This is not a new sea
or maybe not even a deal as such. I've had this card for a while and used to pay in local currency or withdraw cash when abroad. There are no atm withdrawal or currency exchange fees so you get near enough the best exchange rate. You only have to pay interest on amounts withdrawn and if you pay in full every month then this is usually minimal. I thought it was worth a post given the good exchange rate for the euro. I just bought a DSLR lens from Amazon France saving £50 (including delivery charges)on Amazon UK and other UK new prices including eBay. There are potentially many similar deals if you compare prices on Amazon France, Amazon Germany etc

Plus £5 a month bonus if you have a Halifax current account and spend £300 on it. With the £5 i receive from my current account which i pay my wages into I am bringing in £120 a year. No fees because i pay off card and don't use the overdraft. There's no benefit in switching.

Obviously missed the stupid auto correction there - "sea" should be deal!
A good card to take to Europe aswell. Saved me buying euros and then exchanging left overs back on or recent day trip to France. Even paid the tolls on it. Head up I did call my bank to let them know I was off to France as I rarely used this card and didn't want them to block it for suspicious activity.
Halifax = COLD... Poor bank that charges ridiculous rates to its customers! Also misspells mortgages without explaining things in depth. Poor at delivering customer service. Keep well away all !!!!!!!
    Freezing COOOLLLLLLDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Miss-sells the last should of read lol!

I have been a Halifax customer since sixteen and am really pleased to see what they have done so far and not disappearing from high street, very good service as well as products.

I have to say, since I had this card, whenever and wherever I go, I never have to worry about exchange rates and service charges, as long as that cash machine doesn't charge anything, I am totally safe.

To be honest, it's the best high street credit card so far,

Don't charge me " ridiculous " rates, in fact they don't charge me anything.

Never had a problem with them.
If you withdraw cash from an ATM abroad interest is added from that day. Cracking card though. I just pay the balance while I'm away to minimise the charges if I use it to withdraw cash. Using for spending in shops/restaurants etc you can just pay on receipt of your bill without interest charges. Unbeatable conversion. You'll be getting about €1.36 to £1 at the minute!

You're an idiot then. There is no better way for spending abroad. Nobody mentioned mortgages and if you are stupid enough to rack up large amounts of interest that's your own fault. Show us all a better card for spending and withdrawing abroad please.

early morning is usually when credit security checks go awol... best to try again in the morning...
Best card ever I got it a couple of years ago for holidaying in Turkey, alway gives a great exchange rate and don't pay any interest as I clear it the day it appears online.
I work and travel overseas a lot. This card has been a godsend can't rate it highly enough. Heat added
It appears that the earlier exclusiveness of this card has been relaxed. I laughed when my 24 yr old daughter applied yet she was accepted despite not having much of a good credit record!
Had this for over a year now, free cash withdrawals are handy, heat added.

1.36 Euro To the pound......never in a million years..........1.34 Euro To the pound very unlikely.......last friday 1.31 saturday 1.31 sunday 1.31.......so you check the pound euro spot rate over these 3 days......1.34.+/- you get around 2/3 cents less than this.

I always use this card abroad. For cash withdrawals you can prepay on the card to save interest. Not allowed strictly but it works.
had this for a while, gives the best exchange rates , and no fees
Going abroad soon, this appears handy. Thank ops.
Looking on the Mastercard conversion rates it does appears pretty good for a credit card.

only reason they are still there is because we bailed them out
You can avoid any interest charges at all by putting the card into credit before you go abroad
great card. been using it for nearly 2 years. it always offers a very competitive conversion rate as well.

these are an amazing travel credit card!!
For last saturday mastercard rate showed 133.362......i withdrew 300 euros and made sure i selected "your provider will calculate conversion rate"..not "would you like this transaction to be at our pound rate".......when i checked my account online 2 hours later i had paid £224.95 for 300 euros.....a rate of 133.3 so not bad,...........on tuesday i checked my staterment and it had changed to £227.91 for 300 euros...a rate of 131.5............now on checking mastercard rates for last weekend i find them not available....sharp practice going on !

Tried to get this once. Got accepted and was asked to go in-store with my ID. The lady in-store lost the photocopies of my ID and gave me a 'scrap' bit of paper with some notes she had written down for me. Turns out that on the back it had a load of someone else's personal details. I never got my lost photocopies even after complaining. Thank God I'm not with them. Beware!
personally wouldn't use Halifax for anything but this is a good card, if you want to take cash out of ATMs. We don't so for us the Post Office Credit card is just as good as they also don't load on the FX conversion. Post office card is also on quidco and top cash with sometimes up to £50 cash back.

    Good article here

Capital One have a similar card.
like most ... use card when abroad ... can't beat it for exchange rates ....
There is also the Aqua credit card - that has 0% on foreign purchases, but also pays cashback on all purchases (only 0.5% - but a nice little extra).

Had this card for ages. Great for spending abroad!
I have this teamed with nationwide flex plus account. Its £10 a month but works well if going abroad a lot. Clarity for purchases and Flex Plus for with drawing money :).

Lol at misspelling mis-sell with misspell :-)

Have to say like a few others I have found Halifax fine. My Clarity card is ace other than needing to call them before going away (though last time I did they said they were adding that function to the website in future). My mortgage with them was able to accept a complex situation and gave a very good rate. My reward bank account with them has replaced 2 phones and taken my girlfriend's car home when it broke down with me in it. The only bad thing I have had is that the Home Emergency Cover was worse than useless. They took till 36hrs after reported burst pipe to send their plumber out. The plumber then said because the burst pipe was behind tiles it would need to refer to a claim handler. A couple more days waiting going no where I couldn't do without water any longer so just called a plumber and they didn't pay anything out towards the cost.
Mastercard rate of exchange site today is showing 1.3443 so this is what the Halifax clarity card will get.today,

Grow up. The poster said about 1.36 which is not the same as IS 1.36...1.344368 is the latest mastercard exchange rate which about 1.36. It's a GOOD indicative figure of the current exchange rate.
