Seems like fair value (although it's frequently hovering around this price), but after I saw a friends there's no way I would get under any vehicle with this supporting the weight.

If you use the axle stands which are more than adequate you would be pretty safe. Never trust a jack on it's own, I've had a cheap jack bend. Fortunately I was using axle stands.

They don't all seem that happy...

"I should have read the reviews before making the purchase. The jack is awful, works well however it doesn't lift the car high enough to put the axle stands on, even at their lowest setting!!!! What is the point in that??"

"The axle stands have 3 height settings: 30cm, 35cm and 40cm. The jack has a maximum lift of 34cm. Can you see the problem here?
You can only lift the car onto the lowest setting!
On my vehicle (2009 Toyota), the 30cm setting doesn't even get the wheels off the ground, let alone allow me to slide around underneath the car on the creeper.
Check the specs for yourself before you waste your time and money!"

"I'm not the usual moaner you read in these reviews, in fact I rarely take the time to review anything good or bad, however this kit is no good for working actually under the car as it would suggest in the supporting material and quoted "The Halfords 5 piece Lifting Kit provides the products you will need for under car maintenance." the jack does not allow the car to raise above the first notch on the stands, at this height you can just slide under the car but not on the supplied dolly [I'm not particularly portly either]. You could use 'chocks' in conjunction with the jack but this isn't considered safe practice and you'd struggle to each the second Axel stand point. So in short, an excellent kit for safe wheel changes and very useful to swap onto winter wheels etc safely, but no good for under car works. Buy ramps instead."

"I bought this last week as I wanted to do service on my Mondeo, as I jacked the car the trolley jack started to slip and it couldn't jack it up properly as it was light itself so it ended up broken"

"I brought this as I had leant mine to a friend but need it . For the money I didn’t expect much but the jack isn’t capable of lifting the car high enough to use the axel stands on the lowest setting so had to get a different jack. So it was a waste of money"

"I bought this kit in Dec 2016. It was being sold for £40.
All the items in the kit are rather small and average quality. Perfectly reasonable for £40 but I dont think you'll be happy if you pay the current asking price of £75. My advice is make sure you get a very good look and feel before parting with you hard-earned."

"The jack would not lift my car from the ground even thought it was a 2 tone jack what is more than sufficient to do so. The Padded Car Creeper wheels are very bad quality and started to brake on the first use. The only good thing about this product was the stands seam to be what you would expect. Generaly I would not recommend this product down to its lack of quality it's just not up for the job."

"Bought for repairing my exhaust. Jack will only lift high enough to allow the first position of the axel stands to be used which is too low to allow under car work or to change the wheel. Had to revert to the supplied scissor jack for height. Axel stands are good but the chocks are only ok. Creeper was ok, cheaply made but adequate for the occasional DIY'er and why the cheaply made supplied wheel wrench? perhaps added as an after thought."

"The Jack is cheaply made and doesn't lift very high.
The chocks move around, not ideal!
The roller board is OK, my niece enjoyed scooting around the empty garage on it!
The Axle stands are good, the best bit of the kit.
There's a wheelbrace, don't know why as it's not needed for any of the other things in the kit."

"Good value for money BUT!!!! The jack is small and has such a short lifting height it is very hard to use and wouldn't jack up my punto using std jacking points!"

"I'd only reccomend this kit for working on vehicle in a garage with a perfectly flat floor, the jack barely got the wheels off the ground on my car and the axle stands are pretty short too which barely gives you spannering room.
The trolley has a set of dome headed screws in the middle which drag on the floor if you cross even the smallest indentation in the floor, unsurprisingly this makes maneuvering in and out from under the car difficult"

"It's not a high quality tool. you also need to buy a plastic pad separately to avoid damage under surface of your car."

"I brought this kit for the very thing it says it does - to lift my vehicle and work underneath it safely. Very disappointed. Trolley jack only lifts high enough for the first setting of the Axle stands which isn't enough to get under my standard VW Golf making the whole product pointless! How can you bundle a trolley jack that isn't high enough for the axle stands it comes with???!!! I'll be looking for a refund as it is unfit for purpose"

That's just a few of the less than happy reviewers on Halfords webiste, if you check motoring forums you will also see many saying to stay clear of this kit. Obviously, there are positive comments too, but I presume that many leaving these reviews are basing the praise on the price or don't know what a quality/safe or fit for purpose tool looks like. Up to you folks, but if you can have a look at a set instore first, my friend took his back for a refund.

i agree with Norse

this is it's usual price. its not terrible for the price but it's not a great deal.

I've owned this for about 6 years now.

To date the jack has lifted:

Toyota Estima (2 tons)
Rover 45 (made of cardboard)
Citroën C4 GP (made of foil)
Seat Arosa (toy car)
Renault Espace
Chrysler Grand Voyager (very heavy)

All of those have been lifted onto the axle stands on ALL of the different heights. The only thing that hasn't lasted so well is the chocks but that's because I forgot about them & ran them over, they still work tho.

I can't say if quality has changed in that time but all I can say is the quality of my set is superb & still going strong

Oh and if you jack on a structural point there's no need for any pads, happily lifted my cars with no damage that way.
