs depends on what soup you are making but our favourite is actually one of the cheapest to make (and easiest), Carrot and Coriander. My estimate is the ingredients (uses 800g carrots but we get 1.5kg for 74p from aldi so about 40p). add about 30-40p for the other ingredients (I always use approx 50g of red split lentils to make thick soup, which costs 1.80 for a kg from Tesco so 9p). leccy costs no idea but the programme only lasts 21 mins and I always use boiled water to save the machine having to heat up too much). Ball park figure for 1.6l of soup (equivalent to 4 tins of Heinz) about 75p? But you don't need as much as this soup to fill you as you would with Heinz so i reckon it's really the equivalent of 5 cans! so 15p per portion? Depending on how much soup you consume, the cost savings can soon add up.

That is amazingly helpful. Thank you very much!
Spicy parsnip is one of my faves. Just don't add too much chilli or it blows you head off

Yes, agreed. We like the curried parsnip one at liana's kitchen.

Issue is that we’ve bought 2 of these and both broke after just over 15 months each - developed an electrical fault which keeps tripping the fuses on the circuit. Morphy Richards don’t want to know - they are 100% useless. The machine is great whilst it works.

Interesting - Morphy Richards deny there is any issue with their soup makers but there are several reports on Amazon saying the same and other sites too. Need to go and get this from TK Maxx
