I have the Carerra Subway hybrid bike purchased for a great price on hotukdeals, and its a very good bike! However now I have the cycling bug, i've been longing for a good road bike at a good price and this seems to tick all my boxes. Hope it is helpful for someone else?

Agreed.....good price for a bike, but unfortunately it is put together by people who dont know what they are doing, and the range is mass produced, therefore you get cheap as chips parts so servicing becomes expensive. Keep your cash and look round for end of season bargains from a reputable manufacturer. (lack of review on Halfords website tells its own story)

I'd say 14 gears isn't enough and agree with sauce54 comments.

You's have thought Halfords as a big nationwide company would of got the message by now seeing that cycling is enjoying such a boom and that they sell the very well regarded Boardman bikes.

I had a Carrera Subway, very decent bike for the money. I'd just bought a boardman or i'd have this. Decent bike for the cash I'd say

Personally I'd say the bike putting together service which I imagine you are referring is hit and miss. The guy in St Helens branch seems to be a bike enthusiast and put mine together well, seemed to know what he was doing. But I'd suggest maybe others do not have the skills.

With the Carrera Range I would say the RRP seems sometimes inflated though, so this is probably more its value than a genuine reduction. Think I paid £230 for my Subway reduced from £400

If you only have 320 bucks to spend then you should be OK but I would not snap their hand off at this price. The components are basic. Make sure you get the right size for you, it just not about height and leg length.

Try a local bike store where you can see the price range of main stream bikes and their components. they should make sure the bike will fit you and that you will be comfortable on it. The service should be much better than halfords, if you dont feel your getting good advice, ie what you are going to use it for, what is your price limit, do you get a free first service etc etc then try somewhere else.

I've had a Carrera for nearly 3 years & have only had to change the tyres despite daily use. The gears are starting to feel if they'll need replacing soon but haven't had to replace the bottom bracket or anything else so it's been great value.

Just seen one in Halfords, they haven't sold any yet as new line just in, supposidly new for Xmas. The one in the store hadn't even got a price label made up as was so new! A few people looking with intrest, displayed next to £1k boardman and looked the part. £599.99 in store £329.99 online reserve and collect. Looks amazing cheap starter chainset (Tourney) double pivot brakes, i've been checking stock daily for TDF and this came online today.

Bought one yesterday (24-09-2012)..... at £329.99... The Price today Online has gone back up to £599.99.
For me I won't be taking on Chris Boardman or Bradley Wiggins any day soon (My Age is against me... "even the hill turn to me for advice")..... lol.
So I feel for the price I'm getting a good / fair deal.
I looked at the other Carrera's
Carrera Virtuoso Race Limited Edition At £349.99 (Frame just too small for me at 6' 1" and 33" inside leg - Shame)
Carrera Vanquish at £499.99 (Just can't justify spending that kinda money)
Carrera Virtuoso Road Bike at £549.99 even though in store it's Cheaper by £80 - £100 (??????) (Just can't justify spending that kinda money)

I did a ride of 40 mile to Hungerford last week on my Raliegh Mission MTB - damn near killed me. Took 4hrs 14mins on the sat nav of which 3hrs 58mins in motion. I want to double it to 90miles in a day (a long Day). My hopes are pinned on this.... and I'm feeling Good about so far ;))

just sold my carrera xc kracken after buying a specialized rock hopper and have to say i thoroughly enjoyed my time on my carrera i used it daily to get too and from work , im now looking at a carrera tdf on eBay or failing that il go for a b twin triban 3 if i can get one in my size if any one need sto go to halfords to get a service done i go to st albans branch where john work s very knowledgeable and very courteous .

000illy.. your a gas man (or woman!!). I've just ordered a Carrera Zelos Limited Edition through the Bike to Work Scheme in Ireland where all taxes on bikes for travelling to work are removed, making the price about 45% or original. This is of course an incentive to get your butt out of the car and onto a bike. Price is Euro 412 here - so probably about the same as UK price. My cycling friend recommended it, and said that it has all good quality parts, and is light. Was going for a hybrid, but hoping to do a few miles. Proof will be told over time though !
