Please do not buy an Apollo bike and in my view any bike from halfords. I own an Apollo XC 26S. Their disc brakes fundamentally do not work. When they were first fitted they were hugging the disc (The front wheel did not spin free) I took it back to halfords two weeks later and complained, he stuck an allen key in and wobbled it, changed nothing and told me it should wear in, in a few weeks. It eventually lost its ability to brake in a moth (just did nothing). The back brakes were knackered in 2 months. I got my local shop to fit new ones for £40. within a year developed a back wheel wobble, had the wheel replaced. £30. Then my freewheel went, £30. I still do not have working front brakes, I went to Halfords to get some Brake Bosses to fit normal brakes on they gave me ones that don't fit. My front gear shifting has gone, so now I ride on the third level permanently.

For the sake of your safety, money, do not buy a Bike from Halfords, or at least not an Apollo, there is many cycling experts who know of quality cycles you can purchase, if you make a request surely someone will reply. I purchased my Apollo as a plain novice on Bicycles for £140, spend its value in repairs, there are things I cannot even remember. I put the blame on Halfords as a whole for even selling such a poor brand even if they do have decent models. Their service is appalling.
my husband and i bought these bikes last week. the staff in Halfords tried to tell us by spending a little bit more we could have a much better bike but to be honest - these were really comfy and as first bikes in years was enough to spend just in case they are relegated to gathering cobwebs after a c0uple of outings!!!:whistling:
Anyone looking for random cycling, go for a crappy ASDA type £40 bike, or get one crappy second hand one for around the same price don't fork out sub £200 for an Apollo for the same quality as a £50. I do use my Bicycle almost everyday, Uni commuting, if not any commuting.
alright bikes for kids bought a pink bmx for my 7 year old and a sweetie bike for my 2 year old 2 weeks ago they were half price plus got hello kitty helmets for half price and used the 10% off voucher which you print off online all together for 2 bikes, helmets and pads paid £116 think dat great price
This is a good find: There are a range of bikes at reasonable prices.
The customer reviews on the site indicate that the apollo seems good value for money

he is a typical review.

Pros: tyres are excellent
Cons: grip shift too hard for small hands

"1) You get what you pay for, so ignore the value of the 'discounted price'. This IS A £100 BIKE, compared to similiar models.
2) So for your money, goods parts- Shimano gears, V brakes, dual suspension, excellent tyres(tread pattern), sturdy build etc.
3) Thought gone into frame size as it is 11inch, so when seat at lowest, my 6 year old can touch the ground seated. At least 3 good years biking.
Also easy to get on and off because of the lower bar of Y frame. Other 20" wheeled bikes, have 13/14" frames, which requires a larger inside leg.
4) Twist/grip shift is hard for small hands, so stick into a low gear, until they can do it themselves.
5) Looked at many bikes, some cheaper with same specs, but the frame size, gears, and the quality of the tyres made the difference. Donot underestimate the quality of your tyres, especially riding off road.
6) If bike built in store, ask for the addtional seat pillar & toolkit(had to go back for mine)."
