Do you need somebody to check these things. if you cannot check these yourself you should not be driving.
Bet that they find loads of stuff wrong and will be happy to fix it for you
in all fairness if you are disabled or old it would help you out alot. not everyone can do these checks.

It's all part of being a responsible motorist; rubber hoses can and will perish over time and you can catch fluids before they drop below minimum levels if you check fluids as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Technicians aren't infallible so it's a good idea to check levels yourself regularly even if you don't spot anything on your parking spot under your engine bay

The point I'm making is that heavily disabled folks may not be able to perform very basic maintenance checks but that shouldn't keep them off the road surely? I've worked for Hellfrauds, some of the chimps I worked under needed me to ensure the bikes they built didn't kill children so I think comparing them to primates is a compliment to some of them

They could potentially release the catch but not be able to raise a bonnet. You've seen hand controls in cars, yes?

I agree with you actually, this is an insult to monkeys.
"We've checked your car, and can't find anything wrong with it. There's no charge, see you next year!"

Is something you're not going to hear from the lad at Halfords.

"We tried to check the brake discs, but the lug nuts were quite tight, so the new bloke cut the wheels off with an anglegrinder. That'll be £679 please. Also, would you like use to order you some more wheels?"

Is something you're more likely to hear from the lad at Halfords.

Because your husband had a car that didn't lose fluid, you're not going to check for fluid loss? Genius!

How about I take away your movement, or your ability to do things then take away your freedom by taking your car and telling you that you shouldn’t own it because of these things, stop being mean, and narrow minded

it is not best practice but we will not be the only ones who do not check the fluid levels. if you get your car annually serviced and pay for a good enough level of service where they top up fluid levels, and you do not use the car for business, so you do not rack up huge mileage, then in the ordinary course of event, you will be fine until the next annual service.

the fact that halfords offer this service would imply that a lot of people do not do so themselves, otherwise it would be quicker to do the check yourself, rather than make an appointment, then take the car to halfords and wait while they do the checks.

Ok, this is nonsense. Maybe you are trolling?

Just yesterday I was working on and condemned as BER an engine (Kawasaki) that had developed an oil leak, and consequently had eaten the main bearing. Off the top of my head I can think of three cars in the last 6 months that were rendered pretty much worthless after developing fluid loss; one Honda (coolant leak, boiled), one Hyundai (oil leak, spun bearings), one Vauxhall (oil leak, one cylinder total compression loss).

If the fluid loss had been spotted, the damage would not have occured.

How do you think that having a service in June will protect you from mechanical failure in February?

Still, I guess it keeps me in work!

No one's damaged my headlights/ bulbs because I don't let anyone else at them, bar to adjust the alignment I worked for Hellfrauds part and full time for a few years, albeit in the Bike Hut, so I know all too well that the odd chimp can end up being employed if only for a short while
Cheap way to find lots of potential errors in the cars.

Halfords Autocentre MOT......found 7 things they said needed fixing for MOT inc needing a new exhaust section & catalyst

Took to my local garage without doing anything & flew through MOT without so much as an advisory.......three years later it was still passing it's MOT with the same exhaust parts

Would NEVER let a Halfords employee near any car of mine bearing in mind these were supposed to be mechanics not just shop staff

That's exactly my point. You are judging one bad experience and generalising on all Halfords staff. Many people get ripped off by local garages also.
