Just realised that for the 3/8 ratchet alone it is £19.99 which makes this set seem an absolute bargain.

I would liked to have seen a breaker bar in there as well - but you can't have everything !

unless you are a complete idiot Halfords socket sets are ALWAYS half price and if it is a special SALE they go down another 10%.
They are good sockets but the boxes are crap

Agreed about the marketing hype -

However when they are on "sale" they are incredible value for money -

The lifetime guarantee now includes the ratchets just in case anybody is unaware of this change

I trust that's retrospective?

I believe it is retrospective -

I have been reading on other forums, where older sets have been purchased which did not include the warranty on the ratchets - now do include the lifetime warranty, the critical point being you must have proof of purchase.

Thanks for the reply. I still have the receipts and as they appear to be aging (thermal paper?) I'll scan them in.

Just went out and bought this set from my local halfords -

First impressions are very good indeed, I always used to go for the cheapest tools that money could buy, I soon realised that this is false economy - now i buy smart and buy quality.

Plenty of mechanics say these pro sets from halfords are as good as snap on - some even say that they are made in the same factory - I don't know how true that is but I do know for £30 for this set I am very happy.

My engine mount was too tough for this one...

Fortunately halfords were quick to replace it.

Good deal even for 60 bones

One of the best things in Halfords. Very good quality and they swap any broken bits without any hassle.

Just one small thing: Photocopy / scan your receipt as well as keeping the original
The receipts fade very badly over time, certainly if not locked away in a dark place. They won't replace bits without a readable receipt.

They changed the policy a few weeks back. Now includes moving parts and no receipt is required for the warranty!

Just to echo some other comments, the Halfords Professional range is an excellent range of tools and in my experience really good quality, have yet to have a ratchet fail but glad the warranty is there in case it does!

Voted hot!
As these have a lifetime guarantee a proof of when you purchased it would be pointless

I returned a broken t45 socket yesterday armed with my receipt but they didn't want to see it and changed the socket no problem

I always thought this, not like you'd have a fake halfords ratchet? If the kit is blatantly theirs the requirement for a receipt just felt like a get out.

they replaced my 3/8 ratchet without the receipt

Why were you using that type anyway? I did a complete head gasket removal, along with stuff like exhaust brackets, engine mounts etc, and nothing has worn even a little bit.

Were you using an impact gun by any chance?

BTW These are made by sykes and pickovant (mind the spelling), for the money you CANNOT buy better and they are defo pro quality, had mine for many years and still going strong.

Can you get even more off with a trade card???

Original Poster

If anyone is considering removing locking wheel nuts for alloy wheels this would be a perfect set to do so for the money - if you break a socket by hammering on it will get replaced - if you break the ratchet it will be replaced (if you are attempting to hammer over nuts though I would recommend a breaker bar rather than the ratchet when attempting to break them off)

Also worth pointing out that the 170 piece tool set is half price too, £125. Had mine for about 1 1/2 years, earned it's value a long time ago messing with the vans and motorbike.

I think the 150 piece tool set plus the 25pc spanner set bundle for £125 would probably be a better deal

Yeah I've never seen my trade card make anything more expensive, even when somethings on offer it still takes a bit more off.

Thanks gonna pick a set up a time this price

I think even a good workman is allowed to blame his tools when they split in half mid-way through a job!

Just tried with trade card and got it for £24 such a bargain!!!!!!!

i would never use my 3/8 set on an engine mount lol

not a bad set. seeing as though the ratchet repair is 5£ £15 for a bit of metal that doesnt do anything seems a bit overkill to me

Thank OP for this - bought it with the extra 13% on Friday the 13th (+quid co) - anyway I can not find anything as proof on the lifetime guaranty including ratchets on line, does anyone have a link as I want to keep proof as the box clearly states that it does not include moving parts?

The policy only changed a few weeks back so obviously the packaging would not have changed that quickly. Contact them to confirm if you're that worried.
