Fabulous deal - if only I could get there! Thanks

Although not in the 'offer' specifically, their brussel sprout spikes are back down to £1 each too. They keep better than the bagged ones.

I can vouch for the asparagus being a good offer, 350g is a really substantial bunch. I had a fair few come through the till yesterday.

Italian Chestnuts 500g bag £1.99 Lidl
1KG bag sprouts 79p Lidl.

Parsnips & carrots are fab, got them roasting in the oven now!

Thank god I have an Aldi close by - I never buy fruit and veg anymore from the rip off merchants!

i hear they're cheapest on x-mas eve.

I'm waiting to see what Aldi has for their super 6 this coming week

All cheaper in Lidl and Aldi if you can get to either, can't remember the last time I bought any fruit or veg from a main supermarket!

Well, if you want to argue, they're probably cheapest at the greengrocers..

However, if you shop at sainsburys these are good prices. Though I wouldn't waste your pennies on woody out of season asparagus from god knows where - stick to our cracking root veg from blighty that thrive in this freezing weather!

Nobody is arguing here - believe me I would rather go to a local greengrocer or market if we had any left!

The facts of the matter are that Sainsburys and the rest of their ilk have ensured and continue to ensure that they and their shareholders thrive and the everyone else is crushed.

Your comment about product quality is just the sort of comment i'd expect from the mass of obedient British consumers that populate Sainsburys/Tescos etc till queues.

I still frequent Sainsburys for certain things but I consider myself fortunate to have an Aldi just 2 mins away to get fruit/veg etc. I wince at the Sainsburys trolleys full of overpriced product lining the pockets of their CEO and shareholders.

Wow... harsh. Truth is asparagus will be woody and tasteless at this time of year, and will have to have been flown from abroad. Much better to gorge yourself in the 6 weeks it's readily available in the UK.

As for greengrocers, our town is lucky enough to have greengrocers, farm shops and 3 markets a week, so there is alternatives. However, sometimes you're in the supermarket and need one thing...
