How do you get 20% and 10%?

There is an existing 20% off some bikes which is shown in the price and then a further 10% off at the checkout.
Looks like they increased the price on the Victoria Pendleton ebike it was £650 last time I looked now £750
Bizango for £468 and then £422 with British cycling extra 10% off. Think I’m finally going to get one.

Already discounted. Any voucher codes or cashback?
Wow some fantastic deals there on what were already very competitive bikes at their original prices for most models. Subway 1 for £216 minus 3% cashback at topcashback brings it down to less than £210.

Zeek gift cards. We bought our sons bike yesterday using them. 8% off the price of the gift cards then £5 off if it's your first order. I also then referred my wife so I got £10 credit and she got £5 off. So in total we got £20 off and saved 8% on the cost of the gift cards.

Halfords are a local bike shop, they provide all the normal facilities of a local bike shop, it's just the UK's largest chain of cycling shops especially when you add cycle republic to the mix. They do assembly, maintenance etc and when people buy children's bikes they will set them up for the customers. I don't think Halfords should be compared to online box shifters or department store or supermarket bikes. Not only that but if you move around the country there is always a Halfords store nearby. As a UK company and a direct importer of bikes more money stays in the UK compared to US or European brands sold in local bike shops so may help our trade deficit buying a £300 bike in Halfords compared to a £500 bike in a local bike shop where maybe 10% of the bikes price goes to Europe or the US in addition to the money going to China to pay for the manufacture of the bike. UK is running a large trade deficit and many essential services are under threat like the NHS as we build up more debt and shrink the money in our economy. So for many reasons I see Halfords as a positive, provides cheap bikes safe for children is one of the biggest positives for me. Ultimately though its one of the best sources of decent strong cheap bikes which is why people come to this German forum to find great deals in the UK.
That's a kick in the teeth!...spent £260 the end of last week. We can both play at this...I promise to never buy anything again at Halfords. There I feel better now!

No, This one as the other folds to the wrong dimensions for my boot and is a bit heavier.

Yes Halfords pricing is a roller coaster ride, I know it annoys many people. Knowing when to buy to get the best price is difficult. I would think to get at least 20% of their normal full price but as we see today 30% is possible if you wait.

It’s been down to £500 a couple of times.
Boardman carbon road for 720 is nice deal plus if you get cycle to work scheme is a pretty nice offer
Ordered a child's bike yesterday and saw a sign outside Halfords saying extra 10% off of ALL bikes, not just adult. Went in and they added the 10% discount to my order.
Are Cycle Republic anything to do with Halfords?? They also have the Bizango at 20% off to £520 plus today only an extra 10% off. There's also a £15 off your 1st order.

I find the service in my local independent bike shop to be far superior to the "couldn't give a toss" attitude of the nearby Halfords.
If Halfords were to fold, I wouldn't cry about it - it certainly wouldn't affect our trade deficit by more than a microscopic amount

So I'm after a hybrid bike. I was going to buy second hand but with all these discounts I started thinking about the Carrera Subway 1.
Am I right in thinking that if I order it for 216 pounds now, I can then pay in zeek vouchers in store which would bring price to about 200 pounds?

I started to look for bikes... yesterday, so it's not a very well thought through decision. Therefore, question to those who know a thing or two about bikes. Is this bike good enough for the money?

Same company. Same products. Cycle republic only stock the bike stuff while halfords have car supplies too, apparently it'd take too much space to operate a full halfords in a city centre but cycle republic can squeeze in.

The Subway 1's a pretty solid bike, definitely worth the money. Use it to gain knowledge and experience on bikes and biking. If you decide to replace it in a years time you'll be in a much better position to buy used or simply to know what you're looking for in your next bike.

Yeah Halfords have that reputation for some of their stores. Of those I've tried it has always been very good. Poor service can be said of independent cycle shops and many other large chains like Go Outdoors, Evans and Decathlon. You often hear of complaints across many cycle shops basically. Halfords are the biggest chain in the UK with the most stores and have a huge chunk of the UK cycle market. Looks to be 24% in 2016 but upto 27% in 2017 going by another site. If thats by value rather than bike quantity with Halfords tending to be lower cost bikes than independent shops that is a considerable percentage of bikes sold in the UK maybe far more than 24% would indicate at face value. My point is with very few bike recalls too effecting their models too compared to major brands they must be doing something right. None of my local independent bike shops are particularly friendly except the excellent Ralph Colmans in Taunton but I'm 30 miles away in Yeovil. I'm just making the point for some Halfords may be the best local cycle shop for them as many local cycle shops now specialise in higher price point bikes and don't cater at all for entry level bikes.

I've witnessed in the past customers who have gone into such independent shops with a budget of £500 and the salesman try to push their budget higher suggesting finance etc. I know on face value there is nothing wrong with that as he is a salesman but makes me uncomfortable. I have no idea how it concluded but personally I would have left the shop fairly quickly. I'd probably be a rubbish salesman but I would have instinctively worked with their budget if that is what they were comfortable to spend. In this scenario I have found Halfords staff more relaxed about what they are selling and less likely to upsell. Not that they have that many premium bikes to upsell anyway.

Choose bike for click collect, then go to the store tomorrow and pay for it with the voucher that you print at work. Don't know how it works out there but for me it takes 5 minutes to sort out the voucher and can do it online anytime (I did in the morning, booked the bike and tomorrow I'll print and go to Halfords)

Not that quick for me unfortunately. I have to “request” a voucher
Reserved a Carrera Crossfire 2 (lady's bike) for £296 after 10% discount, and went to Halfords to collect but found it for £264 in store.
Needless to say, I paid £264
Lesson: Don't be fooled by the 20% and 10% discounts, after price increase of 20% and 10%.
