Hence the difference in price between the 2. This is based on the original advanced/professional range which was called industrial. I bought one of these boxes in black in 2003 (15 years ago ) and bar a small scratch a daily abuse, loaded with tools it's still as good as the day I bought it

There's only about £30 difference just now, good time to buy either.. I have a few Halfords industrial boxes, and I'm tempted myself, but I want an 8 foot stainless box with wooden worktop, so will need to wait till then.
Use a quidco registered card if it lets you do pay on collection for an even bigger saving with the cash back.

excellent value for money at this price am tempted to buy another set

Saw that, but was 6 foot and had cabinet doors in bottom two centre rows. There's a version of this like that, but I'm too tall, the overhead cabinets would be in my face.
33306996-W65Ma.jpgThere's loads of variations of these, catering equipment originally I think.
Can you take the Halfords badge off, is it just stuck on?

Pretty sure it is, might be a couple of tiny location holes at most.
The white top unit has gas struts on the hinged top 'lid' making it impossible to fall down and squash fingers, a massive safety plus over the others.

I also found the deeper (taller?) drawers more useful for my tools, than the black/orange/green sets which have more shallow drawers. A bit of a shame because I really wanted the orange bundle!

The one thing missing with the white top unit is a tote tray which I think the others come with, but I got a couple of sturdy plastic ones in B and Q for a couple of quid to sit in the top section.

This was my big bugbear with the Halfords industrial range ... those drawers are just too shallow I have a 3 stack of orange and black picking al of them up when on offer and they only did the centre section in black so have that in the middle of the orange pair.. I think they are first class, draw runners are solid and the locking or I should say 'latching' front handles are a really nice touch... but my only bugbear is that depth... i complained (in a constructive way) to one of 'the workshop tools' group managers after getting hold of her email with a bit of sleuthing LOL, and she was very helpful and forthcoming with info about when the black centre sections were coming and told me about the coloured units coming a few months before they arrived too, , also said she would pass on my comments regarding the drawer depth etc... and low and behold just after I bought my second one they bring out the white'un with perfect drawer sizes......DOH!!

It was way too expensive to start with though as noted above theyve only just started to discount the white'un I'd also love to have waited and grabbed a larger single Stainless one as described above:( but beggers cant be choosers... the ones in homebase are also sold under two different brands for a virtually identical product too

That could be the "Best Man Cave" in the world.
Ordered thanks! Says cream looks white, is it just an off white?
What's the overall height of these with the wheels? And with and without wheels when the top is open?

Got a tight height space to fit in
Ordered!

Thanks for the post OP

33311887.jpgFrom the measurement I took this morning it's 16cm from floor to the bottom of the lower chest (assuming all their industrial units use the same castors). Then add in the 70cm for the lower case and 49 cm for the upper, and allow approx 46cm for the lid to lift... 181cm..

Awesom info thanks Don_mega
Thanks don_mega. I think it's a bit too high unfortunately. Almost persuaded myself to spend the extra and go for this!
Another thought. Can this be used without the castors on?

Also, does the lid need to be open (fully) in order for the drawers on the top chest to open?

Alternatively anyone recommend a similar quality and price set up at around 140cm max height?

Yes fine without castors, and if lock mechanism is the same as other colours you can remove pin and all drawers open with top closed, but you cannot lock it like this, fine if not in a public place.
Thanks. I might just be able to squeeze it in then. Its either this or one of the £100 smaller units from SGS.

Accurate measurements now I've got it... 134cm tall inc wheels (wheels/castors take up 16cm of that), 171cm with wheels and with the top lid fully open. It looks a really nice chest in the ivory colour, and although mine has a small outward "dent" in the side that's created a hairline crack in the paint, I'll probably just keep it and put a sticker on it.

Brilliant. Can you confirm if the drawers in the top chest open if the top is shut? Or, how raised does the top need to be to get them to unlock?

These Halford chests are or have an unbelievably high rate of damage when delivered considering their overall construction and being very well built....I suspect they get manually handled far more than they should at that weight and people think they can manage it and find our very quickly you need to be a weightlifter for one man lol... fantastic kit though. ..jealous I haven't got room for a third...
Is anyone else's posts under manual review? ? Or have I done something that wrong I don't know about? ?

I get that impression. They really go to town on the packaging, with heavy duty cardboard, and polystyrene so it must occur before that point (packaged, the two boxes just fit in a Golf with the seats down). Time for a factory visit, Mr Halfords Quality Controller.

The simple lock on the top chest works on the lid only. You have to open the lid about 3/4, to approx. total height inc. castors 160cm (11cm short of fully open) for it to lift the two bars at the back that release the drawers. I suppose you could theoretically drive out the pin and remove the two bars, but that would leave the drawers unlocked and if you move the unit around on it's wheels the drawers will slide open easily I think. Alternatively, just keep the top and bottom units separate. The bottom unit has a nice rubber pad - it's a shame to lose it if you stack the units together.
