Haggis, neeps and tatties - £4.99 - Wetherspoons burns night week

Found 24th Jan 2012Made hot 24th Jan 2012
'Tis Burns night all week at Wetherspoons, from 23rd January to 27th January. Noticed signs on our local, and the haggis is fantastic for both taste and value. Wetherspons is not anything other cheap reasonable pub grub, but I was very suprised at the quality of this dish at our local! the price, I believe, can vary dependant on where you are, but slightly above or below the £4.99 mark, it isnt bad for something a bit different!

Their site says:

Scotland’s best-loved bard is honoured all over the land on his birthday; at Wetherspoon, you can enjoy a true taste of Scotland at our Burns’ Week celebration.

This year, as well as the traditional haggis, neeps & tatties, you can also enjoy our ever-popular 28-day-matured 10oz rib-eye steak, with a Scottish twist – haggis and Laphroaig sauce. You can wash it all down with a pint of Caledonian 80/- or a glass of Talisker smooth malt whisky.

Reciting Robbie’s poems is entirely optional!

Promotion begins:

And this is a bloody steal, the pint you get with it is worth £3ish so dinner for a quid. I may be going in for lunch later this week, although have a proper burns night to attend first

whatsThePoint

wheres the deal. "meat" doen't come much cheaper than haggis

I don't know...
Bovine, Ovine, Porcine and Equine scrotum has shot up in price recently!

we've recently started going quite regularly go for Sunday Lunch at Wetherspoons in Cambridge. I think they've put alot of recent effort into the quality of their food and its really gone up in my estimation. The service is also very good too.

Not exactly gonna have people breaking down the door to get in with this deal. COLD as scotland for me

Anyone know how much the steak offer is please?

The haggis offer is £4.99 in my local, but we're gonna attempt our own!

We dont need people to pretend they are Scottish, people WISH they were (ahh, its good to be a Scot!)

and why would ppl wanna pretend to be scotish for. see halls are doing a trad scot breakfast pack as well square sausages fruity white pudding black pudding and wee ENGLISH sausages lol.

Well people like pretending to be alcoholic tramps on St Paddys day, so they must really hate Scotland to ignore Burns Night!

Don't bite lads or humour him - he's just living up to the typical stereotype .......

Slainte mhath, especially with that Caley 80/-

I am proud to be Scottish and am glad I am not an ignorant English AH like you.

Haggis is ok. For 4.99 for a meal with a pint it's always a deal. If you don't like Haggis don't vote.

Oh and the talisker is about 2.40 a measure which is good value for a very nive single malt.

Interesting, 16 posts into a thread about something Scottish and no-one's mentioned uni fees yet.

Haggis, while not exactly healthy, is great stuff. I love it on a roll (with salad cream) or stuffed into a chicken breast (balmoral chicken) with a whisky or peppercorn sauce.

This is making me fancy a haggis roll for breakfast tomorrow, yum lol

Damnit, went past today and says £4.99 now! I have a photo of it at £3.99, wonder if they'll honour it

I know it might be sacrilege but does anyone know if Wetherspoons is offering a vegetarian haggis this week? The veggie haggis in Tesco is very nice, but for those of us who fancy a beer and can't be bothered to cook...

Have you ever thought why no one ever celebrates being English. Because they are not worth celebrating perhaps . The whole world loves scotland and its people not so England and the racist comments on here show you why.

I bought mine from ASDA (£1.40 for 454g), tends to be near the sausages. From notken's comment above it sounds like Tesco sell a vegetarian version ... so they may also sell a meat version! Alternatively your local butchers might be worth a try or, in keeping with this deal, Wetherspoons X)

Hmmm... St. Georges day?

Is it true that you celebrate St Georges Day by shaving your head, getting lots of cheap tattoos done, wearing an England shirt and Union Jack boxer shorts, getting drunk on one and a half cans of Stella Artois, blaming the immigrants for everything and shouting "Engerrrrlaaaaaand" at the top of your voice occasionally?

Good deal!!!I'll choose to ignore the ignorant anti-scots comments

And so speaks a TRUE racist!!! If someone who is English slates Scotland, that person is an ass, HOWEVER, the fact that that person is English DOES NOT MEAN ALL ENGLISH PEOPLE ARE THE SAME!!!!

I have encountered an ignorant Scottish person, did I judge all scots on this one encounter, no, I just I had met ONE horrid person who happened to be Scottish FFS!!! Pride in your race is one thing, ignorance and stupidity is another. All you have done is ally yourself with the English idiots you so despise.... well done!!!!

FFS - it's a deal for getting a cheap, half decent meal accompanied by a decent drink for a fiver.

Why not just vote hot or cold on the merits of that rather than descending into the usual xenophobic, racist tripe.

******holes.

PS - Oh aye, nice find - HOT. Slainte

Surely you mean "occh aye"?!?!? Unless you're a northerner (no offence to northerners before they jump on the bandwagon!!)

'Good' haggis is the product of hard working butchers. It tastes nice and fills the stomach.
Racism is the produce of hate-filled ignoramus'. It is never nice and it turns most stomachs. . . .

. . .(and that's ALL racism; anti-Scottish/Irish/English or whatever).

£4.99! Jings, crivvens and, for that matter, help ma boab!

Always makes me laugh when the comments re ofall come out regarding food, like burgers, sausages etc are 100% pure meat

I've never had haggis (never really come across it TBH), from what I've seen when its featured on TV cookery programmes it either looks really nice (rich and brown) or very dodgy (pale and dry) BUT I did used to like Mr Brains Faggots, is it similar?!?!?

Are you referring to the new "Tivoli"? as I'd agree wholeheartedly, very good sunday lunch in there on both occasions of late.

Not exactly your 5 a day, but try shaping it into small pieces. Dry frying and accompanying it with a drambuie & cream sauce.

Sorry, commenting is no longer available on this deal.
