read the bit in the small print about new discs

you get nothing for free
I bet this won't include labour costs. Or, if it does, you'd have to pay indirectly for everything else brake related.
They refused to honour mine as I had my discs changed elsewhere, don't see why they should get my money for discs when they quoted £224 and another similar chain replaced them for £82!
Not worth the paper it's written on. Read the small print, any work found to be required must be undertaken by Halfords to keep the brakes for life offer. They will also say you need disc when you don't like what happened to me. Had brakes for life let it expire as wasn't what it seemed.
The one and only time I let Halfords Auto centre staff near my car brakes they completely buggered them; forgot to tighten down some screws and they came loose about 2 miles form the centre and jammed (doing a lot of damage).
They wouldnt even arranged a tow truck to recover my car - and it took them a further 2 weeks to get the car back to a semi-working condition. I had to take it somewhere else to get it fixed properly.

I should really have known better than to trust them, I left them fit brakes to my bike, and they fell off then first time I needed to use them (within 100m of the store), causing me to crash into the side of a van at a fair clip.
I’ve got this, never had a problem. Transferred now to 2 other motors as well. Couldn’t comment on the disks to be honest. I had mine changed by them as well as there also for life. Even if it costs more future saving etc
Stay away from these fast fit places, a good small garage will always be far cheaper, reminds me of the time a mate taken his old banger in to kwick fit to get a "free " brake check. It cost him £400 as they wouldnt put it back together until he paid!! Said its unsafe so you cant drive it out garage , talk about a gun to your head.. l think at the time the £400 it was worth more than the car.
l have avoided these places ever since!

Hi,

I need to replace my pads in very near future. I was offered this at Halfords when they done some work on my car through insurance and didn't had any problems, second time by the way. Probably depends from the garage.
Anyone can recommend any alternative, and what are prices for pads nowadays? Skoda, Superb?
Thanks

Kwik fit are thieves . The manager gets commission for any work done by them. But Halfords have been good with me.

The memo in the branches goes like "rip em off so the first pair costs the earth"
I wouldn't trust Halfords with my brakes. Just look at the image, looks like they've left the caliper dangling via its brake hose. That's a big no-no ;).

Halfords sell a good range of Spanners and seem to employ a good range of Spanners

Good spot. Have some fun with it, tweet them and watch the squirm.

I’ll not use fast fit centres unless it’s for a tyre, even then I must be desperate or an emergency.
Some really bad stories here, sounds like I’ve been very lucky with the garage I use. I went into my local the other day to have brakes checked as they were making a noise. The guy had a look then he got me into the garage to show me. Down to rear disks being worn and slightly corroded. Could of tried to seriously scam me, but he didn’t he was honest and said that if I could put up with the noise they still had plenty of life in them.
I bought brakes for life. When I changed cars I went in to ask them to transfer it over. They said they would do it and they never did which I found out when I needed new brakes recently.

Total rip off

When you transfer it over you get a receipt.
I had mine done, I get my brakes checked all the time. (for free) If they get low they change them for free. If you are stupid enough to let your brakes get that low, they damage you disks, that's on you I have had mine on since last service (a year ago) , I don't exactly drive slow. I had them checked 2 weeks ago, when it went through it's MOT. The brakes were on around 85 %.

I don’t know if the disk comment was aimed at me. But the new motor I brought had knackered disks when I brought it. A lot of people on here putting hate on Halfords auto centres, but you could go to any garage and have the same problems. The garage is only as good as the people they employ.

No Not at All mate!!. I was just saying that people in general, should never let there brakes get that low. I agree with what you say. I had a bad experience with another big place. They made a right mess of my discs, when they managed to somehow, fit the pads wrong. In the end they changed all the pads and discs for free. Which is why I go to big/ well known places, now. Everyone will make mistakes at some point. I just feel it's easier to get them rectified when it's a bigger place, rather than a small garage
Stay away from Halford Auto centres. Went there couple of years ago with screw in the tyre. Nobody was working on the ramps and two people were chatting in the office. They told me they are extremely busy and can book the car for tyre fix after 5 days!?! Can you believe this! The tyre was not even for change with new one.It was only one screw in good condition tyre. Next small tyre changing place and 5 min work and the tyre was back on my car.
Next time I went there to buy two tyres and they refused to accept Halfords 50£ gift card.Aparently Halfords gift card is just for Halfords but not for Halfords Autocentre.I always believed they are the same company.
Cant trust these clowns even to top up my washer fluid.
