£15 monthly fee?????

there's no fee, just £1 to set up good idea but I went overdrawn a few times from bills as they didn't set up in time better setting it up just after all bills came out

As far as I can see the only T&Cs say you get the £100 when they start the switch.

What's to stop closing th account as soon as that happens?

I'd go with first direct, same bribe, far better bank and service

Wish this was on when i switched.Cant understand why people complain about going overdrawn.Dont go overdrawn easy as.Great deal and ive not had any issues with halifax.

No love for current, current account customers?

First Direct doesn't give the £5 each month. Better to join Halifax now as this is, historically, their best offer.

First Directs best offer is £125 to join and this has been in place periodically over the past 1-2 years. I'd leave joining First Direct until this is back in place.

I applied to Halifax yesterday......

Current customers get the £5 each month. What do you think, they're just going to turn around and offer you another £100 in addition to the £5 each month every time they re-introduce this offer for new customers?

Where's my £100, Halifax...for sticking with you all these years even though you've charged me over £200 in unfair fees and all you did was refuse payments. £10 for refusing a payment! WHAT THE F-...

I agree. I'd must rather their £1 a day charge for going overdrawn than a £5-10 one-off charge for a returned cheque/direct debit. I'd save money because I'd make sure that, if I did go overdrawn for whatever reason, my account would be back in credit within a day or two.

If they refused a payment when their was money in your account, you've a basis for complaining and should get the charges refunded.

If they refused a payment due to insufficient funds in your account, then it's your own fault.

Iv'e switched twice in 2 years to get these offers, no hassle at all - Switched from HSBC to Santander and got £100 + other perks and now with 1st Direct, got £125 for switching. Will move to Halifax next time!

I don't even get that £5 every month.

I opened that account for the no fuss insurance and breakdown cover. Need to cancel I guess, £15 pm for those is not enough, cr.ap bank anyway.

At £10 a time that means 20 times your tried to buy stuff with not enough money in the account ?

And thats somehow their fault ?

Some personal responsibility required methinks....

First Direct is a much better bank

Better Customer service
Better ISA Interest rates
Better savings rates
Overdraft fees is lower

Was with Halifax 15 years and took alot to change (To First Direct) but no regrets

I also didn't get the £5 a month reward. I applied online and realised after 2 months that they had opened a standard current account, and not the reward fee free account. Rang them up, complained a bit, said they would switch it over.Account was switched immediately. Then sent an email complaint also. Next day, they credited my account with £40 compensation, already had the £100 from switching. The £5 a month only goes on the lottery anyway

Well I took up the first direct offer not long ago and got £125 joining reward and got the money in 4 weeks

enjoy the Halifax, they really aint all that good though, ave your cash and go elsewhere....trust me, they stink!

We have 3 reward accounts ,1 joint and 2 single, between us.Have had to set up 2 direct debits on each due to recent changes.Keep enough to cover direct debits in each account.Go online each month and transfer £1000 in and £1005 out of each and get paid £15 a month for couple of minutes effort.Thats £180 a year tax free! If you had kept £100 balance in one account you get £60 a year, that equates to 60% interest.
Santander 123 current account is the best for us at the moment.Fee £2 a month but get cashback around £9 each month .Also get paid 3 % interest on balance of between £3000 and £20000,this is paid monthly.Try the online calculator to see how much you can save.

I switched in December. Get 5quid a month and a 100 for changing over. Got the 100 4 days after joining. No complaints here

Switched! thanks

£15 fee is for Ultimate Reward Current Account

I done this before . They paid the money just after the first direct debits came out. Plus they put £5 a month in to my account.

I would recommend Halifax. No other bank I have been with has given me anything. Also when I was switching to there account one of my direct debits took the account over drawn. I got a letter saying ' not to worry ' and that I wouldn't be charged.

Seriously I can not sing Halifax's praises high enough. I have had accounts with Barclays - HSBC - Santander .

Halifax is the one.

I bank with Natwest and love the simplicity of their iphone banking app - it's dead simple to use and very quick.
Does Halifax have a banking app for smart phones and is it any good?

Get it ?. The one and a little face with shades , the one ?.

£70 quidco for switching to Nationwide Flex direct account which pays you 5% interest...could be a better option for some.

Quite fluid and well presented I think. Uses the same model as Lloyds TSB.

was with first direct for ges and switched 8 years ago to santander and cant get the bonus to go back with them as i have been an existing customer. this and the nationwide is defo interesting!!

They definitely have an android app, and it looks like they have an iphone one too. Android one is pretty good, can check balances, see transactions, make payments and transfers. Covers their reward credit card too (another £5/month reward).

NB You can get this £100 if you've been a Halifax customer before, as long as it was > 6 months ago. Switching to FirstDirect only pays once (though they do pay you to leave again).

Halifax has one of the worst raps for customer service. Their current accounts are very costly and you will probably pay pack that £100 back to them in fees.....!

Just to clarify i did this, and you DO NOT HAVE TO GO FOR A CURRENT ACCOUNT WITH A MONTHLY FEE.

The £100 was "instantly" available, but of course wasn't able to touch it until i got my card. Which was within about 5 days.

They did everything and i didn't have to touch one bit of paper (apart from application etc ofc).

This £15 people are talking about is for the Ultimate Reward one. If you get £1000 or more paid in you get a £5 bonus so it actually works out at £10 a month. The benefits outweigh this £120 a year, believe me.

*Edit*

I switched from HSBC as they were terrible with helping me sort out my finances. Halifax gave me an instant £300 overdraft with no fees. Whenever i have had to phone them they were excellent.

If you want to take the £100 and run then i don't see anything stopping you - if that's your thing!

I have accounts with both Halifax and First Direct having taken advantage of these switching offers in the past.

I'm sure everyone has different experiences of both the banks but for me I have had no problems with either Halifax or First Direct. First Directs telephone customer services is very good as you get straight through to a rep without selecting half a dozen different options first. Halifax has a great online banking platform after launching a new platform recently and I cant fault their products and their £5 reward on Current accounts and Clarity card. The Clarity card is also great for overseas spending.

Make get shot down here (and no I don't work for a bank) but I think the bank bashing is a bit overdone now. Room for improvement yes but much better than 5 years ago. And would much rather go with Halifax and First Direct then the other big banks, atleast they are trying to do things a bit different and be more customer focussed.

I have switched over my bank account from barclays to halifax. It has no fee at all for the reward current account plus they have paid £100 to my new bank account instantly. They will also give me £5 per month for a year if I bank in minimum £750 a month. The branch staff is very efficiency and professional for setting up my account.

ok read up and check it out thats the best before diving in

im a halifax customer and was tempted to switch to first direct for there £150 reward for switching, and leaving after 6 months if your not happy you get another £100 but the possability of loosing my overdraft is not worth it

Nothing! I joined First Direct last year and got the £100. Two months later I joined Halifax and got the £100. Account was just rubbish though (compared to First Direct) - they would not let me transfer money over the phone, online or at the bank for my first week of having the account open as they had the wrong telephone number for me, so I closed the account a few days after having it opened. £100 was already in there so I withdrew it when the account was closed.

I also then phoned Halifax to complain how rubbish the account was and they gave me another £60.
