Yep, upgrade to the N270

I wouldn't touch any notebooks with an ATOM processor!

Would u be able to use skype or yahoo messeger on this?

pKaTz

You probably could, but from my experiences with notebooks with ATOM processors are awfuly slugish. I have a HP Pavilion AMD Athlon 64 which runs ANYTHING

I use an ATOM N455 based netbook (very similar to N450) to live transcode sky tv to my XBMC setup in another country! works nicely... the N270's were ****... but newer atoms are better...

Although i wouldn't go for this, even though its a great deal go for something with Nvidia ION support if you really wanna rock the boat

skype/msn/web will work fine on this though.

might order as a 2nd netbook for work or whatever... windows 7 is good right?

apparently this version of windows 7 isnt great but i saw a post where a guy said his netbook ran android and ubuntu fine

It probably comes with W7 Starter, which isn't great. But if you can upgrade to a full version it's OK. You could also run Windows XP, which will be faster.

I have an Acer Aspire one netbook with the N270 and I have to make sure flashblock is enabled in Firefox cos flash slows browsing and scrolling right down.

Also lately, Skype always tells me my netbook is too slow to do video calling, but I can remember it used to be ok on earlier versions of skype!

Netbooks are a complete waste of money, crappy systems that run as if … Netbooks are a complete waste of money, crappy systems that run as if they were made 10 years+. Ago.

What what you suggest to use for word processing, emails and internet browsing thats just as portable as a netbook for under £200 then?

azza87

Netbooks are a complete waste of money blah, blah, blah....

Very constructive.

If someone needs a very light, small laptop for travel, what else do you suggest they use?

Saying they're a waste of money is like saying sandwiches are a waste of money on the grounds that you could have a 3 course roast dinner instead.

Well of course the pavilion is faster - DOHHH - it is a full blown laptop. This is a netbook and perfect for what it is designed to do in the same way as they all are

I am a computer engineer of 20 years and I use an acer aspire one 90% of the time, fine for most things including non gfx intense games and dvd burning

just re-read my msg I was meaning to say its not good for gfx intense games and buring obviously as it dosent have a burner

Do we really need a deal posting for everything on the tjhughes website … Do we really need a deal posting for everything on the tjhughes website just because there is a 20% off code around? The code has already been posted on here, let people pick what they want to buy on their site with the code without being force fed these 'deal' posts every other minute.

So everyone looking for a netbook is going to look at tjhughes & know about the code?
Personally I think it's a good deal that deserves rep - voted HOT

looking for cheap netbook, is this good or can anyone recomend others that are around the same price? thanks for any help

Is there WIFI, Graphics? and any other things not mentioned?
how many usb slots?
who knows full specifications?

cheers, awesome

Tempted but other deals like this people tend to be put off 3 cell batteries

I think 3 cell battery for 10.1 screen will do the job just fine.

I don't have a problem with the ability to do the job, it's the length of time it will do it for

you certainly get some odd people grumbling about netbooks they've never owned! - I've had a netbook for couple of years and find it very useful, the solid state hard drive means I can be quite rough without fear of killing the drive! (not all netbooks have these so don't shake your own without checking first!)

Yes they're slow CPU's compared to full blown laptops/desktops but they're small, cheap and do have their place for many people.

It's like voting cold for a pack of Jaffa Cakes because they're not Black forest gateau

Duh, what the hell comment is that!! - I was merely stating an obvious problem with 3 cell batteries i.e the time you can use them for compared to a 6 cell so this needs to be taken into the equation when comparing like for like netbooks, I didn't make judgement on anything you've mentioned - oh, and I didn't vote cold. Get a grip!!

The number of cells tells you nothing, it's the AH rating and the power consumption that matters

I'm well aware of A/h ratings but obviously the power consumption is specifically for the netbook in question. That leaves us with the A/h rating, For arguments sake we'll say a 3 cell is 4 A/h and the netbook (in question) draws 1A so it would last 4 hours ( approx) agreed?
Right, without needing a degree in maths, a 6 cell from the same manufacturer is going to last ( approx ) twice as long.
I think I'll switch off my email updates now cos this could become even more boring than it has.oO

Does anyone know what connections it has? I can't find it anywhere. Cheers.

Edit: Just found it, nop hdmi then :P.

Which assumes they are using the same cells, too many assumptions

I use a netbook supplied with XP and it runs OK. Not as fast as my laptop with i3 Core and 4GB RAM but fast enough and it's so portable. I now run a very interesting 'cloud' Linux called JoliCloud (Google it) and that runs very fast. For well under £200 these netbooks represent great value for money - mine has WiFi, Bluetooth, 3 USB's, SD slot and a very usable keyboard.
