Halfords Advanced Professional 90 Piece Socket Set £59.99

First post, thanks!

I know the price of these Halfords sets go up and down like sofa "sales". But this does look like the cheapest this set has been on for a while, I was looking previously and it was at £69.99, then it jumped to £89.99 and back to full price for a bit.

Have bought halfords sets before and I have just got this, very nice and the case has nicer metal clasps which should be better than the previous blown plastic ones.

Cheers!

These Hallfrauds Advanced Pro tools are as good as if not better than Snap On, Bahco, Teng and a lot of others.

If you need a set then these are the babies to get!

Agreed!

I've got several different sets some of which are over 12 years old now and the ratchets etc are still going strong and (as a mechanic) they get a LOT of home use!

I have this set. It is very good and excellent value at this price
The 150 piece is often £99,99 which is also amazing value. Or about £95 if you have a trade card if I remember correctly.

Just a bit of info, although the professional stuff comes with a lifetime warranty which is very good, it doesn't cover moving parts like the internals of the ratchet handles which I broke on the 3/8" handle.

Snap on do not have a life time warranty on their stuff anymore so Hallfrauds win again!
It is amazing that halfords are one of the most ridiculously priced shops around. Absolute rip off on most things; then they also sell these ratchet sets which are nothing short of fantastic. I've got a 1/2" drive and a 1/4" drive set which are both pushing 20 years old and still going strong. I do wonder if they did break, would i get a replacement without the original receipts etc? Btw - dont see them breaking any time soon despite use as breaker bars and convenient hammers in the past.
These are like the ORAL B brushes. You dont have to buy them unless they are on offer for half price. Lol
I was told that britool make halfords socket sets, if so the quality will be very good
I don't think halfords is overpriced. Most of the time the cleaning products are cheaper in halfords than on eBay or Amazon. Anyway halfords pro tools are awesome, Ive been buying them for the last 10 years and they take all of the abuse.

prefer 1/2 inch drive

Sorry, I'm not really too much into DIY. Thinking of maybe getting a set to have for my car an Audi A3. What does 1/2 inch mean and will it affect what I can use these tools on?

Rear of sockets have square holes in them to attach the drive to. The 1/4" drive will not be as strong as the 1/2" one as it is a quarter of the size overall, also the extension bars have larger diameter on 1/2" to 1/4" and so are stronger. Most DIY users should be satisfied with smaller (and lighter) drive sets for nuts up to 19mm. If you really need 1/2" on sockets under 20mm they can be purchased separately (but can be expensive when compared to set prices)
good quality set, voted hot

Agree with DaveIb, for the most part you will not need the 1/2" drive but it does make some jobs easier as the handle is longer usually, therefore you can get more pressure on tough nuts and bolts. I think this set woudl do you fine for most jobs and is likely to tackle anything a novice wants to try themselves!

The only job I would suggest this might fall short on is an oil change. As the sockets all look to be bi-hex (lots of little teeth inside the socket making it easy to seat on a bolt), I'd find out what size your sump plug is and buy a single 'hex' socket (looks like a bolt head recess inside the socket) on the 1/2" drive. As a man who has rounded the head off of a sump plug using a bi-hex socket, I'd say a fiver extra will save you quite a bit in garage bills fixing a mistake! I'll not be doing that again......
They have the older set which is 150 pc apparently for the same price and shows stock at my store. Might get one!

I have NEEDED a 3/4 in the past on a motorcycle so 3-8 may not be enough for the Audi

get the halfords one, much better quality
it does not pay to use poor tools/ sockets as ringing off nuts and taking out your knuckles is no fun !!
sounds expensive, but it would be perfect to work on the car and obviously it would work for any car...
I have the 1/4 and the 3/8 socket sets, both have worked extremely well. I would like 1/2 drive though to be safe, dont really need the rest.
