Haig Club Scotch Whisky £19.49 instore @ Waitrose

LocalFound 26th May
Saw this in Waitrose in Holsworthy, had about 12 bottles on the shelf.
I know some people don’t rate it as a drink however this is for those who are interested.
Not sure if it’s nationwide.

Wrong one, that’s the clubman at that price.
Not the best of tipples, but a cracking price if you're nearby
Half of the price has to go to Beck's endorsement
Ok for mixing with Rola cola.

I was thinking its ok to get the coals going..
Just out of curiosity. What is supposed to be wrong with that whisky? Tried it a few times on the rocks and with coke and every time it was really nice. Granted that I'm not whisky connoisseur, but what seems to be the problem with it? (Question to the people commenting above)
This is piss poor mixer whisky in a fancy bottle with a bit of celebrity endorsement. Whats wrong with it? About £10 and the fact it was promoted as a sipper

It’s not undrinkable, but its got nothing about it. No great character or flavour that makes it worth drinking. It’s just a fancy brand advertised by an ex-footballer.

If you drink whisky with a mixer then maybe it is ok, but purely as a whisky I think it is poor.

If you are somebody who does like this, then it is a good price and has to be considered a deal compared to RRP. We can all give an opinion, but it doesn’t mean it is right and you can’t like it yourself

If your mixing with cola, then any reasonable grain whisky will suffice , not one priced like a well aged single malt. For £45 you can buy some very fine malts indeed.

That said it's probably an okay price for a mixer in this deal.

If you enjoy this with Cola then that's all that really matters

I see so many negative comments for this, do people realise that this is not the cheap clubman version?

Which means, according to the web site:

"'Haig Club is a new Single Grain Scotch Whisky with a character and style that sets it apart. Haig Club is designed to be different - from the unique way in which the liquid has been crafted to the distinctive square, blue bottle, to the partnership with global icon David Beckham and British entrepreneur Simon Fuller."

So you are paying for a square blue bottle and Beckham's pension, not for the quality of the whisky.

But it's still cheap grain whisky in the bottle. The fact it was ever priced at £45 does not mean it was ever actually worth that to most.

Don't get blinded by the big discount and the vastly over inflated RRP.

Never tried this version of it, I have had the Clubman one when it was on offer for £15 it was absolute rubbish!

Have seen a single grain whisky at Aldi it was £11.99 or something like that I think, wonder if this is the same as that!
I would go with the Aldi. Their highland black is okay and very well priced.
Muck in a bottle.

Probably, yes. But Beckham will do a sad face if you buy it, and no blue bottle.
Tastes no better than Bells whisky.

Purely a commercial attempt to entice a young drinker into the whisky market.
