HALF PRICE Outwell Montana Tent £299 @ CrossCamping

Bound to go cold from the people who bought a 6 man tent for £50 from Tesco but for camping connoisseurs here you go. These will shift pretty fast IMHO.

These are 'promotional tents' so check the description on the website for full details. They are listed as brand new but have some 'promotional text' on them.

The tent in your pic is a Montana 6P.

That's a good price for a Montana.
Have a similar Outwell tent and they're really well made.

Correct. That's the tent in the description too.

great find was looking myself -late posting as usual

Overpriced for a tent! I got a Gelert 6 man tent for just under £50 last year.

I have one of these. Great tent. Perfect for family of 4.

They are very very different. I know which one I'd be happier in in heavy rain and wind. Do some proper research.

Quite, our Outwell stood up to a proper West Wales coastal storm a couple of years ago that left several other tents in the campsite destroyed.

its not the same as the pic on the selling website though - and i cant see the 6P (premium) in the blurb

This tent is in NO WAY close to the £50 tent you got from Tesco's! Sorry. I'm off camping tomorrow, and if I had the money I'd have one of these to add to my collection. The difference between this and the one you paid £50 for is years of good service and the rainwater!

Also, to add, these tents have promotional writing in the actual tents!! If you don't mind this then they're a bargain! Again, promotional writing ON THE TENT, IT IS NOT REMOVABLE AND COULD BE LARGE.

Be aware people, this isn't a Montana 6P. This uses Outtex 3000 fabric, the 6P uses Outtex 5000 fabric as well as having corner windows. 'P' stands for Premium, not Promo.

Simply pointing out if you're looking for a Montana 6P, this isn't it. Here's the link to the 6P:

xlgaz are you saying this tent is inferior? i was going to buy it until i read your comment

Its a lower spec than the 6p but is still a good tent. Also the seller is very well known.

I have a Montana Lake tent as our holiday tent and it is a cracker.

Actually this is am old tent from 2010, I'd not buy this tbh.

Yes inferior, check out the link and see for yourself. I paid £307 for a Montana 6P so the price isn't even great. It should be priced as an ex-display as it's intended as a display model with retail writing on it, whether it's been installed instore or not. This is a Montana 6 Deluxe but using a lesser Outtex 3000 fabric than the current Montana 6 which uses Outtex 4000.

I camped several years in a row in large Gelert tents (couple of hundred ££ years ago, so not cheapies), and it was a different one each year due to the fact each one leaked in heavy rain (leading to several nights in the car) and was exchanged after the holiday for the replacement. In the end the only one that didn't leak was a much smaller 3-man tent. I'm therefore not inclined to trust the Gelert tents!

The large 6-man (allegedly) tent I have now does seem waterproof, though not that sturdy, and only cost £20. However the difference is that was a sale and that was all I was able to pay. It's the difference between the 2-man Tesco tent I also bought, for £5, and the much larger sum a friend spent on a 2-man Vango; I certainly know which was the better tent. Price does not equal value, so if this is indeed half the normal cost of an exceptional tent, then it sounds a good deal despite being much more than you'd pay for a supermarket brand.

Not voted either way as I don't know much about the higher end of the brand market, I only know that cheap tents (and Gelert) are pretty inconsistent as to whether or not you actually stay dry. Therefore if you can, I'd say it'd be worth spending extra for a reliable brand, whether this one is or whether another is more appropriate. After all, if it rains and everything inside is drenched due to a leaky tent, it can make a holiday pretty miserable.

Image changed. They looked the same to me at first glance but if you get out the microscope you can see a few differences.

I got 2 of those from Tesco. The first only had half the ropes stitched on, the second blew away.... should of seen the guys face as I went back to Tesco armed with just a rope and my reciept. Still got a refund though!

Not in the same class at all - Hot!

Do gelert make tents I thought they made shower cubicles;)

you really do get what you pay for with tents. If you're not planning on camping with any kind of rain forecast, then a Gelert or cheaper tent will be fine, but our great British weather is so unpredictable, & its a miserable existence/experience getting caught out in a downpour with a leaking tent, especially in the middle of the night

Outwell tents are awesome. We've got a Kansas 5 that's lasted 4 years of heavy use.

Cheaper tents like Gelert, Vango etc are fine if you're taking them to a festival and don't mind it getting trashed but if you want something that's going to last and keep you dry, you're better off paying extra.

Nice deal OP. heated.

Had one of these for over 5 years now. IMO these are the best tents you can buy for stability and durability. I'm able to compare this tent with other makes i.e. Gelert, Vango etc as we have a couple of their 6 berth models as well.

Pro - Once up it is rock solid. Water tight and warm enough in cold weather and cool enough in the sun (that doesn't happen often though). A good amount of windows and generous sleeping compartments for a family of four. We bought ours with a carpet, a foot print and a front porch. When it's up it's like a mini house. Sewn in ground sheet stops draughts and bugs nicely.

Con - It's heavy and it's big. The bag will half fill a medium sectors cars boot alone. It'll also take 2 to 3 people to put it up as the poles are solid and heavy. But you'll get quicker with practise.

We use the Outwell as a weeks stay tent and a Gelert as weekend break tents as they are lighter and quicker to put up.

For the price this tent is a bargain. Heat added.

Camping in Wales last year we went through a massive storm with force eight winds, loads of tents around suffered damage and a few were completely destroyed.

My Outwell and the three other Outwells on the site were all rock solid, I had no leaks and the only water that got in was from a slight flooding of the site. Amazing tents and worth every penny.

has anyone recieved their tent yet, im interested to know how the promo text looks please

I have received mine but haven't checked it out. The company were a pleasure to deal with tho. trouble is I may not actually check it out until next year.

If you follow the link and scroll down the page - there is an embedded video showing an example of the kind of promotional writing to expect.......

I think the promo stuff looks quite cool; almost like you're showing off all of the features yours has over other people's crap ones.

I would be a little concerned about how long they have already been up and whether they have faded or not.

Does anyone know if it has a zip in groundsheet?

Only 2 left people!

Only 1 left now...

For anyone who bought one of these I would put it up. Turns out Outwell sent cross Camping the wrong poles, subsequently it won't go up properly, they are sourcing me new poles and have been absolutely superb about the whole thing.

Definitely worth putting it up and checking

For "anyone" with a new tent.....please put it up first at home before arriving at the campsite. Check it's all there and for practice!
The amount of arguments and tantrums I've witnessed from couples and families trying to put up a new tent for the first time in failing light or rain on site. Quite entertaining actually X)
