Not voting either way but a proper wok is only about £8 plus a quid for some decent scrubbing pad to season it, I've been using the same London wok for ten years.
Tefal I bet not though.
Sweet!

Are you trying to suggest tefal is a good brand? The coatings on these type of pans are not good for you.

Alot of people have been commenting this, do you have any sources?(Just out of curosity)
These are VERY GOOD! ( I have 2, bought for £8 each a while ago- so this isn't really the best price for them... ) they heat up really quickly, and saute everything really nicely , I do my main cooking in these - If you want to, you don't even have to use oil with these. I'm still on the first one a year later, use wooden spatulas + Don't burn them or wash them directly while they are still hot and they will last for a long time..

These have about 3.5litre capacity ( water pour-in test)

It's not a good brand, neither is a bad one, It's just OK if you don't want to spend 4-5x more to get something better.

Yes the TEFLON sucks...be gentle with it however and it's ok , once you start to see even 1 bit coming off - throw it out and get the next one.

At 280 degree, it release perfluorinated chemicals, which are also toxic to the lungs. apparently that's the only danger.
I have this one and use it almost everyday, love it.
I used to think Tefal was a quality brand. They're good but there's a reason that their products are now relatively cheap in supermarkets - these Tefal pans don't last much longer than a few years unfortunately. I've had several over the years and they won't last you as long as an expensive pan.

The maximum temperature is disappointing on these though, the material they are made of stops them from getting super hot (hot enough to properly sear (not seal) a meat or a steak, or hot as in 'smoking wok hot' is simply not possible with these). Of course this is fine for everyday cooking and I am not for a second suggesting they don't get hot. But those that cook for a living will notice the huge difference in max temp of the pans.

Buy a proper steel wok from your local Chinese supermarket. It will not have any non-stick coating on it. It'll be ridiculously cheap, even for a good, chunky one.

Then, assuming that you buy takeaways often enough, ask your local Chinese if they'll keep and use it for a week. In return, either pay them or buy a takeaway each night from them.

When you get it back, nothing will ever stick to it. Yes, you can use metal implements in them and even use a metal scourer on it if you wanted.

Please ignore the urban myth about never washing a wok. Maybe that's true if it's in constant use because you're a Beijing street food vendor, but otherwise wash it as normal and after rinsing any detergent off, the secret it to put it back on the hob to make sure it's fully dry. At that time, add a touch of oil and heat real hot. Rice Bran oil is good or another with high smoke point (Google). Once cooled, wipe over with a paper towel and it won't rust.

My Chinese ex did mine for me about 15 years ago and it is still the mutts nuts!

Any like this, you can choose round or flat bottom, I prefer round as I cool with gas but if you cook with electric hob then flat would be better.

They are cheaper from local Asian supermarkets though, usually around £8.

You then need to season it, which involves scrubbing all the coating off, then heating and cooling it with oil. Once this is done they are amazing.

A £12.50 pan that lasts a few years sounds pretty good to me. Thanks for the recommendation.

Thank you both! I currently have a Tefal stir fry pan but when the finish starts to rub off i'm definitely going to replace it with a wok like this and do it properly!

This is one thing that HUKD really excels on - people with decent knowledge on a subject offering specific advice from a product - that is hard to gain in real life!

Thanks again
Picked one up, thanks
We also bought a stone Salter Wok for £14, it’s excellent
