Halifax - almost instant £100 for opening an account

I did a search and couldn't find this, but appologies if it has been posted before.

Halifax are currently running a promo where you open an accout amd they give you £100. I know santander, FD and Co-Op bank have of have had similar deals, but with this one Halifax will pay the £100 the when you start to use their switching service, not after a switch is complete (i.e. they pay almost instantly on account opening) and you don't have to pay in a set figure each month.

The only stipulation is that you have to use their switching service to transer direct debits and standing orders. I'm using an old account with a single direct debit on it for this.

Here's the T&Cs

£100 to switch Terms and Conditions

1. To qualify for the £100 switching incentive (the "offer") you must successfully apply for a new Halifax Current Account, Halifax Reward Current Account or Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account and use the Halifax Switching Service/Team to switch your existing current account from another bank. This means transferring all your direct debits and other regular payments from your existing bank to your new Halifax bank account ("your account") with us.

2. We reserve the right to claim back the offer if you do not complete the switch from your existing current account by transferring all your direct debits and other regular payments to your account.

3. This offer only applies to applications received in branch, online or by telephone between 3rd January 2012 and midnight on 19th February 2012.

4. Only one offer is available per customer. Joint accounts opened under the offer will only be eligible for one payment.

5. Customers who have been in receipt of a fee free overdraft in the last 12 months when using the Halifax Switching Service/ Team will not be eligible for another fee free overdraft. Whether you can have an overdraft and the amount will depend upon your personal circumstances at the time you apply for one. Any overdraft we agree is subject to status. Overdrafts are repayable on demand.

6. The offer will be paid directly into your account when we start your switch.

7. The offer will appear as a cash credit in your account.

8. Subject to condition 9 below, the offer excludes existing Halifax and Bank of Scotland bank account customers switching to new Halifax bank accounts.

9. All Halifax Current Accounts, Halifax Reward Current Accounts and Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Accounts are offered subject to status. Accounts can only be opened by personal customers. A customer can still hold one Halifax Reward Current Account and Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account in their sole name and one in joint names.

The offer is available to existing customers who already have a Halifax or Bank of Scotland Current Account, Reward Current Account or Ultimate Reward Current Account in their sole name and wish to open a Halifax account in joint names.

The offer is available to existing customers who already have a Halifax or Bank of Scotland Current Account, Reward Current Account or Ultimate Reward Current Account in joint names and wish to open a Halifax account in their sole name.

The offer is not available to existing Halifax customers who are upgrading their account.

10. The following Halifax bank accounts are excluded from the offer: Easycash account, Cardcash account, Expresscash account and Student Current Account.

11. The offer is subject to change and can be withdrawn without notice at any time.

12. The offer is not available to employees of Lloyds Banking Group nor is it available if the employee is the first named on any Halifax bank account held in joint names.

Quite a few exclusions listed, other than that, if you're happy with your current bank, think again before switching for the sake of a bob.
:p:p
depends if u can cancel the ultimate reward account at anytime. i.e. under 30 days

No. Halifax would need authorisation from yourself to close the account on your behalf (if needed) usually when you give the account details of the existing account

If you don't want it then don't apply for it in the first place...

1. To qualify for the £100 switching incentive (the "offer") you must successfully apply for a new Halifax Current Account, Halifax Reward Current Account or Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account and use the Halifax Switching Service/Team to switch your existing current account from another bank.

The accounts in bold are free accounts. I can understand people not wanting to go off searching for more info (despite 99% of questions in deal threads being easily answerable with a 5 second google search or quick browse of the relevant website!) but it is condition number 1 posted in the very first post on the page...

So do we not need to pay a monthly fee?

So do we not need to pay a monthly fee?

Why would you need to pay a monthly fee for a bank account that doesn't charge a monthly fee?
So is the account where you pay in £1000 per month and get £5 in return included in this deal?
If you are contemplating this I would look at First Direct. A far superior bank - top every year in Which? reports. They not only give you £100 to open an account, but if you are not happy with them after 6 months they will help you move to another bank and give you another £100!!

Every bank in the UK must help you to switch. The halifax account pays £5 per month if you pay in £1000 per month just don't go overdrawn (£1 per day authorised and £5 per day unauthorised). Phone them on 08457203040. All you need is 2 Direct Debits set up on the account to qualify and of course the £1000 per month to get the £5 reward

Don't do it! Their marketing calls are a nightmare, they dress them up as 'courtesy calls' and they ring you even when you tell them you are not interested. Only stopped when I complained at the branch.

And combine that with a Halifax clarity card with a spend of £300 a month and you get an additional £5 a month (£10 total). That's what I'm doing and it worked even if I am with Bank of Scotland
I'm trying to find the info that normally says, for these things, that you have to pay in £1000 a month to keep the account. Is that applicable here (it would count me out.)
Still waiting for my £200 from Santander - Did that switch back in October

Might have a go at this and cut my losses

If you close your account in the first year
you may be charged an amount equal to £12.50
a month for each remaining month to the end
of the first year

No, you just need to transfer some direct debits and/or standing orders.
i done a switch to halifax about a year ago and got £100 you dont need to close your other bank.
also if you get the ultimate reward account intrest fees for overdrafts are free up to £300
but the charge is £15 a month to have this account, but there are other benifits like mobile insurance holiday insurance all free.

ive not always paid a £1000 in each month and never lost my account

Im with Barclays for over 15 years and never had any issue with them. How is the customer service with Halifax..?

What is this for though & it it relevant to this deal?
It certainly isn't in the T&Cs for their current accounts.
Be careful if just switching to a standard current account (not the rewards) as they charge £1 a day for going into your arranged overdraft (even by 1p).

I know some other banks do this as well but I personally find it extortionate on principal as they tried to explain the change as a "benefit" to exsisting customers.

OVERDRAFT FEES £1 PER DAY FOR PLANNED OVERDRAFT!???

Only if you are using the overdraft, stay in the black and you are £5 up a month
Not worth it, sticking with Natwest
Be warned i was with them for 25 years but they changed their overdraft charges,if you go 1p overdrawn they will charge you £1.00 for everyday you are overdrawn i left them for first direct who also offer a £100 pound cashback for opening an account with a free £200.00 overdraft
I swapped to the A&L when they did a similar deal and what a mistake. Went from them to the Halifax and have to say, they are close to being up there with First Direct
Sorry voted cold, other better deals out there.
Switched last month to co-op and will recieve £200 next month
Also if u have a ultimate reward and a reward current card u can earn £10.00 per month just by swapping £1000.00 before midnight then straight back 1 minute past midnight lol once per month. Been doing this the last 3 years lol
So nice of a bank to give something bank considering what they owe the world economy due to their inane credit handling. £100 is laughable :P
If I hadn't done the Coop switch I would have gone for this.
