On the face of it it seems like an excellent deal, however I'm 99% sure the prices have gone up as the Boardman 8.6 Hybrid was only £500 recently with 15% off making it £425, or had £85 off making it £415. However it's now £550 with a possible 20% off making it £440 plus trade in.
Can I pull a bike out of the local river and use that?

What are the terms and conditions? I’ve got a battered bike that’s dusting away in the shed. Nice way to get rid of it!

Pretty relaxed I think. As long as it’s got 2 wheels, a chain and isn’t completely rusted over, should be fine.

That’s one example. However other than that most prices have stayed the same and therefore become a very good price. The Voodoo Bizango E for example comes to to £1600 from £2000 which is not only a massive saving but there’s nothing else on the market with that spec for that kind of money! 🏻

I've had my eye on a Boardman Adv 8.8 and that too recently went from £750 to £800. It was previously on sale at £625 so at £640 this is a worse deal for that bike as well. No such thing as a free lunch.
It would appear prices have gone up on a few of the cheaper Carrera mountain bikes
Been watching the subway 2 for the last month and the price has not moved from £350 so snapping it up with the 70 off ! 3% Quidco and use PayPal for 4 months interest free - have some heat . Went for subway 2 as hydraulic brakes and no front fork so less to break. Only using for family rides out
Amazing deal. Thanks

Absolutely brilliant bike for the money although there is nothing wrong with the Subway 1 either, brakes not quite as good but easier to maintain and still provide great stopping power. Better drivetrain on the Subway 2 but steel forks on the Subway 1 which personally I prefer over aluminium even if aluminium is lighter. Both feature a decent freehub. Either is good basically and both worth considering for different reasons.
saw this last night and looked at a few 14"/16" bikes for my son, come back today when the deal is live and the prices have gone up!

They put the Boardman HYB 8.6 up to £600 from £550 a few days ago making it's price IMPO uncompetitive. Other brands in that ball park for better bikes IMPO.
Edited by: "tawse57" 5th Mar 2019
So you can trade in a knackered old bike helmet and get 20% off a bike?
Yep, the prices went up last week. For example, the HYB 8.6 was £550. Now it is £600 so you have basically a 10% rise last week. Now this 20% off but you should expect 10% off a new bike everytime so they are not giving you anything special here IMPO. Plus they want you to give something in return.

IMPO if you are prepared to wait and know what you are looking for you can grab better deals from the other big brands during sales.

Nice find OP but this would have been a hot deal IMPO if it was 20% off the prices before last week's price rises.
The price of the bike I've been thinking of buying hasn't moved for months so might go for it now. Thanks OP. Not sure what they will think of my old helmet though lol
Just to add Cycle Republic are part of Halfords and on the odd occasion the same bike is cheeper there. Now I know there are not many Cycle Reblic stores however Halfords will price match.
So, how does this work? I have ordered for delivery. Code worked, but how do I show them what I'm trading in?

Orders through home/work delivery must bring in their old item to a local Halfords store within 14 days of receiving new product. We reserve the right to forfeit the discount if trade in is not completed.halfords.com/adv…-in
Have to say this is great part of the bike for Africa scheme
have an old bike they can have and if that is rejected a helmet

The only annoying thing is I took one to the recycling centre just the other day
I wonder if they are accepting old bike anyway ?
Any clue on whether this can be combined with Halfords cycle scheme (cycle2work.info/)?

I don't see how they could reject an helmet - even an old knackered one - in return for the 20% off a bike. Surely it matters not what condition it is in, just that it is a token gesture.

"Here's my helmet! Right, where's my 20% off a bike!?"

I think ordering it online and getting it sent to you is actually preferable to getting it delivered to Halfords. I have read alot about Halfords putting bikes together - seems to be very hit and miss. Also reports of bikes being scratched. Apparently all they do is straighten the handlebars and put the wheels on.

I suppose the only thing to be wary about is if ordering a bike with carbon forks or a full carbon frame - how well packaged will it be to be delivered to your home. Then again, it would be packaged no differently or handled no differently by couries whether it is being sent to your home or to your local Halfords shop.

Seems unlikely that they will price match and still offer the 20% off but you never know assuming they haven't matched up the prices already. I think the Carrera Crixus CX bike was £240 a short time ago maybe a couple of weeks back but now £350 so £280 under this new promotion, other bikes seem great value but like any Halfords price promotion it's a roller coaster of pricing with some becoming far better value and some becoming far worse but there are some superb bikes here for low money. It's up to the buyer to decide if its the right time to buy the bike they want based on their roller coaster pricing. Not always easy to work out unless its a bike that is already partially discounted anyway and you get that 20% off as well then its probably a very good time to buy but if it's at full price minus the 20% then it may not necessarily be the best time to buy, it could be discounted after the promotion and a 10% discount is usable for example. If you look to get 30% of the normal full price you are probably doing ok.

But you have a helmet so it does not matter about the bike. Just take the helmet in - I read the deal as being they will accept an old helmet in return for 20% off a bike. It is a token. So give them the helmet, buy the bike and let us know if they turn it down.

I can't see how they could turn it down.

Um I need to get rid of the bike it is six miles to the recycling centre(the council don't take them)
and would much prefer that someone got some more use out of it anyway
What puts me off Boardman bikes these days - apart from the price rises - are video like this. I have read forum posts about bottom bracket failures on their bikes whilst fairly new.

Just did a chat with Halfords and they said it should be fine!
Shame they put the price of the electric Vulcan up by £200 the other week to £1200,so this deal only takes it down to what it was before.
Edited by: "Biggunspaul" 5th Mar 2019
The Carrera Crossfuse was £1600 yesterday, I had a demo on Saturday and was going to buy it when their regular 20% off sale started again. It has gone up to £1800 on the day that they start their trade in deal.
I was going to join the British cycle club and get another 10% off as well, which would have taking the price down to £1176, after paying £24 to join the club.
They are not daft
Just purchased a bike on Saturday for £300, not happy!!! Could of saved £60
