Halo 2 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie Studios. the game is the second video game title in the Halo franchise and the sequel to 2001's critically-acclaimed Halo: Combat Evolved. A Windows Vista version of the game was released on May 31, 2007 developed by an internal team at Microsoft Game Studios referred to as "Hired Gun". The game features a new game engine, as well as using the Havok physics engine; added weapons and vehicles, and new multiplayer maps. The player alternatively assumes the roles of the human Master Chief and the alien Arbiter in a 26th century conflict between the human UNSC and genocidal Covenant. Players fight enemies on foot, or with a collection of alien and human vehicles.

Even if you don't care for this game £3 for 1 month of Gold is a good deal, found it on the clearance section of my Tesco, didn't see many others though.

Great price if u can find it instore

CeX stores buy for cash: £2.00
CeX Stores give exchange value: £3.00

So money straight back.

its not xbox live gold its windows live gold, game released at a time when microsoft charged pc users for online gaming, they have now removed the yearly charge so the voucher is useless, just got this game after a £5 deal on here a few weeks ago, i knew the graphics wouldnt be great but worse than i thought.

Original Poster

don't be stupid the voucher works fine, Games For Windows Live and Xbox Live are basically the same thing.

Games for Windows Live is not free, WTF are you on about? You use the exact same gamertag system as on 360. If it's free on PC, then why are they giving you a voucher for it eh?

yes it is!!! really before you start swearing at other posters i would request you check you yourself are not wrong 1st.

it is free now but it didnt use to be.

pc gamers who were used to getting the live type service for free complained so MS drpped it - there are lots of rivals.

on the 360 its a closed system, and is currently far superior to the free offerings from nintendo and Sony so they can get away with it.

i keep hoping Sony will catch up and maybe force MS's hand on reducing the xbox lvie costs, but it hasnt happend yet.

live for windows initially was not free hence the free one month as a token of good honour to try and get it making them money, but after a while they decided to scrap it and make it free for pc users.. and stopped making these free one month trials.. so they are rare now

Exactly. Windows Live is free, though originally was not. As far as I am aware these codes cannot be validated against your Xbox Live account either; additionally, I've bought "old" games in the past with free Live vouchers in - and they all have an expiry date anyway - which means they are essentially useless.

Hot. Great price for a classic. (Though I still prefer number 3 BEFORE they decided to change everything )

My mistake then, which I'm quite happy to apologise for! I only installed Games For Windows last week for the first time and since all the usual options for redeeming codes and the like are there, I thought it was still all paid for.

Apology accepted

the code probably failed because all Windows Live accounts are automatically Gold permanently - can't add an extra month to something that is limitless already

Still a good price for the game, and unlike the xbox version, this DOES include achievements (one of the rare cases where a PC version does have achievements, but the Xbox one doesn't - reason this case is because it is an original xbox game, and none of those had achievements, but the updated PC version does).

EDIT - seems like this offer is instore only - online shows Halo 2 (Vista Exclusive) £29.47.
While I would like to go driving to my nearest stores and check stock, with weather like this I may just have to let this deal pass

Sony is currently in the process of setting up premium subscriptions to PSN. All current features will remain free and new content is yet to be decided, so is price but some of the features look pretty good. (I completed a survey on possible pricing/packages, some prices were ridiculous but others not bad)

I used a 1 month code from the PC version of Gears of War on my 360 and that definitely worked.

GFW was a premium service and the codes from it, provided they haven't expired, should work on 360 as the service (Xbox Live) is the same across both platforms...

You do need quite a good computer to run this though, not a great port.

Im currently playign through this at the moment and must say it hasn'taged too well and has a few minor niggles that are getting to me.

Mouse and Keyboard set up for FPS is definitely my prefered method to play but it feel wierd and broken for me in this, so I am using my 360 controller, which seems to have issues with me strafe/turning and when I click the thumbstick to zoom it occasionally opens the pause menu..... pad works fine in everything else

I think it is a lazy port and a cash in for Miccy Soft...

but when it is working right its still fun to play, not aged too well graphically but as always gameplay is key and the shooty side of halo has always been fun.

Box does say quite a decent spec required......... my i7 rig is running it lovely jubbly!

There is a way to get a good 800 GS on this game in around 5 mins. If you're interested in that sort of thing then there are loads of youtube vids about it.

This was my least favourite Halo game, but on the pc it came alive for me. The only Halo ive done on leg difficulty on my own.

Can the 30 day Xbox live be added to a current Xbox live gamer tag, or is it one of those type of trials where you have to make a new username?

Hi mate,

Just add to exsisting 360 account.

got for a stocking filler to go with my sons HTPC

You can run it in XP but the minimum specs on the box are a lie. It didnt run very well on my E8200 with 8800GT.

My nearest Tesco only have the Top50 chart for PC games and, as such , Halo2 isn't in that list :-(

Looked in the PC section and the games clearance section, but didn't find it

Despite being a decent sized Tesco, the PC games section is the predictably useless selection of Top 10, Sims games, and ancient Win 95/98 games for a quid.

I couldn't find it in 3 tescos. Cold.

When this game came out there was a big stink up as it wasn't compatible with XP as MS were trying to force users to upgrade to Vista as it needs directx 10 which wouldn't install on XP. It may have changed since then though I havn't used XP in years so..

Nobodys moaned @ ActiBlizzzard for charging £9 a month for WOW so I dont really see the difference..... people make the 'live' service seem expensive..

BTW, I saw a copy of this in Tesco Extra Warrington last saturday, £3.
