Note: Amazon have now dropped their pre-order price to match.

For those who are not aware, a new edition of Harry Potter books are coming out, fully illustrated by award winning artist Jim Kay. This is the first book in the series - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Released on 10th June 2015, so just over 2 weeks time.

Amazon currently have this listed at the standard RRP of £30, but if you pre-order direct from Bloomsbury, you save 10% @ £27.00 delivered (as delivery is free on orders over £25).

The illustration looks great and if you are in to Harry Potter and have not got a collectable copy of the books yet, then getting these 1st editions could be the way to go.

Not sure what will happen with the price once this has been out for a while. 1st editions can go either way, depending on how big the run is, popularity etc.

Either way, looks like a great edition of a great story.

Not really expecting this deal to get hot, as often people will compare apples with pears and say you can pick the old books up for a couple of quid. My main hope it that this saves a few people a few quid off the RRP being offered at Amazon and most other retailers at the moment.

Blurb from Bloomsbury:

Prepare to be spellbound by Jim Kay's dazzling depiction of the wizarding world and much loved characters in this full-colour illustrated hardback edition of the nation's favourite children's book – Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Brimming with rich detail and humour that perfectly complements J.K. Rowling's timeless classic, Jim Kay's glorious illustrations will captivate fans and new readers alike.

When a letter arrives for unhappy but ordinary Harry Potter, a decade-old secret is revealed to him that apparently he's the last to know. His parents were wizards, killed by a Dark Lord's curse when Harry was just a baby, and which he somehow survived. Leaving his unsympathetic aunt and uncle for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry stumbles upon a sinister mystery when he finds a three-headed dog guarding a room on the third floor. Then he hears of a missing stone with astonishing powers, which could be valuable, dangerous – or both. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

There are more examples all over the web, this should give you a general idea of the quality of the artwork. Personally, I think it looks great.

Yep, getting voted cold despite this being the cheapest place to buy from a reputable seller.

By the way, anyone finding this cheaper on places like FishPond.co.uk - be warned, please take a look at site reviews for that before you hand over any money! Scam-tastic!

Lovely illustrations but talk about trying to squeeze more money out of the franchise. this book originally came out in 1997. That's an 18 year old book (that you could probably get free) with new pictures and a big new price.

Good price vs RRP

True (apart from the free bit), though I am a massive Harry Potter fan and I only own one of the (physical) books so far and that was the one that was in the loft of the house I bought! So I'll be getting these.

This is the first illustrated edition though, so at least it's not just the exact same books with a new cover. The artwork is all new and would have taken Jim Kay a long time to do and in my personal opinion, is a really nice addition.
