Harman Kardon HKTS 5 speaker system (refurb) £179.99 delivered @ Harman Kardon Outlet

This is more of a heads up that Harman Kardon have their own outlet store. The products listed are shown as refurbs but the speakers I bought from them last year were brand new. With Christmas on the way, someone might find the link useful.

With regards to the HKTS 5's this is 5.1 surround sound speaker system. Average reviews, but probably worth the reduced price.

Got these new at this price exactly 5 years ago (geez how time flies) from an eBay reseller and been very pleased.
Had to have "silver" colour then whereas would probably have preferred "black" which OP's link goes to.
Found the centre speaker is JUST low profile enough to be out of eye line at lower centre of TV screen.
Do read the specs - the subwoofer is rather a large unit.

Bonus: From a quick look seems HK offer a 30 days paid returns if you're not satisfied too !

Are these better than the Boston Acoustics XS 5.1 SE

Id rather get the Tannoy SFX 5.1, read the reviews everyone raves about them. Also, they can be picked up at richer sounds for only £150 for vip members!

Thanks ridgers84. To be honest, I tried out the Boston XS 5.1 and they really aren't all that. They are ideal only for a very small room and can't handle too much bass.

I will keep an eye out for the Tannoys, thanks

I have the tannoys set up in a 16ft x 13ft room and they sound terrific! The sub is sensitive to where it is placed however

Thanks ridgers. Should I go for 2nd hand off ebay or brand-new? Ebay I can pick em up for around a £100.

I've got the Tannoy TFX speakers. Much better than the SFX. Very sleek and stylish which is a bonus on top of the great sound they produce and they are very heavy speakers too for their size. I have them coupled with Tannoy Mercury V4 floorstanding and VC centre for a 7.1 set up.

Shop around for a decent price but they have dropped from when I bought them

I'd avoid the Boston acoustics. I had them for about 3 months before the sub packed up.

Thanks bobinio - I totally agree because after reading the raving reviews, I bought the bostons, only to find that the sub couldn't even handle decent bass if the volume was cranked up...just don't wanna make the same mistake.

BTW, have you guys seen the SSL100 & Tannoy SFX SUB package for £119 at richer sounds? Would that be a good deal??? :-

i'd got for soundbar

I still use the 3 of these speakers but the sub and two fronts gave up on me. To be fair that was after 4 years of use, overall pleased for the price I paid.

Not many of u lot woulf know of this but BMW AND PORCHE use these ! They r worth the money

I got the tannoy tfx from rcihersounds, within a year 2 of the speakers blew, richer sounds sent them away to be repaired and said that tannoy wouldn't send them back unless I paid £57. So for me richer sounds customer service isn't as good as people say. I ended up going old school and getting 2 yamaha ns300's and 2 ns200's second hand for £150.

I think you are really paying for the sub with the tannoy's they seem to be the best bit of the system.

Porsche use Bose more often than not.

Just because an automotive company uses a speaker manufacturer, doesn't make them good. The Bose systems in the 911s are terrible. Completely bass heavy (even if you turn the bass way down) and no treble. The Dynaudio systems in Volkswagens sound miles better.
