On offer again, brilliant sets for the money, the only reason I'm not getting one is I have one from about 10 years ago and although this has more bits, mine is still going very strong so can't really justify it.

Remember to scan your receipt to computer/cloud storage for the lifetime guarantee.

This is a top kit I have this set and for 99% of the jobs on my car this is the only thing I use. Very good quality. Don't forget to keep the receipt for the Gtee.
Really good value well spotted.

Just had an email from Quidco:-

For a limited time only...earn 10% cashback when you shop in-store at Halfords

Activate our offer online or via our app and purchase in-store with a registered card before midnight, 4 June to take advantage of this extra-special rate.

These days not sure there is much need for the imperial sizes unless you are working on old classic vehicles. My halfords set has been great but half of it is unused.

Great bit of kit, but it is always on offer!

I bought this set some 10 years ago and it was the same price. Never has been sold at full price.
Great bit of kit and well worth the money..

It's generally at the higher price, but those in the know, know to wait till they put the regular half price offers on. Which they do on socket sets.

Is it a must that you have the receipt for the lifetime guarantee with this being a Halfords branded product? I have no idea where my receipt is and one of the allen key sockets sheared off the other day when trying to loosen a pedal on my bike allowing my fist to plough into my chain ring.... yes ouch.

I am sure I only paid about £80 for this not long ago.

These are always on offer and cheaper than this, so cold from me at this price.

agreed very good kit but this is the normal price

always more expensive instore than online, generally they're just expensive full stop.

Have a look on the product pictures, not sure if they are Ratchet Spanner in the box? They looks like normal spanners.

If this is the case maybe will be better off paying a bit more for the 150 set as they are Ratchet Spanner in the box plus 20 more pieces.

Quidco shows 2.5% not 10.

The set has normal spanners on the right side of the lid and three double ended spanners on the left. Fixed head type.
You could add the spanner set from Aldi on Sunday for £12.99 they have flex heads.

Lulz, £95 for a quality socket set, and 317 degrees and counting.

Not had much effect then has it!?

Clearly says:

3PC Double Box Ratcheting Wrench 8x10, 12x13, 17x19mm
and
Ratchet spanners with robust mechanism requires just 6 degrees movement to turn fastener

Which are the ones in the top left.

That's not a scam, shops are free to sell at what price they want.

Ultimately people decide whether this set is worth £95 (clue: it is), whether the supposed "Normal" price is £96, £200 or £37,500.

A "scam" would be if you turned up, and they said "This is a 1/4 scale model of a socket set, not a proper socket set" or something daft.

Don't suppose I can borrow your time machine to get it for that price

Theres only one issue here , the sockets are 12 sided they round your nuts . Ask me how i know

sealey kits all the way if your working on cars

I brought this kit a few years back at 'half price' it's always on offer.

Heat added though as it's a fantastic kit with solid tools

My "nuts" have always been round

I've had mine for around 9 years now and have only needed to have two sockets replaced. never needed the reciept for this. Excellent tool set for the hobby mechanic

Is this one any better than Aldi's available from Monday?

I bought one set today and the staff said you don't need the receipt for the lifetime garentee as the are all etched with the markings. Hope this helps :-)

Everyone always says how good this is, but is it better than Bahco ratchet sets?

Edit: is is as good as Bahco sets?
Edited by: "Shoesize" 24th May 2014

I've had one of these sets for years and its good, good ratchets, extensions, etc, very good spanners, but as someone else said a set of six sided sockets (1/2 and 3/8 ) can make a big difference, (at least when working on cars etc that are more than a few years old and things are a bit stuck & rusted) but best to have both if possible. If i remember correctly the 1/4 bits are 6 sided.

If you are starting from scratch and you need a decent array of tools then these kits are great but you might end up with a lot of imperial and torx bits etc that are not going to be very useful very often. Still worth it though for the useful stuff you do get.

My experience so far has been that i have never needed to produce a receipt for warranty replacements, but they say now that it is required so its just individual stores/managers policy i suppose.

Also its worth mentioning that the Allen keys are pretty poor, as in don't even bother with the smaller sizes (say 3mm or under) because you'll probably round the Allen key and/or the bolt off and end up causing yourself a lot of hassle.

Most of the other halfords professional tools are pretty decent, but don't buy the the standard screwdrivers, they're OK if you get them free with oil but quite soft, the pound through's are good though.

What my colleagues have said (also Mrdom above) is to get one of these Halfords sets on offer to start, and swap the 12 sided 3/8 and 1/2in sockets for 6 sided ones, or replace the imperial ones. Also as your tool collection expands you can buy plastic trays for these to fit into the big toolbox with drawers on wheels which you'll inevitably end up buying.

Great kit and can do most jobs.

I have been recommended these too, but am also looking at Bacho as I'd rather a socket not break than have a lifetime guarantee...
Anyone used both?
(Also looking at Sealey now due to this thread!)

This kit is excellent value for money even at 200 quid. I have 3 sets in different locations and they are well equipped and strong enough for most mechanical jobs. I have been a mechanic for 30 years and used them for 15 years. Very well recommended.

Of course, if you want the absolute best, Wera is the way to go, they're more like precision instruments than mere rough old tools, but they cost even more than Bahco. My budget doesn't stretch to anything more than a Wera ratchet screwdriver set at the moment.

A Bahco set that seems to be comparable to this one in terms of what you get, as well as price (plus I like the way the tools are arranged a bit more, and the box seems more sturdy and compact), is this one, at just £113.48 if you select the german reseller from the side, rather than £116 on the main page (or request a Flubit offer, they usually save you 11% and if you get less, persist, as you'll eventually you get the full 11%)

Paid £71.99 for this bout 2 months ago was amazing offer
It was lowest I have ever seen it and I got an extra 10% of a through an offer posted on this site

Have receipt still I jus had a look as I was curious

Lidl are selling a 216 piece set on Mon for £69.99, worth a look.

These kits used to be excellent quality, I have one from the mid 2000 and its first class. However, as of around 2010 they changed th manufacturing to China and they are now AWEFUL! I bought a second set when discounted for work and I have been through 6 ratchets, and twice as many sockets which just twist and snap as if they are made of cheese. you can see the bubbles in the casting when they break! When I took them back and said about not having the same issue with my mid 2000s set, they manager informed me about the change to china! He said that the returns have gone through the roof since AVOID!

And these two reasons are why I have now voted cold.
If you can afford it, go for Wera (even if it means you have to build your set up in smaller sections, over time), they'll put a smile on your face every time you take them out, every time you click a socket in or you hear and feel the precise buzzing clicks of the ratchet mechanism.
