I think it is brewed by Shepherd Neame rather than Marstons.

Shepherd Neame recently lost the Lidl business to Marstons their brews are in the shorter bottles Marstons taller ones ...head brewers name is on the labels

The purple panther was the best of the range, the rest were a bit iffy

Bad enough a big brewery pretending to be some small craft ale company, even worse when it's 2 different ones.

Yeah I always quite liked that one. Not a brilliant porter, but a porter at least, and quite drinkable.

If there is pretending to be done it's Lidl with their own label. I think it's admirable that this range is produced in the UK by brewers with hundreds of years experience. Would you rather it was made in a French chemical plant or under a silly name in a rented unit by a couple of hipsters ?

I assume you're making that sweeping generalisation about foreign produced beers and microbreweries either out of ignorance or just because you want to start an argument about it. Either way, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion so lets just leave it like that.
Shepherd Neame and Marstons make loads of "craft" and own label beers for supermarkets . Both produce fairly awful brews (but cheap) especially SN which are garbage . Add to the list the totally appalling Greene King and Black Sheep masquerading as craft brewers .
It's buyer beware with craft ales.
Like the Purple Panther one and will try to get this one
That purple Panther is excellent for the price. I hope it hasn't been compromised by the change in brewery.
just had a couple of bottles - bit sweet very vanilla flavoured but ok

My local Lidl haven't had stock yet of the Marstons Panther they are still on the shorter bottle SN spec but I enjoyed it when Marstons previously did the brewing (pre 2017 I think). One bit of good news is they've reduced the price of Gecko, Goose, Panther and Rooster from £1.19 to £1.09 - won't please the "craft" brand snobs though
