a bit fishy, a whole lot fishy if you ask me :w00t:

you canny beat a bit o haddock

What is their fish like ?

I know that they make a BIG play about it being fresh rather than frozen and thawed out but I have never been tempted to buy any. Have had a good look at it and it is all nicely laid out on ice - they even had a whole squid - but there is something stops me buying it. Anyone else have this feeling?

I tend to buy frozen fish at Marks and Sparks which is a bit pricey but am I missing out by avoiding the fresh fish counter at good old Morrisons?

err fresh fish and frozen fish:thinking:

grey matter

I am gonna buy it next time I am in. Love haddock.

Frozen fish is still very good for you. Don't know if it is still the same nutritional value though. .

Are these the ones that turn and sing?

Morrisons is definitey teh best of the supermarkets when it comes to fish in store.

I agree.

awww cod, another fish deal, that plaice is full of em! will trawl through :whistling: & grab another bargain this week (the salmon was superb last week:thumbsup:)

It does'nt start till Tuesday in my store

Not in Bath store today, but sugar was 2 one kilo bags for £1.50. Not a huge saving, but always worth stocking up on basics when reduced.

Anyone know if they've got crabs ? :whistling:

Haddock in Beer Batter

Serves 4

225g plain flour
Freshly ground salt and pepper
300ml lager or brown ale
1 egg, separated
4 pieces fresh haddock, 175g each
Oil to deep-fry

1 Place the flour in a bowl and season with salt and pepper. Make a well in the centre and add the beer and egg yolk. Gradually whisk together until you have a smooth batter. Leave to rest for 30 minutes.
2 Whisk the egg white until it forms stiff peaks. Stir 100ml of very cold water into the batter and fold in the egg whites.
3 Ensure the haddock has all the bones removed and is dry. Dust with a little flour.
4 Heat the oil until it reaches 180C. Hold the fish by the tail and dip into the batter. Drop into the hot oil and cook for 4-8 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fish (you’ll need to cook them one at a time if using a small fryer). Remove and drain on kitchen paper. Keep warm in a low oven while you fry the other fish. Serve with pease pudding and lemon wedges.

Many thanks to Gordon Ramsay

If the Salmon is also on offer, then buy both and make a fish pie

Milk,cheese,eggs,potatoes and fish

Eh voila!

Plaice is on offer at tesco this week Half price:thumbsup:

HYas anyone tried Basa..

Basa
The Basa fish - Pangasius Hypopthalmus, is a type of catfish in the family Pangasiidae.

Basa are native to the Mekong River Delta in Vietnam and Chao Phraya basin.

Basa is now farmed in large quantities. It is the most popular fish in Vietnam and consumed in increasing quantities around the world.

The body of a Basa fish is stout and heavy. The rounded head is broader than it is long, the blunt snout having a white band on its muzzle.

Basa fish can be found in large rivers, in rapids and in deep, slower reaches.

Basa fish feed on plants. These fish spawn at the onset of the rainy season.

It is white, pinkish and is available year round. Basa is a tender, mild and fine-flaked fish.

I just knew someone would say that.

]eeuurgh

You could say this is one hell of a catch! Hohohhaa!

Has anyone tried Basa..

Yes, we have.

We bought it when on offer at Sainsbury's about a year ago, liked it very much, and have since bought more.

It's a cheap, tasty fish, usually sold as fillets.

Besides fresh basa, you can get bags of frozen fillets, which make an excellent stand-by in the freezer. Easiest thing in the world to cook.

Basa might suit people who don't like a "fishy" smell. Raw basa doesn't seem to have the same smell as sea fish.

By the way, there is a TV programme saying that some crafty fish-and-chip shops are deep-frying battered cheap basa, and selling it as cod! Seems people can't tell the difference, which perhaps is an endorsement of how nice it tastes.

Go for it!

Try 2tablespoons of Flour with 1 tablespoon of custard powder, only add enough water to coat your finger when dipped in. This is the crispiest batter mix I have ever tried mmmmmmmmmmm!!!! Lovely
