halfords own stuff is usually 4l as mentioned above

They have other grades for same price. 5w40 and 5w30

Can't find it at this price online, showing at £21.99?
halfords.com/web…001

Click on sale, all 4 grades can be found in there. Doesn't come up on a search.

hmm, branded (Shell performance etc) @ £16-17 vs halfords £11..

Edit - ok fine the 5W40 is a good deal (as you never get sales for this!), not so much of the 10W40 as its quite common "old age" car oil

screeenwash is good too, i've got about 20l concentrated from various deals from here so not needed personally (£2.49 for 5l)

The sale offers are for 4 litres at £12 -10% (or £11.99 depending which screen you are looking at !) 5l is £21.99. A lot more expensive than it was in last year's sale, £9 / 4l IIRC.

For 10W40, it looks like 2L is £11.99. The 5L is coming up as £21.99.

Original posting incorrect - 4L on deal not 5L - don't be misled by the image - it is wrong

Why go for semi-synthetic oil when fully synthetic oil can be bought for the same price?

30 is a bit thinner when fully up to temp than 40.

5 /40 is usually recommended for most motors, but in our moderate climate it doesn't make that much of a difference.

what about 10w 40?

what about 10w 40?[/quote]

depends on the engine/ brand of car you've got, nowadays for some engines 10/40 is a bit too thick (10 being the viscosity when it's cold)

Many websites will tell you (after filling out what car/engine you've got) what oil is preferred and what is possible (not meaning ideal).
