Had my socket set for over 6 years now and the case has seen better days; one clip broken, the other missing, hole in top (I've thrown it about a bit over the years...).

Just noticed that Halfords are now selling empty replacement cases so not only can I replace it, I can "upgrade" my set from the 120 piece one to the 200 piece (£12.74 for this case). I already have many of the other additional parts to fit straight into the bigger case, like the ratchet spanner set that I've bought separately over the years.

200pc - £12.74

Bought the 150pc set about 7 years ago and the case broke pretty quickly so it's great that I can order this replacement. I notice there are a few differences so I might be left with a few empty spaces & spares to sort out.

I thought the Advanced cases also had a lifetime guarantee?

I was told that it wasn't covered when I tried to get it replaced, the old case only had 2 hinges and I think was a common fault.

Reading the reviews from the new 150pc box it looks like I would end up with about 28 empty spaces to fill so this is probably only useful for people with newer sets.

The cases and any moving parts aren't covered, i.e. the mechanisms in the spanners and ratchets.

The case that came with mine back in 2012 was not that great. Looks like they've been improved quite a bit, just hope all the bits fit as it looks like there could be slight differences

The cases and Ratchets are now covered by the lifetime guarantee (or at least they were last year)
I took mine back last year because the crappy plastic locking tabs broke off after having it for 6 years and they were not able to supply me with an identical case so they gave me the current equivalent but unfortunately I ended up with a load of empty spaces.
I also took a copy of their terms & conditions webpage in case they gave me grief but they never argued, I can't seem to find the t&c page no more though??

That's good to know. I wasn't aware of that. Don't mind paying for the case, I've not exactly treated it well

Ratchet mechanisms etc were always covered f or trade card, and have been covered for everyone for around 5 years now.
Modular cases are not covered though.

It looks like you are correct and they have now withdrawn the cases from the guarantee looking at the website socket set descriptions.
When I got mine replaced last year they definitely covered them, I even took a pdf print out of the t&c from their website with me in case the staff tried to argue and it clearly stated ratchets and cases are now covered.
I have a trade card but that made no difference.

Just checking, £8.49 to replace a case that was rubbish in the first place with another?

Exactly.. I'm gonna spend my money on the 3 drawer chest instead. Maybe not as portable but will last a lot longer. Just need some foam.

Or 4 drawer, never to much
Discount also works on the empty trays. Heat added.

Good idea, most of these halfords sockets sets do not cost much more than this case on some of the deals posted here lately. Does seem a bit silly to pay nearly the same for an empty box that broke in the first place. hotukdeals.com/dea…503

I took my 7 year old 150 piece back as the case broke, they couldn’t get a replacement case (the design and contents has changed) and the cases were on a 6 month plus waiting list. They replaced the whole set with a brand new one! I didn’t even have the receipt. Kings Lynn store.

I was in the same situation and was given a better kit as they didn't have an equivalent one. I think it's staff / personality based but I was very happy and they have done enough business out of me over the years!
Might have to give this a try taking it back, my clips have gone and it’s almost in 2 parts as the join is a 3rd ripped too. It’s probably 10 years old, but all the tools are fine!

exactly what I was thinking ,,,
I got my case replaced under the guarantee six months ago. Catches broken after only eight months
they tried to say it wasn't covered, but I pointed out that the new empty case was in a cellophane wrapper all on its own, with a cardboard banner inside that clearly stated lifetime guarantee in BIG letters. I wouldn't pay for the new cases the catches are rubbish

They replaced ours free of charge under the guarantee
I also got a case replaced free a few years ago.
Case replacements are covered FOC unless the store deem its down to misuse, why would I pay for one
So, new case today. It’s unfortunate my set was at least 10 years old so the layout was different. Not everything fit. I have the 150 piece set. What did Halfords do? They gave me a 200 piece box and a small stanly tool box to put the loose stuff in that would not fit in the new box. £20 worth of stuff for free. Cheers halfords
