don't forget that you are meant to use your air con all year round otherwise it will cause issues and bacteria will grow in the pipes.

Most people think its only for summer but in the winter when you are all steamed up the air con can blow hot air too, it's air-conditioning, so rather than blowing damp air on the windscreen in the winter it will blow conditioned non-damp air around the car. Most new cars have a demist mode which will turn the AC on automatically :o)

Is it cold? if so it's probably fine.

Quite often more than not your filter may need a clean or even replacing usually about a tenner. An easy way to check if it's the pollen filter is to knock off the air con and have it on fans only - if its more powerful then it needs a new filter.

By not using the a/c regularly, the seals within the system become hard & brittle causing the system to leak & fail. You should use it frequently (usually at least once or twice a month) to minimize this risk. Most manufacturers advise a system regas every 2-3 years anyway. For £22.49, it is definitely worth having done, especially if it has never been done before.

It does say in the t&cs that there is a fitting charge, I hope these are standard terms and that the final price will be 22.49?

Hi. These are standard terms & conditions and we are trying to sort the bug about ticking about t's & c's before you have read them - thanks for the feedback. There is no additional "fitting charge" on the air con recharge

ATS are complete rip off merchants.

I took my car to them a few years ago for a "FREE" brake test. They did the test and then told me that my brakes were dangerous and could fail on me at any moment but if i booked the car in they would sort it out for me. No thanks i said, as i was out of work at the time and couldnt afford it. They then tried to charge me for the free test and all hell broke loose. After about 20 mins arguing i left without paying but have never been back and never will again.

A few weeks later i got someone else to look at the brakes and was told they were perfectly ok and 6 months later they sailed through an MOT but according to ATS i was risking life and limb.

I've had friends fall foul of their tyre scam too.

Dont be suprised if they find something wrong with your air-con when you go in for this deal that they will have to charge you to fix on top of the price of this "deal".

I've printed off the voucher as instructed by the garage, does this mean I'm part of a lottery because the online function didn't work?

If you have booked it, we will honour it, don't worry!

Most problems with air con are due to people who don't use it, then in the sweltering summer heat expect it to magically work.

The blokes down there were friendly, efficient and helpful and did exactly as promised.Showed me the test report when finished and fully explained what it all meant, i.e. how much gas and oil was vacuumed from the system, how the pressure / vacuum test tested for leaks and then how much oil, UV additive and gas they put back in.Net result for me was they removed 48g of refrigerant and 4cc of oil but put back in 470g and 10cc's. AC is now much cooler.ATS if you are reading this still, some comments:1. This is a great offer, but it was badly thought out with the "first 500 people" element.... it automatically makes people think "they are trying it on, i'll get there and they will magically have just had the 500th person in before me. Better bet would be to only give out 500 vouchers so that everyone who gets one knows they will get the offer. As it worked out you promised that everyone who had the voucher would get the offer, but only after mass panic / suspicion and your subsequent clarification on here.2. The service from the guys in Rugeley was very good and I would highly recommend them to anyone else. However the garage itself is looking very worse for wear... get your hand in your pocket and get these guys a nice new buildings or at least a major refit of the current ones.

Thank you for your comments. They will get passed on, as will all the comments made about this offer

A Main Dealer will almost certainly call-in or send it to a specialist - and then tack-on a chunk of money for doing nothing - does that answer your question??

You can't do it yourself as you can't buy the refridgerant gas without a license I believe!

This is a good deal. Halfords sell a kit £20 for the gauge and £35 for the gas bottle (which you can take back for a £10 refund when empty).
It really is easy to do yourself, it's like filling a tyre, just DON'T try and connect the valve to the High side (marked "H") of the system, only the LOW side! (Marked "L"
So Halfords £45 and do it yourself or ATS. However with a DIY kit you may be able to charge 2 or maybe 3 cars depending on how much of a recharge it needed. Mine was so low it wouldn't even turn on as the pressure was too low, only took about half a can to get it to correct pressure. Now it works great, it's a 1998 car too!

My nearest ATS that is capable of doing this is a 36 mile round trip away, none of my local ones do Air Con recharges.

    How useless is that ?:(

For £22.49 this is a great deal and probably best BUT if you do want to do it yourself then Halfords does a kit (end cost around £45) which can do this (and also another car or 2) It's quite simply and there's YouTube video showing how to do it easily. The manufacturers website is also good & you can find where to connect it to your car on their site.

I've used it and after a little trial & error worked fine but be careful not to overfill (don't use more then half the can... Stop and check as half can should be sufficient for a car) Ideally leave it a while after doing it and then re-check pressure.. mine said OK whilst doing it and then hour later when I rechecked it showed overfilled ! (had to take it out using same adapter without can attached)

sealed f-gas systems will lose anything up to 10% of their load capacity … sealed f-gas systems will lose anything up to 10% of their load capacity a year. will they still work? yes. will they blow cold? yes. will it cool your car down? yes. however it won't do it as quickly or efficiently. it'll take a lot longer and use more petrol up to bring the temp down.

So it would take seven years for a vehicle system refrigerant charge to drop below artbitary 50% ?
Would say more likely to be 15yrs+ and suspect realistically likely to be much longer, but I am no automotive expert.

Printed the voucher and took it to ATS in Heaton, Newcastle at lunchtime. 45mins later my air-con was frosty and my wallet was £22.49 lighter. Friendly, quick and cheap. Can't really ask for better can you?

To be honest its alright if you have a newer car but everytime i have seen anything done over about 5 years old something is faulty with the system and a recharge does nothing but waste money. Leaking pipes, seals, broken mechanicals, solenoids etc etc.

You are far better off taking it to a specialist. This sounds like a bargain, but unless you car is new and you know the system is just discharged you wil be wasting your cash because you'll need repairs before you re gas.

I would estimate at least half the cars over 5 years old have some sort of air con faults that i see

Fair play for the assurances given on here, but if they limited the web form to 500 vouchers they wouldn't be able to capture every hopeful applicant's name, postcode, email address, date of birth, and Data Protection consent for future direct marketing campaigns. All these things are done for a reason...
